Blizzard Honoring GAME Payments for Diablo 3

2050

Not sure if bargain or not, but this may be really handy to people who pre ordered with GAME.

Pretty much if you have already paid GAME $50, Blizzard will take $50 off the price of your digital purchase.

still a more expensive price all around, but if you have already paid a hefty deposit with GAME, this should save you cash.

You may find yourself with a free copy if you paid full RRP.

edit: Credit goes to ozbargain member Jobler for this one. inbox him a thankyou.

edit 2: To Clarify, the deal does not get you instantly get $50 off. the deal will give you credit for the amount you paid as your deposit. E.g. if you paid $10, you would only get $10 back, but if you paid $79, you would get $79 off the blizzard price.

Props to Blizzard for stepping up. At least it's some consolation for those who had their preorders cancelled.

    • +1

      you meant "STOLEN" ?

      • +5

hopefully people learn from this experience to STOP PRE ORDERING GAMES

        • +1

Agreed. It's the gaming equivalent of believing your bank manager when he's telling you to fix that interest rate! :p

        • Not necessarily StewBalls seeing as the interest rate has dropped I should have locked in when it was around 6.5%. (Obviously for term deposits and not loans)

  • +1

I wonder if the Game administrators will decide to not ship any stock that they have on hand (if any?). Because the customer getting their product and them keeping the stock = money.

Still, this is an absolute GODSEND for those affected.

      • +2

        Yawn. Obvious troll is obvious.

No one is going to start a reglious debate in the middle of a gaming post, lol.

        "Neg me if you want"

        Cool. Ok.

        I love the Jesus picture.

Your job is to kick the crap out of an evil incarnate so of course God would endorse it (assuming there is one).

      • +1

Charity '+' for trying it on anyway frewer! :p

      • +1

        lol Jesus negged you?

        • +1

It would be funny if someone made an account named Jesus just to prove your post.

        • You pair are gonna get so smote! ;)

      • -5

hahaha my first -86 thank you for all the unpopular. hhahaha

  • +2

props to you for wanting to announce it, but not really a bargain- better to post in forums.

    • +42

Yeah, the reason why I went here instead of the forums was because the forums don't get anywhere near as many hits as the main page/deals and wanted to save people who are already pissed off getting even more pissed off.

      up to mods though.

      • +6

fair enough mate… i gotta admit that i dont frequent forum anywhere near as much as trolling for bargains here ;).

        • +84

          There's a forum?

    • +4

Fully endorse a 'deal' listing in this case. This is a decent amount of money for a lot of people.

  • +3

Read this morning that even though Game had sent out the email stating they were not stocking the game or refunding deposits, at least one store still had a sign up saying they were taking preorders. Wonder if that's still the case anywhere. Mongrels.

    • one WA store had got there stock and gave it to their pre ordered customers apparently.

  • +3

Now this is how a company should treat its gamers… but i guess they do make $1 Billion each year from WOW so they can afford a little giving "back" now and again

    • +1

They still got a lot of fees to pay… It still means money in their pocket though.

  • +1

wow, just read it through here
    http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/5/13/3018593/game-austra…

GAME Australia texted customers today informing them that they will not be stocking Diablo III and anyone who pre-ordered the game will not receive a refund.

    • Would they atleast allow them to use the credit in store to buy something else, they have no right to take your money liquidation or not, thy still have assets in the stores.

      • +4

The do have the right to unfortunately.

      • You have the right to get back your money… after the level A creditors (such as banks) are paid their debts, and everyone else who comes after them who have a higher priority credit.

The reality is, there won't be anything left for 'low' level creditors such as those holding a Diablo III pre-order.

(just an opinion, not legal statement).

    • if you got that text youd automatically think your mate was having a joke. sucks bad for those affected

  • +1

Not interested in Diablo III but the more attention this receives I'm sure the happier people will be given the amount of Diablo related deals.

  • +1

I received my Collector's Edition from Game today, but I ordered online.

Another friend who also ordered from the website also got his copy.

My account says they posted on 11 May 2012, so that may be why we avoided the bullet… Lucky!

  • Pretty sure anyone that negged this post, might have it revoked real quick lol

    • how can anyone neg vote a FREE give away to help those people who were ripped off.

  • +6

Normally I'd say this belongs in the forums, but with the huge number of people affected by this, the more attention it gets the better.

    Very classy move, Blizzard.

