Seems like a case with decent reviews. I'm personally waiting for a Fractal R5.

  • I'd save my money for something with better thermals.
If noise is your concern, you can reduce the fan speeds and get better performance and just as quiet if not more quiet.

I wish there were more airflow cases with front meshes that don't have glass panels and support a large number of 3.5" HDDs. Unfortunately, it's been trending the other way. Otherwise, the P300A, P400A P400A no rgb controller are also on special

      • yea i would like a case that instead of a glass panel a mesh one. Something similar to the lian li q58 side panel

        • Maybe the new torrent case?

      • I've got a define r4 floating around somewhere if you want it. No glass and insulation all over

      • I am still using my Lian Li PC-A70 I bought fifteen years ago. I fit in 9 fans and I have 5 3.5" HDD.

Only the cable management is a mess…

With a lot of hdds particularly, it's hard to get away from acoustic insulation. I use a silencio for this scenario (with a low power CPU) and it works a treat.

If you're using a computer in a common area too, an insulated case and a blower gpu can be a good option (however that's probably one of the few cases I'd recommend water cooling and a large radiator instead!)

But you're right, this is definitely not the best option for most people.

Fractal R5s aren't made anymore, they've been superseded by the R6 and now the R7. Unless you mean waiting for used ones to pop up on eBay/Gumtree.

    • R5 is very old case from 2014 lol.

    • I saw the R5 on special a few weeks ago but I'm guessing they were clearing old stock. I might have to go with an R7 - just don't like needing to buy hdd brackets on top of the already hefty price tag.

Also concerned about HDD temps when they're shoved behind the motherboard tray. As for the age of the R5, no USB3/USB C sucks but apart from that, I don't see much innovation in cases.

      • That would be clearance stock.

The 3.5" drives don't go behind the motherboard tray in the Define 7, they go in the same place where they would go in the R5 (between the intake fans and the motherboard tray). It's just the mounting method has changed.

        • You're right, the Define 7 comes can hold 6 3.5" drives out of the box. 2 are under the PSU shroud but apparently the lid above the HDD can be removed so thermals are probably fine.

I got confused by the multibracket mount accessory which I believe lets you put 3.5" drives behind the motherboard tray.

free delivery and ill bite :D

  • Ooh, maybe this means the 602 is around the corner.

I've been using the SB 601 TG since the NewEgg $25 I think it was "we're sorry" voucher a few years back. Great case. Note you'll need to buy a fan for exhaust.

My only issue with the mesh trend is dust. Enough gets through with a dust filter, even with the 601 having curved airflow from two front intakes.

Mesh with larger holes acting as a filter is going to let so much in over time.

  • I have this case. It's a great one with acoustically dampened steel panels (instead of sound-conducting tempered glass). Very good build quality.

To the eternal 'but the thermals are bad… mesh case with slower fans perform better!'. For people who are chasing ultimate silence (absolute silence), running the fans at low speed with acoustic foam will acoustically outperform any mesh case. The noise floor potential is simply lower.

Things like pump noise, HDD vibration, coil whine, fan turbulence will be audible with a mesh case even at low fan speeds. The only way is acoustic foam.
