  • From China.

    • to be honest this is close to being accurate

aussie wine is cheaper overseas than in Australia due to tax, especially at the cheap end, I get yellow tail reds for a few bucks in Hong Kong.

  • Did you contact the big wineries? I'm sure they will have excess they would love to get rid of. Don't forget to slap on a "Proudly made in Australia" label and charge 10x. /s

  • i think you can buy naked wines from nakedwines.com.au ? they usually have a voucher sent with kogan purchases etc.

  • Is quality an issue?
There'd be a fair few wineries happy to bottle up their dregs for cents in the dollar if the order is big enough given our Australian wine glut is ongoing.

  • It is worth looking at the wineries, they sometimes have boxes of cleanskins in their sales area.

One trick if you are in Rutherglen. Check the prices for wines at the local IGA before buying. Been a while since we were up there but the IGA was, always, appreciably cheaper than the wineries.

    • I don't think people travel to Rutherglen to enjoy the ambience of the IGAs there…

      • By all means visit the wineries to do the tastings but when it comes to purchasing time then look at the IGA pricing.

        • Might as well buy them when you return home from Dans then…

          • @jv: Interestingly enough the IGA in Rutherglen was cheaper than Dans.

            • @try2bhelpful: Maybe the transport costs are less.

@jv: It was just bizarre. The Buller Pedro Ximenez was $35 at the winery and $18, each, when bought in a lot of six at the IGA. Needless to say we bought from the IGA. Meant we didn’t have to go back to each individual winery before we headed home again either.

  • How many is "heaps"?

    • 1 more than heap…

  • Wineries are always more expensive than the local Dans or Liquorland.

My local has cleanskins reds and whites for $5 a bottle. And they're actually not that bad.
Packing 'em up for shipment to Vietnam - dunno.

    • It depends on the Winery and what they are doing. If you are looking at barrel haul sales, and are after a particular wine, they can be quite cheap. We got some great wines from Pfieffers, Dromana Estate, Innocent Bystander, etc by going to their clearance sales. If you just want to take pot luck then cleanskins from Dan will get you some cheap wines.

  • I hope OP has looked into the requirements for exporting wine to Vietnam. It isn't as easy as buying unlabelled wine and sending it off.

pack them in our boogie board bag?

  • You need to engage with either wholesalers or wineries direct. Direct you have more negotiating power but may not get what you want, when you want.
Wholesalers can negotiate on your behalf and can get the bulk for export.
The vast majority are in places like Adelaide.
Be mindful that cleanskins come about usually as a result of direct sales (to places like Skye Cellars and the likes), cellar door use, private use and gluts. Labelling is expensive.
However it doesn't mean a winery will sign up to allow their wine to be rebranded (why would they?)

$3/ bottle and there is a banner on the homepage offering a free covid RAT kit if you buy 12 or more bottles, not sure of the t&cs

  • Yes, I agree with what other poster have said. Contact a winery directly as they, like us, often have some inventory as cleanskin wines. Often these are for export orders that are waiting to be labelled with country specific labels. Or they might be about to bottle a wine and can turn off the labelling function on the bottling run so that a number of bottles will be cleanskin. They will also be able to label for you and pack straight onto export pallets for you at the same time as bottling so it is most cost effective.
