If you notice on Groupon, all the cheapo teeth clean ones force you to do x-rays. I believe it's to try and identify other issues that they can sell you on additional services like fillings etc.
Found the 1300 smiles to be up selling as a main priority. Went with a pain and found out out later from another dentist it was a split tooth. They ignored my initial problem and tried to force me into a $450 mouth guard for another issue that I wasn't suffering from and after my refusal they lost interest.
