Mobile Roaming Data 30GB 365-Day eSIM (AU, CA, HK, NZ, US, UK) - HK$268 (~A$45) @ 3 Hong Kong

360

Was searching for a eSIM for my Canadian Easter travels and this deal on a Canadian deal site…

10-30/35GB options available. Lots of other DIY plans available as well. Downside is it sounds that internet traffic is routed via HK so may have some quirks. (speed tests available to Canada shows it decent, I just did it in australia and I got 68.27Mbps with a 183ms ping - Vodaphone). Speaking to customer service it uses a mixture of networks in each county, but they confirmed its 4g. Some sites may not work.

Customer service has live chat, just set google/chrome to translate and they are super helpful.

You may need to do a Real Name verification (apparently a new process that takes upto 7 days) once you sign up to activate your esim.
Apparently this is just needed if you want to use the service in HK. Otherwise not needed. I had my plan up and running within 5-10min of signup.

It will be a HK number, so to use the eSIM in other countries make sure your data roaming is on.

Note if you don't do the verification, all SIMs will be cancelled at the end of Feb 2023. https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/202106/01/P2021060100607…

I spoke to customer service, and they said it only does not work in HK, but roaming outside of HK will not be affected.. but I am planning on using mine well before that.

  • for my Canadian Easter travels

its a party with Terrance and Phillip

      • +3

        Eh ?

      • actually our easter is 14 hours ahead of canada

  • It's also $268HK isn't it? Not $298?

Whats the benefit of getting this? Is it mainly for overseas roaming?

    • +1

yup.. for just AU data you may be able to find one cheaper here,.. going overseas its sometimes harder to find data plans for short term travel. This one it also has the long expiry which means you can use what ever left over data in another country, or back here if you need.

      • Do you also have to pay HKD 50 for getting the DIY plan? I didn't find any option to just get free eSIM and buy the roaming Add-on

If you plan to use this service, install the eSIM on a secondary phone that runs an always on VPN

    • Unfortunately VPNs doesn't always keep your data safe. Especially in China. Source, I'm an IT consultant.

    • install the eSIM on a secondary phone

Any particular reason? Can you please elaborate

  • Would this work with a galaxy watch 3? I've not been successful in finding anecdote about roaming with smart watches

  • with an HK IP address, does this mean using this esim can browse blocked sites without a VPN?

  • I've tried to download the my3 app but the play store does not allow it - the error I'm getting is "This item is not available in your country".

But you need the app to do the real name verification…

Has anyone had any luck using this recently?

    • All the answers are in the OP.

  • Just wanted to share my experience of using this eSIM during my recent trip to the UK, Canada, and the USA. (I used it on my Google Pixel 6 Pro AU stock).

In the UK, I encountered some challenges. The reception was quite poor, and even when I did have reception, the speed was disappointingly slow. I was primarily in Woking and only made a brief visit to Watford. Fortunately, I came across this deal which proved to be a lifesaver.

In Canada (Toronto) and the USA (San Francisco), the performance was notably better. I experienced generally good reception and speed.

It's worth mentioning that in all instances, the highest connection I could achieve was LTE. I was never able to connect to 4G.

    • the highest connection I could achieve was LTE. I was never able to connect to 4G.

LTE is 4G, so you were connecting to 4G.
