Flight to Europe - Is Outbound PCR Testing Still a Thing?

Hey guys, flying to Amsterdam in Juli from Melbourne.

Just wondering if the pre-boarding PCR test is still a requirement.

I checked on the government websites and it doesn't seem to be needed anymore, both at the destination and the departure country.

It's hard to get a 100% clear answer though. Has anyone flown a similar path recently?

Comments

  • Only required if the airline / country specifically states that pre-departure testing is necessary to board or enter. In this case if the Netherlands and airline do not, then you should be good to go.

You can refer to a FAQ published in Jan '22 here by the Department of Health.

By July, I'd expect it to have changed again anyway. Worst case its $79 at the airport so shouldn't be a massive deal.

    • What is 79? A PCR isnt done at the airport?

      • Histopath has setup express travel testing clinics at major airports. They can do a 90 minute PCR test with the required forms for $79 (thought best to leave a few hours in case there's delays)

I recently flew overseas. I know etihad and qantas requires outbound PCR testing.

  • Thanks, see how hard this is.

I am flying Singapore airlines, straight through Singapore.

    • Singapore Airlines and Singapore have it's own regulations though. If your flight is a VTL flight it is a lot easier.

I’m flying to Lebanon next week with Qatar airlines. Needed to be fully vaccinated in the past 6 months. If more then 6 months you need to do the booster shot or do a PCR. Hubby did the booster shot yesterday and wished he did the PCR instead.

I flew to Germany via Singapore with Scoot last month. No test required if fully vaccinated for outbound flight. Check country requirements and confirm with airline.
If it's still required a supervised RAT might suffice. I've read on here that some Chemist Warehouses were offering this for $29.

    • ah that's helpful, I would say the same applies for amsterdam via singapore.
