Awesome bag. I backpacked around Europe with it and it was super functional with all the pockets. Very comfortable and hard wearing.

    • Literally did the same.

30L is also on sale: https://www.paddypallin.com.au/osprey-porter-30-duffel-bag-s…

I recently upgrade my Osprey Atmos 35 to an Osprey Tropos 34 which is $157 with an ebay voucher if you search for it, consider the Tropos as well, it stands up by itself :)

+1 for this bag. I've taken mine around the world for years and years, never missed a beat.

With this bag, I no longer check in luggage anymore. This is a perfect fit for carry on and is fairly light so doesn't eat into your carry on weight limits too much.

Robust build with solid zips and buckles, plenty of storage space and useful pockets everywhere.

  • Thanks. Got one. There was 10 off again for ebay plus.

Is there an external pocket or other way to securely stow a drink bottle while still making it super accessible?

The warranty for US buyers is lifetime, but not for us. I noticed I'd a plastic bumper (a knob of plastic the pack lands on when down flat) knocked off my big wheeled one (must've happened in an airport luggage handling). 3D printed one a better design than the original.

farpoint 40l 30% OFF COMES IN AT $160 This is the perfect size for carry on luggage. A great way to take advantage of cheap airfares. A fantastic bag at a great price.

Yes, I'd say the Farpoint 40 slightly edges out this one!

  • I just randomly started looking at backpacks as a tangent yesterday as I was thinking to buy a carry on size for last few weeks. Did some online search and realised this was recommend pretty much everywhere and realised this was on sale.

Come to look at OzBargain to see if there was a better price and see the post. So lucky lol. Bought one. Thanks OP and everyone who shared their experience!

Another vote for this bag - I've had mine for nearly 10 years and it's such a nice feeling walking past the baggage carousels at the airport. Very comfortable even when packed to the limit, and it's not so huge that I get pulled over by airport staff to check the size or weight.

edit: turns out I have an older model of the bag (doesn't have the laptop pocket or the pocket on the flap) but still, thumbs up for the product

  • Porter 46L always hits the spot. best for carry on.

I travelled with this pack for one short trip and sold it as soon as I got home. Happy to explain…

I got the 30L version for carry on travel as I don't check in luggage (my pack averaged about 7-8kg). I don't think the support system is that great, so if you'll be doing a lot of walking around and commuting you might come to hate it like I did. You will probably be ok if you use taxis etc and don't need to carry it as a backpack for good distances.

There's no ventilated back system, just a flat foam backing. So it means in hot weather you'll work up a good sweat on your back. Laptop pocket is at the front flap, it works but not ideal. I prefer to have it at the back as it balances the pack a bit better and also provides better protection for your gear.

What I did like was the ease of packing, with the flap opening up all the way like a suitcase. The front straps were also good for cinching the pack down. And being able to pack the shoulder straps away was nice for storage on the plane/bus/train, but it also means you need to take that minute to unpack it as well.

Ultimately, the lack of comfort made me sell the pack as soon as I got home. I probably would have gone with the Farpoint in hindsight.

I ended up getting the Tropos 34 and it has since seen multiple trips and I intend on keeping it for the long term. Much better airframe support system, good pockets, and has a frame that lets the backpack stand upright on its own.

    • Thank you for sharing your review. It stops me buying it just because its on special and I will do my homework first.
