How does this compare with say, Blood Sugar Sex Magik or Californication, which are already on my phone?

    • +4

It got some nice catchy grooves.

Flea is certainly rocking it on the bass!

      Very mellow

    • +5

      This one's free, legally.

I really enjoyed it on the first listen through. I'm an old school Blood Sugar Sex Magik fan and I think it holds up to their sound and feel on that and other albums. Definitely worth a listen.

    • Def not a classic RHCP.

      • Too much detail

    • Lyrics are needlessly complex and weird (even for RHCP), not many melodies you can sing to, and only a couple songs I think you’d ever want to hear live.

But definitely worth a listen for free. I don’t think they’ll ever make anything as good as BSSM but I’m pleased they’re still making music and trying new things.

  • +1

It’s quite good, only a couple of listens so far but I’d be happy to give it four stars. Classic RHCP.

Did you listen to the album? It's pretty far from stadium rock.

    • +4

This guy's☝️so cool he listens to bands that don't even exist yet.

  • +4

Thanks OP! It's a fun album. With John Fruciante back, and Rick Rubin also back on deck with production, it feels to me like a sequel to Stadium Arcadium (sonics-wise). I wasn't blown away but I enjoyed hearing that kind of sound again in 2022. Especially John Fruciante's Hendrix-like guitar riffs and that screaming Boss DS-2 style distorted sound in solos.

At least they're not forcing it onto people's devices like U2..

    • +1

I still haven't figured out how to delete that one.

  • +2

    Can't disagree with that price.

  • +2

The album is more like a U shape. It starts with a bang, then getting worse from there before it picks up again towards the end.

    • Most accurate review yet!

Give it away, give it away, give it away now

I got the cassette instead because I figure it'll really take me back in time.

Any way to choose the DL format, or is everybody else just getting in MP3 format?

Also, found our mate @dealbot https://www.mydealz.de/profile/deal_bot/overview

EDIT: Don't like the fact that Dilbert was so easy to find? Then don't use the same usernames across platforms!

  • How do you download after checkout?

    • Separate email you’ll get a few mins after checkout.

      • hmm weird still didnt get it, got the order email though

  • Legend, thank you for posting this !

  • +5

I'll just stream this on Spotify instead; it's how I mainly listen to my music and they'll get paid this way!

    • My thoughts!

    • +2

      they'll get paid this way!

Spotify pays rights-holders between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream on average.

So if you play the whole album they may only get 5 cents?

      • +2

So if a million people do that, it's $50K. Not bad to keep supporting a band.

        • +2

A million people is a lot. So far this deal has had 1652 clicks. If we count every click as downloading and listening to the entire album without skipping through so far they've lost $82.

That's less than 7 Spotify premium subscriptions.

Am I alone in thinking that Spotify should be maybe paying the artists a little more?

          • +1

@decc0: Is it true? Are they really getting screwed this badly?

            • +1

@Lps: In a way, they can be getting screwed over worse. Spotify pays artists a rate based on whether you are a free or premium listener and also based on where you are listening from. All the cheap family subscriptions popular here will lead to the artists getting paid less.

              From their website:

Spotify pays royalties for all of the listening that occurs on our service by distributing nearly 70% of all the revenues that we receive back to rights holders. By ‘rights holders,’ we are referring to the owners of the music that is on Spotify: labels, publishers, distributors, and, through certain digital distributors, independent artists themselves.

              Not to mention

Spotify pays royalties based on the artist's "market share"—the number of streams for their songs as a proportion of total songs streamed on the service

So yeah they are definitely getting screwed over. Their record label manager etc is getting that "nearly 70%" and passing on however much was in the contract they signed between artist and record label. The rest they are keeping for their own profits.

Also worth noting that Spotify has a 'feature' introduced late 2020 to have even lower royalty rates for a "algorithm visibility boost". I'm sure you can see the problems with this one.

  • Wow super easy process.

  • Sounds like the Red Hot Irish Peppers.
Listening right now on YouTube music.

  • It's on spotify, in case anyone is lazy like me. Listening now.