  • So, for those who pre-ordered through GAME, what's stopping them from sending through the pre-order receipt to Blizzard and getting a second key for free?

    • +6

      Honesty.

    • nothing looks to be stopping them… but it does more "good" then harm for blizzard to go ahead and take the chance, like i said before… WOW makes them a billion each year! this freebee is chump change

I'm not a fan of D3, waiting for Guild Wars 2

    • +5

So you would abuse a genuine offer to help those who got shafted and abuse the trust of the company for selfish needs. Thats not how it works mate.

      • Mugsy, is just asking… he doesn't state he is going to be steeling,

        • Yep, it was just a question as it seems like an opportunity for some to double dip.

I know a second copy of a game use to be worth heaps to me when I was a student and had to fork out twice for everything in order for my younger brother to get to game with me. Thank god we're both earning good money now and I can just pay for my own stuff!

        • +2

I apologise then, i misinterpreted your comment for one of a different cause. Sorry buddy.

        • No worries mate. I'd probably be skeptical of such a question myself if someone else asked it… hopefully people will have some honesty and not try to double dip. The servers are overloaded as it is!

I'm just happy my CE from JB arrived in the PO Box today… pity my bro's copy was delayed but I've given him a starters ed code so he can at least get into the action (assuming B.net servers hold up).

    • +5

The possibility of being found out and having both accounts banned… or a conscience.

I've never been a huge fan of Blizzard, but what they are doing here is phenomenal. To take advantage of it when they will already lose profit from their kindess (which they are under no obligation to provide) would only discourage them and companies like them from doing this in the future.

    • Why would you want two copies anyway…?

  • That's very impressive!!!!

  • Diablo III Collector's Edition PC 1 Shipped: 11/05/2012

    from Game.

I CANT WAIT!! GET ME OUT OF WORK!!!

Props to blizz for doing this btw.

  • -8

    How much is the bargain?

    • +7

How long is a piece of string?

really depends on how much you paid on your deposit.

  • +5

+1 to Blizzard for doing this.

This is one of several reasons why I never preorder. Not only do you lose your money in the unlikely event the company busts (which happened here), but you generally end up paying more and cannot shop around and get the cheapest price.

There hasn't been a game that's 'sold out' in years justifying it, and the crappy bonuses they try to throw in nowadays are never really worth the extra cost either.

  • Great deal…even if I can't have the game as I have no internet available at home..(just at work!)

    • +1

Obviously if you haven't pre-ordered you'd be silly to go buy anything from Game now.

      Are you trolling?

        • -6
        • This is a bargain. For instance, a popular bargain was all NAB customer get a free set of shoes.

This is all Game customers that bought D3, get $50.

        • +4

Sure but if I posted the deal with

if you spend 10 cents, you get 10 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spent 11 cents, you get 11 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spend 12 cents, you get 12 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spent 13 cents, you get 13 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spend 14 cents, you get 14 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spent 15 cents, you get 15 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spend 16 cents, you get 16 cents off blizzards digital download copy.
if you spent 17 cents, you get 17 cents off blizzards digital download copy.

people might not read the deal. sometimes its about the bigger picture.

        • +1

I can see where he is coming from. Its a bargain because Game preordering people don't have to fork out more money to get their copy, but it isn't a bargain also because Blizzard are only doing right by people buying their product and holding up an amount that people have already paid.

        • I think the point is, those who spent money at game have lost their money. Until now THAT WAS A GIVEN. Those people had resided to the fact that they have indeed lost their money. Blizz has offered to credit those affected people with credit towards a digital copy. Id say, saving money you thought you'd originally lost constitutes a bargain

  • +5

Kudos to Blizzard for putting out phenomenal games but more importantly for supporting their Australian player base.

  • +1

This is additional embarassment for Game that their SUPPLIER has to step in and bail them out.

  • Honour, not Honor. Australian English please. But yes fantastic by the folks at Blizzard.

    • +14

You're lucky, Turd up there capped my negs.

      • You're welcome ;)

        • +5

You have a superhero-like ability to absorb negs, much like gamma radiation…come to think of it Turd, I don't think I've seen you & JV together at the same time!

JV Banner = Incredible Turd??? :o

        • +1

          HAH!

Come to think of it, where is jv? Haven't seen his bright beaming self in a while now.

