Connecting to a USB hard drive on Android TV

Hi

I have a Sony Android TV, with an external hard drive attached to the USB port for playing media using Kodi installed on the TV
Other DLNA devices at home can also connect to it, so the TV is in effect also media server
(Previously I was using a Rasperrry Pi as a media/file server, however it died, so as a temporary measure plugged the HDD into the TV)

This all actually works very well, even when the TV is in standby

except….

I would like to be able to share the hard drive on my home network as an SMB (windows) share from the TV, as I was doing on the Pi

Can anyone recommend any way or app for doing this on Android?? I have tried a few different apps, but none work well or easily

Otherwise if not possible I know I can setup another media/file server (unfortunately seems it is just about impossible to buy a raspberry Pi at the moment)

Thanks

Do you have a PC/laptop that could be always on? Would make life easier. Setup Plex and share away

Does your router have a usb port? That might be an option.

Should be able to do with a Nvidia Shield TV or similar android box.
