Coles and Woolworths 1L Premium Ice-Cream Discontinued?

Noticed today that my local (Tas) Woolies and Coles stores are both out of their name brand premium 1L ice-cream. I don't believe the Woolworths one has a name, but the Coles brand is 'irresistible'.

Anyone else noticed they're no longer available where you are? Have they been discontinued?

Even the coles homebrand 2litre variety are no longer on the shelves, their former space has been taken up so doesn't look like they intend to restock.

    • They'd filled in the spaces at my supermarket too :(

Word on the street is that they were made in a factory that got damaged by “the floods”.

      • Yeah, that’s the one. I believe they are the suppliers for both Coles branded milk and some if not all of Coles branded ice cream.

      • Wow the video with the cows floating down the river is a lot - sounds like it's going to take a while to clean up as well.

        • Welcome to the real world. Imagine the smell of that image with all the dead cows tangled in the fence, it would be brutal.

          • @mapax: It is. And then there are the other things you do not see, but smell….

The Norco factory at Raleigh when I was growing up was one of the places in OZ that produced no frills ice and there was no difference between it and the Norco and some other brands as I had extended family that worked there.

Unfortunately it was on a flood plain and flooded like Lismore Norco factory does and it takes a 2 to 4 months to get back operational after a flood due to cleaning and repairs and re-commissioning the plant and testing of the product to ensure it meets the quality required.

I assume the floods are why a lettuce costs $5 in Tassie also :(

      Everything is so expensive :(

    • Need to go to Farmgate or Harvest Market to see how much the locals are charging for lettuce.

On the positive side, lettuce is one of the easiest things to grow if it’s something you use regularly.

They don't do too well through Tassie winters…

It's because of the chip shortage. They can't make the ice cream without the chips in there to track it's consumers.

Yeah I've noticed this missing for a while. Thankfully Aldi still has $4.69 1L ice cream.

I've bought some of that, but you can definitely tell the difference. More "icy" and less "creamy"

      • Yep - very true.

  • I noticed that Coles didn't have any of their plant based ice creams on the shelf as well the other day as well, which was a shame as I'd just tried the choc peanut flavour and loved it

  • 2L, 4L are gone too.
