Oooh, nice find, OP. The downside being you cost me $463.59…

  • What do I need to make this work? What kind of Amp? Already have a PSA1+ for my mic.

    • +1

A good audio interface - these things need a fair bit of gain to work well.

      • Sorry am noob - what does that mean? What would I need to buy?

          • @garetz: A Cloudlifter is unnecessary and expensive. A preamp with 60db gain is more than enough to get a good signal from the mic, which will be cheaper.

            Basic Preamp suggestion: https://djcity.com.au/product/behringer-mic500usb-ultragain-…

@gandalfsuperior: the more gain you add the higher the noise ceiling, you are much better off getting the cloudlifter, sure its not necessary, but if you end up using it, it can make a big difference.

The review by Daniel Davinci on amazon is particularly good on the cloudlifter. It mirrors my sentiments exactly.

I've used both a Blue spark mic and a Shure SM7B and both require post production edits to raise the volume. Turning up the gain on my pre-amp simply wouldn't cut it since it introduced the inevitable hiss. I noticed that many people recommended the Cloudlifter and a 'must-have' if you own an SM7B. Since I just bought an SM7B and was witnessing the same need to pump up the volume, I took the plunge.

You can read the rest of the review on amazon.

              • @garetz: I can't seem to find the cited review, so I'm unsure of the preamp they were using, however, they could have used any combination of gain, output, and other features on their preamp to accentuate the hiss.

In my experience with the SM7B and the aforementioned pre-amp, you get marginal noise in recording software, and rare fluctuations in applications which utilise a gate.

My suggestion was simply to avoid the Cloudlifter if deemed unnecessary, as the microphone and the preamp are already a good combination to empty the wallet.

  • Worth upgrade from MV7?

    • Depends on what you're doing with it. Realistically, probably not, but they are different mics, so given that, yes :-)

      • so what is the recommended setup equipment required if you want to use for vocals only for both mv7 and smv7b with the ozbargain budget?

  • Damn was about to go to bed but saw this and had to buy another … I would recommend a Cloudlifter CL-1 with this mic ( I have this mic already and using it with a CL1 and a Rodecaster pro which works as an audio interface or stand alone for recording).

    Great price!
For the potential buyers, you will most likely need a cloudlifter or fethead of some sort for this mic, along with a decent interface / recorder.
The whole setup is probably way more than just the mic. Just FYI.

SolidLogic SSL II interface supposingly doesn't need a fethead.

I’ve been watching this as it was at $500 for a really long time, now it’s finally under! Thank you.

Careful you’re not buying from the third party unless you want to take the risk for just $20

  • What are y'all using this for?

      twitch asmr

Check on eBay, quite a few sellers selling at this price or very close to this

  • Literally bought a rode procaster last week. Thx for the post. Got 2. One to keep just incase for the future if it breaks

This is a good deal, I grabbed a third one!

Anyone considering a SM7B should only buy from a trusted known authorised seller, so this coming from Amazon AU will be local stock with the Australian distributors authentication serial number and sticker (https://www.jands.com.au/shure-product-validation)

There are lots of fake Shure mics sold on Amazon and eBay by third party sellers, and lots of Amazon sellers who just pop up and sell these at just over the $500 mark with the only other item they sell being an umbrella or water bottle. They seem to get shut down eventually but then pop back up under a different seller name, buyer beware.

With that said I have no qualms jumping on this deal and only ever received genuine Shure products when Amazon Australia was the actual seller.
