Jump started a Saab with this yesterday. No issues

Surprised they don't have an adapter for defibrillator paddles, they could then claim actual life saving !

    • with 13ish volts, you'd be lucky to defibrillate a mouse..
though wouldn't be too hard to boost it in the adaptor for the correct pulses needed for a human.. basically how normal defibs work

"With a 4000A peak current, it can start all gasoline engines and diesel engines up to 10.0L in just a few minutes"

Minutes??… It takes literally one second or less with this thing.

    • +3

I believe this includes set-up time.

      • should be

  • Does anyone know the real differences between these and the noco's?
Is it better componentry? Why such a big price difference?

    • +1

This 4000A Gooloo one has higher peak current, there is a video if it jump starting a farm diesel engine too.

The Noco GB70 is more expensive, lower peak current but can sustain the current for a longer duration if you have an engine that is flooded etc.

For battery jump starters, Gooloo is better than the equivalent Noco's. But for chargers, I prefer Noco for high current charging and CTEK for lower capacity battery charging.

      • How about Projecta Intelli-start jump starters? I quite like their rapid recharge idea

        https://www.projecta.com.au/categories/jump_starters/intelli…

        • No comparison, that is only rated to 1500A. I recommend reading up reviews on the rapid recharge. How does it do it? It is still a Lithium phosphate battery, so what does it do in that 40 seconds? Does it use an intermediate capacitor hold the 40 second charge which is then used to top up the battery? Sounds too good to be true.

With the Gooloo 4000A, you can jumpstart multiple times and then charge it using USB C, and it tops up very quickly. It's not something that you would use until it is flat, requiring hours to recharge. Recharging is 15W anyway, which tops it up in about an hour. If you did flatten the whole battery, it would go from totally flat to fully charged in 6.6 hours.

          • @Sleepycat3: I used the Projecta IS1500 to start a 6L V8. Did it no problems. It’s a well made durable kit with much thicker jump leads than the GooLoo. It’s also very lightweight. That said, it’s not really designed to be kept under a car seat but in a garage or mechanic’s workshop. Would be fine in a boot. Best price was around $400 when I last checked.
For most people, the GooLoo is a better buy.

A good comparison between them here by Project Farm https://youtu.be/ixWPx79g3yk

  • how long does the battery last on this if you charge it up and leave it unused in the back of the car?

    • +2

Last time I had mine left at home for about 4 months and it still started my kluger no problem.

    • +2

I have a similar model. It says to recharge it every 3 months. But I know from experience that after APX 6 months, it still started my van first time with no issues at all (the only time I have ever actually needed to use it!).
Keep out of sunlight though, store in glovebox etc.

    • +2

Charge it every 3 months. If you leave it too long the device will be bricked and refuse to charge. Ask me how I know… :/

      • Same happened to my mother in law, she didn't check charge and bricked it. I've got another for her and will check in monthly.

My own, 1500A from 2018 has saved me and randoms many times, most recently 1.5L Lancer last month.

        • +1

Only got as far as "….mother in law"

    • Had mine for two years. Only had to charge it to full a couple of times in that period after using it to jump. I keep mine in a insulated bag in the boot, seems to be fine in there. I check it occasionally and the charge holds fine.

    • I use mine for phone charging etc so it's never left for long

  • How long would this power my Rovin 50l car fridge?

    • +2

It's about 8ah, if your fridge was completely cold when you turned it on you'd get 4 hours on a cold day. Reality is you'd likely get more like 2 hours in real world conditions (openning the fridge to get drinks and replacing them with warm ones)

      • Hungry fridge if it uses 4A average

    • -1

      Not designed for this purpose..
These are built to give short bursts of charge at high output..

      • It's literally one of the selling points in the advertisement:

"High Capacity Portable Charger - The GP4000 portable car battery jump starter is equipped with dual USB charging output ports (one compatible with fast charging) and a USB Type-C charging port (5V/3A). You can use it to charge other devices or recharge the Jump Starter itself. It can be taken anywhere and can quickly charge numerous portable devices, such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, GPS systems, and more."

