Painting Scratches on Car

Hello All

There are scratches on the bonnet of my car. Mostly because a plastic clothes basket got dragged on the bonnet. Any suggestions on cheaper way to paint those scratches?

Here are the pix:

Can't tell from the smallest resolution pictures I've seen since the Gameboy Camera but it would depend how deep they are. Clear coat scratches can generally be buffed out with "scratch remover" products but deep scratches into the paintwork will likely need repainting. Best bet is to take it to a smash repair/body panel shop and see what they suggest.

Any less pixels and it'd be radio.

Pull the other one. Was the basket full of bricks?

    • Doesn't everyone dry their clothes that way?

I thought that was the industry standard

    • Goes to show you don't do your own laundry. You know how heavy a full laundry basket of wet clothes is?

Either overloading your washing machine or unfit… pick.

          Porque no los dos?

      • I have the laundry. The car garage was between the laundry and the back yard. There was not enough space to carry the big load of clothes. So, the folks at home used to keep the car bonnet as the resting place in between to take a breathe.

        • MAKE TWO TRIPS SHESH!

    • LoL.. basket was a bit hard but full of clothes

Use a cutting polish, they'll come out.

If you can see white then that is the undercoat and no amount of using a cutting polish will fix the damage.
      It's a respray job

      • It's looks like it's just the clear coat.

  • What make and model car? Depending on value of the car, perhaps touch up paint may suffice.

    • It is Mazda CX5

touch-up the deepest scratches, cut+polish or wetsand might get it to 85% of what it was.

Vinyl wrap it in carbon fibre look

    That’ll buff out.

Given the purple colour I'd choose a complete re-spray

  • Yeahnah, thats going to need new paint and clear coat.

You can do sections, i'd personally pay for someone to do it properly.

Alternatively you can buy a polisher/buffer from marketplace and spend an hour polishing it down and see what happens.

That's alot of scratches ……. was there a tug of war over who gets to do the laundry?

      • Oh no - where is the respect for the zoom zoom zooom?

You need to buy the folks a dryer to save the car's looks!

  • Try a good detailer (one active in the detailer community). As another poster has said it may just "buff out". For paint i think you would be looking at close to $1000 and be without the car for a few days for a good job. Have whover does the washing at your place pay for it…..
