Scuff Plates Necessary for New Car?

Just got a new Nissan Navara ST-X in January. Are door scuff plates necessary these days? Genuine silver about $189.

  • Yeah bro

I don’t think they really save you from any damage unless a very specifically sized vehicle opens their door next to you and they look ugly.

    But each to their own.

    • +5

I think they're referring to the ones that go inside the door jamb to protect it from shoes while getting in and out. I think they're worth it if they actually cover the area well. Most OEM ones are tiny and won't actually do much IMO. I usually get the area covered with PPF instead.

      • Ah, my mistake.

In that case, a good investment if you like looking after your car’s interior as thats a controllable variable unlike the outside haha

    Aliexpress Nissan Navara scuff plates

For some as little as $7 + GST. This is essentially only something you can see, so does it really matter if they're not genuine?

      • +6

Where do you think Nissan gets their scuff plates made?

        • lol its a plate you're bound to scratch

its up to you if you want to damage one thats $16 vs $189…

i personally think these things arent even a question

i inherited a 4x4 work ute from my dad and it took me a day to fix up all the scratches on the door handle surrounds and door scuff panels and tray areas

then i bought a whole bunch of protectors off ebay so I wouldnt have to do that bullshit again

so if you have a $50k+ asset perhaps protect it even a little bit, i dunno its your money

      • +1

I wouldn't buy anything off there

        Why?

      • I wouldn't buy anything off there

        Why not

        • cheap Chinese crap that takes months to come

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: ok bro thanks for the review

            • @tonyjzx: no worries, its good if you wanna buy something for 5 bucks that cost 50c to make and wait 2-3 months, go for it bro

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Fine, pay $189 for something that costs 50c and get it in a day/week…

Unless Nissan is out of stock locally, and then you'll be waiting months anyway like the rest of the vehicle supply chain delays…

          • +1

            @[Deactivated]:

cheap Chinese crap that takes months to come

where do you reckon the Nissan ones are made? Japan? Taiwan?

Agreed. Delivery is a bit slow at the moment. 6-8 weeks

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Oh boy, do I have a surprise for you. Most things you buy at shops down the street are made from the same factories.

            • -2

@Ryanek: no kidding, I would rather pay extra and support the local and have it same day or in a few days, then 100% of your money go to some Chinese company and wait 8 weeks for it lol
but then I am not a tight arse

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Do you realise, local business is just buying it from Alibaba/China at bulk and just charging you more?

                • -4

@Ryanek: do you realise the earth is flat

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah i'm done. You're not a very nice person and all your down votes kinda support that. Cheers.

                    • -3

@Ryanek: no your not you cant help yourself, learn to zip it

              • @[Deactivated]:

but then I am not a tight arse

Well then wtf are you doing here? Your post history is just shit stirring and anti-vax rants?

What a joy to have you here, I look forward to seeing how you contribute next!

      • I just bought a foam cannon of aliexpress. Cost me $20 including postage and works brilliantly. Heaps better than paying $100 for the same thing.

Worst case if it breaks early, I have the adapter for my pressure washer which they charge $15 for.

        Same stuff with no labelling.

    • so does it really matter if they're not genuine?

Might void vehicle warranty, negatively affect overall weight and increase fuel consumption too.
      Might …

  • +1

For most people i'd say no. If you were a tradie wearing dirty boots or someone who gets in and our all day (eg. delivery driver) then i'd say you've got nothing to loose.

    • Yeah good point.

    • +1

      you've got nothing to loose

I can think of 189 things you can lose

      • Lol fair point but others pointed out there are much cheaper options

  • +2

Oh, 100% mandatory. I think there is something in the ADR’s that mandate that all new car buyers must buy and install *puts on glasses* “scuff plates”.

    • +3

You need new glasses, it’s not an adr thing. It’s a consumer law thing for maintaining your warranty…

      • you're missing this >>> /s

        • +2

I thought I was being absurd enough that it was implied.

  • -1

These are what I was looking at, not concerned so much about the cost can claim gst back and tax deduct them, have spent $3,500 on accessories so far.

    • +4

      Dealer will love you.

