I have this - it's become completely useless in the past few weeks - bad firmware update or something - big thread here:

    https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Nest-wifi-r…

I have to reset it about once every few days, and often it'll conk out during a video chat, which is really bad when working from home.
Today I'd had enough, so ordered a different mesh - it's a real shame, as this had been running perfectly for about 10 months for me.

    • which mesh if i may ask?

      • +1

I got the 2 pack gl-inet Velica instead, (GL-B2200 / Velica - GL.iNet), Amazon had it on one day Prime shipping, so that suited me just fine.
Overall the wifi coverage seems about as good, if not slightly better, (I can cover the house with2 points), and Velica being OpenWRT based, it's pretty flexible if you want to do something tricky, which the Google Nest isn't capable of. It also has adblock built in, which Google DEFINITELY wouldn't allow.
The only downside is I'll have to go back to using google mini's for smart home needs…

        • +1

thanks mate, i dont have smart devices at home so this will suit me fine.

Just recently mine went "offline", and googling it it seems like a pretty widespread issue with these. My internet and wifi etc all work perfectly, but I have no way to change any settings or do any diagnosis on the network because the only way to do so is through the google home app, and that just says the network is offline so literally can't do anything. Gonna try get replaced under warranty but Yeh, buyer beware. You also give up a fair bit of control with your network as I found out after purchasing, like no control over 2.4ghz/5ghz networks.

    • +1

Happened to me as my ISP was having issues resolving google endpoints. I noticed the issue as all of a sudden Youtube videos were really slow to start. They migrated me to some new config on the backend which resolved it and meant I could manage via Home app again.

    • To fix you need to reset everything. Happened to me before.

    • +1

Yes I’ve just been on a support call with Aussie, they are saying there is a widespread problem with nest, I’m only getting 60 on 100 plan and they can’t fix it.

      Sounds weird but seems true

      • +1

Ive been following a thread and on this. 4/5 points showing offline and can't access but internet and mesh still working

        • I had this occur very recently too. The points showed as offline but were actually still working. Cycling power on the individual points fixed it and showed the points as online again.

          • @particle: I've tried that a number of times and still offline but working :(

    • Just turn off all of them and your NBN modem, wait a minute, then turn them all back on.

Don't be surprised if it happens again after a week.

(There's no need to reset anything - apparently that doesn't help anyway).

Price errors like this should be banned from Ozbargain, all it causes is headaches for the seller who won't honour it and then has to process tons of refunds and adjustments.

  • +2

    Do not buy

    https://9to5google.com/2022/04/14/nest-google-wifi-offline-r…

To those that "missed out" you saved yourself from hours of stuffing around and months of intermittently bad internet.

    • +4

      i've been using Google / Nest Wi-Fi for 3-4 years. 0 issues. hasn't missed a beat.

the only time the network has gone down has been when the NBN has dropped out or had planned outages.

    • fully agree
      PIA to tshoot this prb

    • +1

Mine has been great until now.

But, I just spent an hour on the phone to my isp trying to figure if it was the nbn or my nest slowing the internet, turns out it’s the nest and this has been an ongoing problem with many nests Aussie have told me.

When I do a speed test with my nest router speed is 60, when I connect direct to Modem I get 100.

      • Interesting, how did u resolve the issue?

        • Haven't yet.

        • Factory reset fixed it

          • @Captain Hindsight: factory reset the google nest ?

            • @prankster: Yeah my speeds went back up but it’s created another problem which google doesn’t know how to fix and - I can’t add my remote points back in. They were meant to ring back with a solution but didn’t.

I’m thinking of investing in another mesh, just working out what’s best.

  • Here come the refunds!

  • +4

    Refund inbound.

"Thank you for making a purchase with azeshop!

We are saddened to inform you that we have had to cancel your order and refund the full amount.

There was a malfunction with our system upgrade during the time of your purchase and the price of your item was affected. Unfortunately the glitch caused a pricing error and that meant that the purchase was made under a wrong price.

We're sincerely sorry for what happened and our technicians are working hard to resolve this issue!

Thank you for your patience and kind understanding."
