nbn Stopped Working with New Provider Dodo

Was previously using Aussie broadband for my NBN, switched over to Dodo today but internet was not working, called their support and they said because I was using an ADSL2+ router it will not work.

Confused why it was able to work with one company but not the other? Would have thought it would work for all or none at all.

Some modems need to be configured with the ISP details, they should have gone through this with you. ABB certainly did for me and so you probably still have their settings configured.

This was the ABB settings guide, ask Dodo for theirs: https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/nbn/modems/by…

Also, note while most units are modem/router combo units, it's the modem you need configured. Router is just a WiFi distributor simplistically.

    • Coming from my old place using optus NBN I signed up with ABB and just plugged and off I went, I'm still using the optus supplied router

      • It may have auto-updated settings then.

FTTN (Fibre to the Node) and FTTB (Fibre to the Basement) both require a ‘DSL’ port, other technology types use a ‘WAN’ port.

Instructions on what to do below link:

Optus and Aussie BB use the same IPoE protocol to authenticate your nbn service and that is why it was a seamless changeover.

Dodo use the PPPoE protocol and a VLAN ID of 100. I doubt the Optus modem supports VLAN IDs. You most likely need to purchase a new modem/router for Dodo's nbn or swap to an IPoE ISP again where you can use the Optus modem.

Most of what you said is right. However, Dodo do not require VLAN: https://support.dodo.com/modem-setup-guides/setting-your-mod…

          Connection type: PPPoE
Username: "email address used on signup"
          Password: dodointernet
          VLAN: Not required/NA

          • @[Deactivated]: About time Dodo have removed their VLAN ID. They used to use them.

        • I doubt the Optus modem supports VLAN IDs. You most likely need to purchase a new modem/router for Dodo's nbn or swap to an IPoE ISP again where you can use the Optus modem.

Ignore that part. You still have to reconfigure the Optus modem to use PPPoE with your Dodo credentials.

        • Is superloop an IPOE provider?

  • +2

ABB uses Dynamic or IPOE or DHCP however for Dodo internet you need to log into your modem router and change your connection type to PPPoE

You need to enter your Username and password, that is usually provided to you when you signed up. https://support.dodo.com/modem-setup-guides/setting-your-mod…

Change the PPP username to: "your email address used on signup"

Change the PPP password to: dodointernet

    Click "Save/Apply"

    • yes other than ABB/Origin or Belong, we need to config PPPoE as I know

      • +1

        Superloop doesnt need pppoE too

    • I could not find where to change the PPP. I did try to change the ADSL2+ login from [email protected] to the email/password dodo said to use but that didn't work either now I'm wondering if I go back to ABB since I can't seem to get this to work will I need to change that login back (I have no idea what the password used is). I'm using a SAGEM F@ST 3864 by the way

Ah yeah. SAGEM F@ST 3864 is indeed a piece of junk and you will need to hack it in order to access the advanced settings. Without access as an administrator many of the configs are hidden away from the user.

Someone created a github page detailing on how to hack the thing https://github.com/mattimustang/optus-sagemcom-fast-3864-hac…

There is a table of default factory passwords you can try to gain access as the administrator. If these work then you're good to go. If they don't work you need to download a python script that will help you decrypt it's config files and it'll spit out a password that you can use.

But if it is too complicated, I'd recommend getting a new VDSL modem router. The original F@ST 3864 (without WiFi AC) came out in like… 2014, so it's quite ancient hardware.

  • I have heard from parent's experience with dodo they were terrible ( in terms of the billing issue parent faced with them) Could very well be the case honestly that parent didn't wanna haggle or put his point across lengthy telephonic conversations etc.

Whatever the case I chose not to go with Dodo since then.

    • From my one experience tonight the guy was pretty horrible compared to ABB support

      • You know you have bad support when random strangers on a bargain forum can give you better networking advice than paid / salaried call center employee.

  • It's always the chance you take with bargain basement NBN :/

  • Stay away from Dodo. Terrible customer service. Even if you're saving a few bucks, it's not worth it

  • Worse internet! Not evenhitting 20Mbit on 100Mbit plan! Will be moving back to ABB….. too many dropouts and they blaming the modem LOL
