Best bidet for your ... buck

I've overcome my inexplicable distaste/discomfort (I can't quite put my finger on the right word) about a bidet and I'm going to put one on the second dunny. But which is the right rectal rinser for me?
I'm just about decided on something simple but auto like the Flowish (only flow-ish??) at $55, although the Butt Buddy is much better named but is $97.
I looked at the shattaf (bum gun). They are cheaper, but require a little too much personal involvement for my liking.
I don't want to go Japanese starship command throne either (although I have tried one and this got me turned on to the whole bidet idea).
Any users willing to out themselves as, well, bidet users, what's your advice?
Easy to clean is the top priority. Does the nozzle get crapped on in explosive expulsions? And if so what do you do?
I'm psyched up for the cold winter blast, but don't want to cope with a soggy arse. Is accuracy an issue?
It's mostly just for me (yes, I know, my own toilet), so a single spray should do but most seem to come with two. Does it matter?
Thanks, and I look forward to the comments. Yes, all the comments. Probably most. Some? I hope.

Dont own one but some family members have the Japanese anus annihilator machine and… its pretty damn good.
Cleans itself, deadly accurate, water heats up so you don’t get an icicle to the anos in winter, warms the seat up etc etc. they ain’t cheap but there is no comparison imo.

If your wanting to go down that back road, put a few extra dollery doos in and get a decent machine that will be less maintenance and do a good job.

I wouldn’t be holding out hope that a $50-100 bidet is gonna do the best/most reliable job.

  • You get what you pay for your … buck

    • Are you supposed to face the wall while using? And way too much plumbing.

    • Imagine installing this on the other side of the loo

  • Just shower after each poop.

    Bum gun all the way.

  • After going to Japan I bought one.

    • Which one? Japanese style with warm water, air dry and all the bells and whistles?
I gave them a go there as well but would like to try something cheaper.

      • but would like to try something cheaper.

        Why?

I'm leaning towards one from Bummings, ah I mean Bunnings. I keep reading on here that the xiaomi one's don't last. At least from Bunnings should be an easy return.

    • Should have thought of Bunnings. The $400 one looks flash. But their aged care model at aged care prices one looks ok at $40 del

  • The xiaomi ones used to get posted as a deal on here all the time, I wonder why they stopped?

    • It was a bum deal?

Personally, I like a bit of pressure to ensure all holiday 'caked on contributions' are dispensed. However, my better half likes a more gentle approach.

Subsequently I have had to opt to use the Karcher outside. Takes a bit of getting used to, and the odd bloated haemorrhoid.

I put in a couple of these when the great toilet paper drought was on and they have been life changing.

My family have gone from their initial reaction of bewilderment and questioning my mental state when I first got them to complete converts.

The main problem is I now feel unclean whenever I have to use a facility that doesn't have one

Was easy to install but had to buy an adapter from Bunnings

Expect comments about legalities, licensed plumbers, potential of poisoning the war supply if 37 different scenarios occur at the same time etc etc

    • Thanks. This has come up on research. What fitting did you need if you recall?
Now to find an $11 buy for free shipping I think

Can't remember exactly but the problem was that the T piece connector it comes with is the wrong size to connect to the plumbing (I think it it is an American standard size) so just took all the bits into Bunnings and rummaged though their plumbing fittings to find something that fitted both ends. Cost less than $10 I think

    • I was looking at the luxe one as it had great reviews but ended up getting this one cheaper on aliex and it comes with correct attachments for Australia and can choose left or right side depending on your tap location. It's great.

  • Thanks. Went cheap with Bunnings, $25.44. To quote; "Suitable for assisted living and aged care". Makes me think of kerosene baths and fire hose showers. Might upgrade down the (barely discernible) track.

      cold water feed only

      brisk

    • How is it going after a few months of usage?

      • Hi. Thanks for asking. :)

Install was simple but needed extra part. Cold hasn't been a problem over winter.

I use it every time. It took a little while to develop a technique. Paper use has at least halved, at an estimate. And my date has never felt cleaner. Money well spent.

