Even the previous model XM4 had the same price as the XM3

The reviews I've read have been pretty ordinary. Not much improvement overall but the main down side is they do not fold like the XM4 so you need more space to store them in its container
lol nope. Retail of airpod pro max was like $900.
Just wait for sales. I predict it'll be regularly under $350

Most probably, as companies seek to increase profit margins by going upmarket. However the market in the higher tiers may have a smaller market, despite the high profit per unit.
The $500 mark was pretty much what the XM3 and 4s were at at their release dates
I'll drop down to the below $400s once rumours of the XM6s are out.
Not sure if it's targeted or not, but my Amex had a $75 back on in-story/online at Sony offer that I used.
The difference is you are buying $548 of quality.

Sony always prices their stuff super high in beginning, it will drop significantly within months
The $548 is apparently a preorder price and retail will be 649 once they are in stores.
Premium electronics clearly sell, especially with fantastic reviews. Coupled with rising prices across the spectrum from raw materials to manufacturing to logistics to advertising. It makes sense from a business stand point.
