[Resolved] Balance Is Gone from Cashrewards Account Due to Account Inactivity

I've gone to use cashrewards for the bigw sale and noticed that the balance I had in the account is gone. It wasn't a large amount as I've only used the account once but want to start using it more now that I have more time, especially with everything getting more and more expensive.. but what is the point if funds go missing? I am guessing it expired now I look into my emails but why should funds expire? If I earn the amounts and have to wait a very long time to get the cash back, why should there by an expiry timer on it? How is that fair?

I can see cash rewards took the amount on the 21/03/22

Is cashrewards doing a rug pull?

  • but why should funds expire?

Because they're a business and they lose money when they pay you a cashreward. They've probably worked out that after 12 months people forget about small balances, like you have, so they can just 'not pay it out' and they've gotten free money from the partner paying them.

I know this sort of thing will be covered by the terms and conditions and the lawyers they hired will have buttoned everything down so it’s legal.

    BUT

Scummy is still scummy even if the terms and conditions allow it.

Just because they have higher priced legal suits than the rest of us could afford doesn’t make it morally right.

Would this pass the pub test.? No.

Hi. This is an accounting requirement that most (if not all) cashback providers have in place, and clearly stated in our terms. Also, you would have been notified via email well in advance giving you ample time to action. As an fyi, to maintain your balance all you need do is log into your account and click out to a store at least once per year. But please don't worry. Simply PM me your Cashrewards email address and I'll gladly re-instate your rewards. Thank you.

Would like to sort this out for you right away for you, as I won't be online on the weekend. Please email [email protected] from your CR email address and comment the auto-response ticket number here, then leave the rest with me. Cheers.

        • Thanks, I didn't know it could be reactivated, got $15 reactivated from 2019 from ShopBack. 😂

Balance has been put back, thanks again TA

        • Hello TA,

Was just digging up this thread because this had happened to me unfortunately when I tried to log in today! $700 odd bucks gone. Would you be able to please assist with reinstating the balance as its a substantial amount and I need it considering these hard times. I have emailed support and the enquiry no. is 1198384. Many thanks I hope you can see this comment and respond accordingly.

          • @jskf01: Thanks for responding TA and reinstating this account thanks!!

          • @jskf01: Curious as to why you wouldn't cash it out?

Could you clarify on the accounting requirement exactly?

It's cashback speak for free 💵.

How do you think CR and SB fund the bonuses for the rest of us? Yep, ANZ and PE money, but also…

  • +1

    How is that fair?

Presumably because that's what you agreed to in exercising your discretion to sign up for the service?

Do you realise these rules also apply to Woolworths Rewards and Flybuys? Inactivity for a year voids all credit. This isn't unique to Cashrewards or cashback providers.

    • i like how woolie rewards automatically use the points for 10 cash off once 2000pts accumulated

  • Yes

    A CDC gives a 2.00% to 8.00% cashback and doesn't expire.

    🍕 4️⃣ 🤔.

  • Sounds like my TAB account I set up for Melbourne cup a while back. Didn't log in for some time and they took around $100 bucks in fees.

    • TAB accounts have fees?!

      • +1

Yep - for 'inactivity'. They once slugged me and I closed the account and never used them again. Their rates aren't as good anyway, hence the inactivity.

  • need to check any accounts that have reward dollars and/or points.

QANTAS does the same. had to make a few transactions to reinstate almost 120K worth of points/

    • Just use everyday rewards on the qantas mode

  • check your email, I got an email from shopback recently about not using the account for 12 months and losing my rewards. Every company does this.

    • Can you advise the subject line of that email please? I can't find any in my email history, but there's so many emails I might have missed it.

      Cheers

"Your Cashback is Expiring in 60 Days" was my one from shopback.

    • Weird, still nothing. All good though, got it reactivated via chat anyways.