This video shows the questions you need to be asking before buying a bidet…

    • Thanks for that. Peak moments are the rollaway bidet and those doctors having their gag reflex removed.

This is the one I got…

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/392093287810?hash=item5b4a94c582…

I don't understand how people don't use a bidet… If i got poop on my hands, i wouldn't be satisfied by just wiping it off with a serviette… i'd want water at the very least! why wouldn't it be that way with any other part of your body?

Anyway… don't forget to buy a backflow prevention connector. These stop any nasties flowing back into your main water supply from the bidet, though some say this isn't required on seat attachments as they don't have internal pumps which cause more pressure than the water supply to force water back into the pipes but for $15 it's probably cheap ensurance.

    • Backflow blocker is good advice. Ta

    • How did you find the plastic inlet? That's hindered me from these ones. I have a samodra attachment one with metal connection but would prefer a whole seat as it can get moved out of line.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08TRL4JJR/

      • Plastic inlet was fine and hasn't been a problem even when moving the seat to a new property when we bought. Always use plumbing tape though regardless of whethere its plastic or metal inlet.

    Garden hose $12 at Bunnings

  • Bunnings had one for $99, however its no longer on their site. It maybe this one

PRISTINE RESULTS!!! - I've had one for a couple of years now. Took a while to get used to it & settle on the best technique, but now its just part of the routine.. and it is brilliant! I elected for one that was integrated into a seat and so the installation was exceedingly simple, the alignment was spot on (although it is adjustable), the controls are unobtrusive, the moving parts are enclosed (& protected) and the soft close seat is way better than the standard one I replaced.

This is the model I chose: https://bidetry.com.au/shop/bidet-toilet-seat/bidetry-ex/

    A few other observations comments.
    1) Expect only slight saving on toilet paper.
    2) Cold water absolutely no issue - in fact its probably a cleaner, fresher feel.
    3) I'll never give it up. If it fails down the track I'll immediately get another one.

    • Ta. I've gone for the most basic version of same. I agree with 1, from my brief experience there's still a little scrubbing and some drying to do.

  • +1

    I've got one.
A cheap basic one from Bunnings. I've lived in Asia for a few yrs and highly rate them.
Australian plumbers are stupid and will tell you they are illegal for redic reasons about contamination of drinking water or some such crap.
Yes it's only cold water and it's not the star ship enterprise but honestly it's all you need.
I clean it when I clean the bathroom/toilet and it's perfectly fine the world hasn't ended.
Yes you need to be careful with your aim as it can shoot water out the back of the toilet seat. I recommend getting a little tap to control the flow/pressure.

    • If you don't install a one-way valve you very much could contaminate your drinking water.. If your shit can travel through the plastic nozzle cover, into the bidet nozzle, and up the pipe which has water going in the opposite direction.. and the one-way valve built into the bidet, the hose AND the T piece is faulty.

Really the reason plumbers recommend against DIY is because nobody installs these correctly. They (profanity) up the connection, they don't attach the T section correctly at the back of the toilet. They don't use the included PET tape which prevents the connections leaking or unthreading. And then the place floods.

If you can follow these basic bitch instructions, it's no worries though.

Best bidet for your … buck

    Just use the bathroom sink…

    • +4

The bonus with this method is that if there's a bit that is stubborn to remove, people often leave those tiny little brushes in a cup by the sink.

I paid ~$40 for my one on Amazon a few years back as a test to see if I would like it. I love it and I hate using normal toilet paper now.

Mine is just a super basic one but has been running for approx. 3 years with no problem - I will likely upgrade one that has more functionality such as heat and drying functionality as some point in the future but the basic one works fine. It gets dirty some times but super easy to clean itself, has a different dial for self cleaning. Even the coldness in the winter isn't really a problem, the initial shock is a little cold but I have found that my body gets used to it within a second or 2 so haven't found the need to upgrade, I will at some point though.

  • Best…bang for your buck… A free one as they are a waste of time and money.