        Additionally:

        "15V/10A DC Output
A cigarette lighter adapter is included. Perfect for portable tire inflators, car vacuum cleaners, or any electronic device needing a 15V DC connection. Easy “plug-in-play” with the GOOLOO GP4000 portable car jump starter battery pack"

    • If your in the ego architecture this is for your fridge

      Skin $129
      https://www.totaltools.com.au/149759-ego-power-150w-inverter…

      Or with a battery n charger $299

      https://www.totaltools.com.au/176981-ego-power-56v-nexus-esc…

  • I have the 2000A version, but this one will be a nice addition for a new car.

  • Recently bought the expensive gt4000s currently $90 off on Amazon n couldn't believe gooloo skimped on carry case only providing a draw string bag, even my cheaper gooloo had proper carry case, Eva hard case extra 40 to 50 bux

  • What should i get if i want to power my macbook or other regular power adapter stuff in my car?

    • I'd get one that supports high current USB-PD if that is what your Macbook requires. Noco's Boost series has 65W USB PD, but pricing is almost double this. You might as well run a 240V inverter off your car's 12V accessory socket.

      • My power brick is 96w and has detachable usbc cable.

Will the 12v to 240v inverter power it?

    • +1

There is a $90 discount on the GOOLOO GT3000s ($169) and GT4000s ($186) which both have 100W PD charging.

For a normal 240V socket you're better off with an inverter, otherwise power packs are easily towards $300

  • How good is the BaseUS model on eBay? I'm looking for the cheapest one…

  • +3

Used my Gooloo to jump start other peoples cars that I see on my travels. Never had to use it for any of my cars.

I carry it with in the boot of the car. Take it out if it’s a hot day.

Good feeling that you can help another driver out.

    • Been thinking to put mine in double foam esky, should keep the heat out long enough.

  • +3
    • Yup $186 great deal on this model

    • Can i have this charging off the 12v and powering a macbook pro via usbc that uses a 96w brick at same time?

  • Any way to save one of these things after it's been left unused for over a year and won't hold a charge at all anymore?

    • Yup needs just a jump start with desktop power supply, about 5 minutes 12v @1amp will give it enough juice to start charging again.

      • Oh for real? Are you able to point me in the direction of some more info on this please?

A quick google is giving me results on how to jump start the actual desktop power supply itself, not the battery.

        • Google jump start lithium battery

          • @Wayne7497: Ok looks like I’m getting some good results now. Thank you

  • Jumped my Camry and a friends HR-V so far. Great product. Keep it in the boot.

    • +1

Remember to take it out when its a hot day. Lithium batteries don't like the heat.

      • Oh yeah, good point. I've only had it for a few weeks. Will definitely take it out when its too hot. Thank you for the advice :).

        • +1

I keep mine in the boot, under the carpet next to the spare tyre. I placed a thermometer next to it and kept it there for a few weeks. It never went above 30C during a heatwave in Sydney, checked around 3pm while the car was left in direct sun. The jump starter should be kept below 40C if I remember correctly. It's been in the boot for two full years now and it still holds charge well. Recharged every 6 months or so.

  • I have the cheaper version of this brand and my 24V truck wouldnt start on me after work one day about 5:30 in winter getting dark, it managed to start it even being a 12v starter just putting it on one battery and at least got me home so I wasnt stranded. Have 2 of these units now they're awesome.

  • soo umm i bought this, and tried to jump start a Mazda 6, 4cyl with a dead battery it didn't work with the boost mode. Should I be worried lol.

    • How dead is the battery? Did you have a green light when you connected the device to the battery? It should be on that big chunky piece of plastic.

      • it was blinking green, and so I hit boost. Turned ignition then the car turned on and off several times (without me starting it each time).