You do realise that ‘claim on tax doesn’t make t cost nothing?

        • +4

Nice attitude. There’s plenty of people out there who think ‘tax deductible’ means it doesn’t cost anything.

You asked about genuine accessories, it’s a reasonable assumption you are adding that as part of the purchase price when ordering a new vehicle (missed that you already got it in January)

If $189 doesn’t matter why are you bothering to ask? Just buy the damn things if you want them. What does it matter what we think? If you really want to know what I think, it’s a complete rort if you can claim scuff plates as a tax deduction on a work vehicle, they aren’t necessary unlike some other accessories.

          • -8

@Euphemistic: Nah you were being a SA,I never said I bought genuine accessories.
Anyone that spends $60k on work vehicle I am pretty sure they know what a tax deduction means. Guess you don't like it's a instant write off either lol.

Was more interested in if people still use them and if necessary, more so on this type of vehicle, my last 5 cars were SUV's.
So nah I don't give a toss what you think.

            • @[Deactivated]: Well you felt the need to reply again, apparently you do give a toss.

Going from above it’s probably half and half buy them vs don’t bother. Make up your own mind because our opinions don’t matter. (I’d never buy them, waste of money)

        • this is my business vehicle turns me over 500k a year, another $189 ain't going to matter lol

So you've already wasted more time asking in here than taking the vehicle out…
You're vehicle makes $57 an hour, every hour of the year.
Less GST and tax deduction you could have just told your car to go for a drive for 2 hours and called it even.

          • -7

            @SBOB: Zip it

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: You can if you want…I'd probably use alternate payment options than zip for a business purchase.

        • +3

You came to a deals forum to ask about paying full price for a product that has a massive margin on it. What kind of responses did you think you were going to get?

I'd try a car forum next time.

          • -3

@freefall101: It’s not full price they are more from a dealer lol

            Nothing to ad zip it

I am in the automotive section DS

  • Got some for the Rav last year, looks pretty good and saves the plastic from getting scuffed. Aliexpress FTW.

    • How long to come?

      • Maybe 3 weeks from memory. I ordered them prior to getting the car so they were ready to go when the car arrived.

      • +1

        I wouldn't buy anything off there…..

        • Would have to be free

  • Found these not much more than your favourite alieshitexpress lol
Better than sending you money to China

    • +2

Better than sending you money to China

Or just buy from China, and then send that company 50 bucks as a donation.

Where the f do you think those scuff plates are made?

      • Russia

        • +1

Cause you're such a nice guy, and a valuable member of this community

Saved you $10,or about 9 mins worth of your vehicle's yearly earnings

          https://www.orientalauto.com.au/collections/navara-np300/pro…

          • @SBOB: Well thanks, I started this to find out if people still use them and if worth bothering.
Maybe I shouldn’t of put the price of the genuine ones in the first post.

            • @[Deactivated]: People still use them. Mostly the sort of people that throw extra cash at their vehicles to ‘customise it’ but don’t actually do anything more than a few cosmetics. Not so much the people who spend their $ a bit more carefully and customise in more functional ways.

Yeah, you really shouldn’t have mentioned the price or buying genuine.

              • @Euphemistic: Well at the time genuine was all I could find in Australia available now, they were a eBay seller but not a dealer which could be sus anyway.
A lot of drama over some door scuffs lol.

I just had a HSP lid installed for $2,900, that will spin some people out haha.
Worth every cent though, it’s so good.

                https://hsputelids.com/product/hsp-premiumlid-nissan-np300my…

                • @[Deactivated]: Plenty of ute owners want a hard, lockable lid. It’s a functional accessory. Not me, I’d have to take it off too often to cart tall loads. A rolltop would be good, but can’t justify it for the number of times I truly need a lockable tub.

                  • @Euphemistic: You can take it off in 1 minute, that’s how they advertise it. 2 man job but it’s easy.
Mine came with a pvc tonneau cover nothing but a pain in the arse for my uses.
I looked at those roll back ones, didn’t like the look, no insulation, seem to fade over the years and can have issues, also where they roll up takes up room.
But yeah you have what suits your needs.
