[Resolved] Cashrewards Sony TV Purchase Cashback Rejected (Breaking T&C's Using Student Discount & Incorrect Response)

I purchased the Sony A90J during the recent Sony education store sale.
I used cashrewards to track the purchase which was confirmed shortly after with an email.

I've been tracking its process for a while and its been pending for weeks (which always happens anyway).I logged onto my cashrewards account last week to find it declined.
I emailed the asking why, the response I received was:

"Thank you for reaching out to our team regarding your declined cashback with Sony. I hope you're well today.

I have reviewed your Sony transaction within the store's system and I regret to inform you that Sony declined your purchase for cashback. Sony reported that your order was returned or cancelled. The store has confirmed that your purchase was not completed and because of this Cashrewards has not received any payment for this purchase that we can pass on to you.

Please note that you won’t earn Cashback if an order is cancelled, changed or returned. You may review our Cashback tips on the store's page on Cashrewards to ensure Cashback works for you.

Sorry that our team can't provide better news to you on this occasion.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, your support of Cashrewards is greatly appreciated."

Which is completely false!
I have the TV set up in my house.
I responded to cashrewards stating this, I sent them photos of the TV box with the address label from Sony clearing showing - also including photos of the TV set up in the house itself.

Has anyone else experienced this before??

EDIT

Cashrewards responded again, stating:

"Thanks a lot for getting back to us and for confirming this information. I hope you're having a good day today.

Please be advised that I have submitted a transaction query with the store to have the status of your Cashback re-reviewed. Rest assured we are doing everything that we can to obtain commission for your sale so that we can pass cashback on to you.

Any transaction that we query with Sony can take between 30-90 days to resolve as the store needs to ensure the cooling off period has elapsed, your purchase has not been returned or refunded, and that their analytics attribute the sale to Cashrewards.

Please disregard the Estimated Approval time frame listed against this transaction as this does not apply when querying a transaction with a store.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Have a good afternoon."

Mod: Reset the poll which had the question (Has anyone else experienced this before??) as a voting option.

    From the Cashrewards Sony Page:

Cashback is ineligible on purchases made with exclusive discounts provided to employees, corporate and commercial partners of Sony Australia. Cashback is also ineligible for Sony X Members, Alpha Pro Support, Student and Educator program members, and Service Centres.

Was going to be denied always as it's specifically ineligible. It seems like the response from CR wasn't correct, but has been denied as it was originally ineligible and denied by Sony.

Thats cool & I would accept that if that's the response I received from cashrewards - but they've replied stating Sony is claiming that the TV was returned - which it clearly hasn't been.
      So why the lie?

Hi cb01. As doweyy stated, your purchase appears to have been ineligible due to student purchase. I can assure you the response wasn't a 'lie'. The response given to you by the support team is exactly what Sony provides at network level if they decline a transaction. Having said that, I'd be more than happy to chase the 'exact' reason for the decline as I have contacts at Sony. I'll need you to PM me your CR email address and ticket number. Thanking you in advance :)

Thanks for the response - I’ll PM you shortly :)

      RIP Sony x

      • Do you know what ever happened to Sony X? Everything seems to have died down and there's been no responses on their facebook page either. Logging in still shows Sony X in the banner, but nothing else.

Guy who was running the program left Sony.

          • @kerfuffle: I do recall that a while ago, but I just assumed someone else would've taken it over. I guess not!

          • @kerfuffle: Yep and he was a huge driving force in the program - unfortunately looks like management gave zero forks and has abandoned the program including any discounts.

So grateful for the last gift box before the program was closed. Ive kept the hoody in box not worn as a reminder of the good times :’)

    I hope you're well today.

I hate this in emails and on phone calls to someone I don't know or care about. WTF is the purpose?

      It's a good gesture.

    • WTF is the purpose?

Grease the wheels, because what I'm about to tell you, you may not like to hear.

      Hi MS Paint,

I genuinely hope you're well today.

      • +2

Likewise. Thanks for being so genuine.

  • Did you use a student email address when you ordered?

    Hi @cb01

Managed to track down your ticket and took it upon myself to write to Sony. Here's the response for transparency (apologies for the red ink). Appears there was a simple mix up in comms re decline reason. In short, the transaction is definitely ineligible based on the fact it was purchased via a student offer as outlined in an earlier response, against the terms for the store. Your ticket (701691) is now closed, and cashback declined. Thank you.

      Thanks for chasing that up.
Just found it strange with the response I received that’s all!

      • +1

No worries at all. Thanks for flagging.

  • $344.94 - ouch

    • No, that's some sort of GST component. Cashback on purchase date was only 2%.

      • +1

        That makes sense. Cheers

        Q. What sort of student is buying a $3k tv?

        A. A University of Tasmania student.

        • It’s an old uni email from a few years ago, it’s still active for some reason so I took advantage of it!

          • @cb01:

so I took advantage of it!

Not on this occasion champ 😂

@Muzeeb: Retail price is $5k “champ”
