Best Vacuum for Hardwood Floors/Suggestions?

Good afternoon community,

I am in need of a reliable vacuum cleaner for our house.
Our only purchase has been the Xiaomi Dreame Trouver Power 11 which the battery has shat itself for a while now and the Ebay store has been deactivated…probably to avoid the onslaught of warranty claims.

  • Budget wise: $1300 and below if it justifies the lifespan.
(Hoping for a deal coming up, not willing to buy RRP unless some bonus tools, not too sure if Dyson are bringing out a new one which might drop
    the price of others.)
  • Engineered Hardwood flooring throughout
  • Medium size house (4 bed, 2 bath)
  • Girlfriend with long hair, 1 indoor cat

We have looked at the entire range of Dysons, but we are still slightly overwhelmed by which exact one is better than the rest.
Obviously a fluffy head would be a must to avoid scratching.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

    Best Vacuum for Hardwood Floors/Suggestions?

    A golden retriever…

  • Our only purchase has been the Xiaomi Dreame Trouver Power 11 which the battery has shat itself

    Buy a new battery ???

    • Not really interested in extending this guys life. Became a struggle in the end.

  • Haven't used any myself but have heard nothing but good things about Sebo vacuums.

They dont make bagless vacuums though

  • +1

    Strongly recommend a robo vac
You'll wonder why you spent so long vacuuming once you get one

    • Which one would you recommend?

      • Roborocks
        Viomis s9
Roidmi eve plus all have great offerings

        • Awesome I will have a look into those!

    • I've avoided this because we have to make sure the floor is clear of larger debris anyway, so the robovac doesn't get stuck. In reality, how much work is this on a daily basis? Two young kids in the house means the floor is always messy.

i have a roborock s5. A bit old, but good.
Every evening when the kids go to bed (2.6yo x2) i shove cars into their storage container and move other ramps and hot wheel loopies onto the couch and put the chairs of their table off the ground; add a wet soggy mop thing to the robovac and press GO.

removes the feeling of dirt and lego pieces under the feet.
It even picks up some cars from under the couches which I cant be bothered to get.

  • can't speak for the newer dysons but haven't been very impressed with my v6+v8.

the miele c3 would eat them all up buuuuuuut

    ….it has a cord

    • Yeah we were looking at the c3 but I heard mixed things about possible scratches on hardwood?

Buy this, it'll make vacuuming hardwood WAY easier as it glides effortlessly (+larger width), and there's no risk of scratching your floors as only the bristles make contact with the floor.

Exxy for what it is but its worth the money

  • We have a Dyson Omniglide. It won't scratch the hardwood floors afaik. Only downside is the 20 min battery life. So we use it for regular cleans and pull out the Miele for the weekend.

I'm also looking to purchase our first Dyson cordless vacuum.

At first I knew nothing about the many different models, however after extensive research it appears the V10 or V15 with the fluffy cleaner head is best for us given we have mostly hardwood flooring. I'm just waiting for a sale on either model now.

I got the Dyson v10 Absolute which came with the hard floor powered head. Much more effective than the classic carpet brush head, since the felt gives a smaller/tighter suction to the floor and improves the effectiveness dramatically.

I didn't have much trust in a battery vacuum, but I had little choice since the cabled models didn't have the hard floor tool. I've been pleasantly suprised how well it works, as well as how long it lasts even with continuous usage. Would recommend even at it's eye-watering prices, you do actually get what you pay for in this case.

happy with my Dyson V10. I have hardfloors/timber as well and actually use motorhead instead of fluffy (not golden retriever)

    • No issues in terms of scratching that you have noticed?

      • +1

nah they're just fine brush. fluffy head to me is like having a mop, fine in the first few goes, but it goes brown and yucky after a month or two.
Plus dirt and debris sticks onto the fluffy head, same risk of scratching your floors.

We have a V8 Animal which we use daily on bamboo floors (funnily, we do have a golden retriever) - just the regular head, not the fluffy - no scratches

Miele house here with hardwood flooring, and carpets in the bedroom. I will never use a Dyson again. Miele’s crap all over Dysons, and the bags take like 10 secs to swap over

    • Which exact model do you use?

C3 but from about 4-5 years ago. Stock up on bags whenever good guys has a sale and also check gumtree/Facebook for people who sell their attachments cheaply.

The turbo head for carpets is excellent (which I got for $25 with 8 bags off gumtree) but I just use the normal head for my hardwood flooring

For a house of all hard floors any Dyson V7 and up would be fine, the fluffy head is a nice to have, not a necessity and you won’t scratch your floors.

As someone else has suggested, if you want to go the corded route Miele are the brand to get. It’ll last a lifetime. Again, with all hard floors you really don’t need to get the CX84000, a C1 will be completely fine. Use the leftover money to get the parquet twister head which you will need to avoid scratching your floors.

Your requirements for a vacuum (no carpets, one pet) are actually surprisingly low and so buying a Dyson V15 or a Miele C3 Cat and Dog truly is just wasted money. Just my opinion but I do clean for a living.

  • Thanks so for for the suggestions thus-far everyone:)
