  • Can these be used as TV speakers? Instead of a cheap soundbar

    • Yes, although this set doesn’t have a sub output if you decide to add one later.

Do you by any chance know how the Bass is. I don't really need a really loud speaker set. I just need something that's better than the TV speakers, is clear enough in dialogues and doesn't cost much.
Which models would you suggest which has sub or can be added later.

I have the smaller and lower powered r1855db’s and they are awesome. No issues with bass at all and I’m running a completely flat EQ. They also have the sub output if you need.
These r2000’s should be a significant amount better so I doubt you’d need to add a sub.

        • The bass is quite full and impactful, especially for the price, enough to fill a medium to large sized room with a TV. Rolls off after 70hz and reaches about 50hz.

    • They sound far better than any built-in TV speakers. But they lack HDMI-CEC (and HDMI). Meaning to adjust audio you must use:
      * Toslink/SP-DIF with the chincy Edifier remote =bad
      * Analog RCA, which for me crackles =bad, or
      * Bluetooth, assuming your TV setup supports it =good.

Should your TV be lacking Bluetooth you can always invest in something like a Google Chromecast or Nvidia Shield.

They are also quite loud. I suspect most people would be satisfied with the less powerful Edifier R1850DB - 70 vs 120 Watt RMS. Which also have a subwoofer output should you ever decide to upgrade to a home theatre experience.

      • I got these recently and they're definitely better than my TV's built in speakers but not being able to change the volume with our Chromecast remote is less than convenient than before. Maybe we can work something out in the future but just a bit of an inconvenience.

        • If your tv support HDMI ARC, your can use the hdmi to toslink converter. I use my tv remote to control my Edifier speaker.