        • +3

Yeah, I haven't seen him around for a while either. Two scenarios are likely:

          1. A mega prawn special somewhere required his urgent attention.
          2. He's having a holiday in the sin-bin (Penalty Box).
  • -3

Not a good deal, substituting a physical copy for a worthless digital one and to top it off they are charging you the price difference (Why is digital more expensive in the first place).

And the SADDEST thing is Blizzard is probably one of the creditors, since they would have invoiced and sent out the D3 boxes weeks ago to distributors.

Don't let them double dip you.

    • +1

Actually, GAME didn't even buy enough copies of the game to cover all of the preorders, so no, Blizzard are not double dipping you… in fact, they would be losing money on this.

      • -2

More likely gaining money from the press and media attention that it will/has get/gotten.
Blizzard arent out there to make a loss.

        • +3

Sure, in the long run, they'll probably end up making more money thanks to the good will that this has generated. I don't think that's something we should be complaining about though — generating money by being generous rather than greedy is something that should be rewarded, not condemned.

        • +1

Really? I find it unlikely that more people will buy D3 because of any "goodwill" that is generated. They are a publisher, not a store.

    • Didn't think of it this way, but its a good point.

My only point is that if you are going to buy a copy regardless and you have paid $20 or more on a pre-order which many people would have, how are you going to get a cheaper copy?

I dont understand how Blizzard would be one of the creditors who will receive money, because they havent shipped the physical copies to game in the first place, thats why people can't get their copies.

      • There is an error in my post, Blizzard is not a creditor, my bad.

This is what happens, Blizzard ships the games to an Aussie distributor (middle man), the distributor pays Blizzard money for the goods received. GAME then orders the copies off of the distributor and promises to pay the invoice, but obviously can't because they are bankrupt. The distributor becomes the creditor with a loss in their balance sheet, Blizzard does not and aleady sits on money.

        so the situation is this:

For example prices are ficticious here: Blizzard normally makes $20 out of the $30 it sells for the game, the ditributor then goes on to sell the game for $50 to GAME and pockets $20. GAME then sells the game for $80 and is suppose to pocket $30.

        Now

GAME can't sell you it because they are dead. Blizzard comes in and knocks $50 off the $80 digital price tag as an 'offer'. You pay them $30 ($80-$50), therefore Blizzard has now made $50 (initial $20 + $30).

They have essentially down sold you a digital copy for the price of a phyiscal + more. When they would not have seen that revenue to begin with.

Yes you 'pay' less (is digital even the same product?), they also 'profit' more.

        • +4

"Yes you 'pay' less (is digital even the same product?), they also 'profit' more."

So they worked out a solution that made them profit and saved you cash when they were under no obligation to do so. sounds like a win-win scenario.

        • Are you really paying less? Your paying more in a way because you've got to pay their RRP (which your deposit just became part of). Then there's the whole issue of value of a digital copy (no resale value or tangible value). But yes I agree they have managed to move more units this way.

        • Blizzard releases how many big title games a year? One, maybe two? They don't have a middle man, except for small orders. Game would probably have bought direct for a huge title like Diablo 3. Blizzard have already made a name for themselves, so they don't need distributors.

  • +2

Some say that posts such as these belong in the forums. Not being a regular to the forums, maybe you should be able to +/-ve vote forum posts so posts like these could get recognition and just become another option when you are logged in and what you want to see on your front page and any other option that is feasible on a site such as ozbargain, maybe restrict the forum posts to the last post so it won't appear if it isn't an active post and not appear at all after 30 days (or any other time period). Just some of my thoughts. Anyway, certainly this is not a bargain, but it definitely is something that should be +ve voted for.

    • It's true that this post belongs in the forums technically, but it is also true that it wouldn't be seen in the forums.
There must be a better way of handling this type of situation. The way I see it, it could be through either directing more attention to the forums, or integrating popular forum posts into the main page.
Seeing as I don't think the forums will ever get the kind of traffic the main page receives, perhaps like you've said, there should be a way to upvote this to the forums.

  • How much is the price of the digital purchase?

    • $79.95 or there abouts

  • Can someone explain how someone would be able to get two copies from this? I certainly can't see it. Cause GAME sure as hell isn't going to honour the preorder or refund so basically that's useless. The only way I could see someone getting it twice would be to use the reciept to get a discount twice?? On two copies?

    • +1

Some people have received their copies from Game

  • I'm wondering what will stop every idiot and his dog making a custom receipt online and sending that through and getting game for free.

T-up to Blizzard for looking after people who actually purchased!

  • Good on ya..Blizzard

  • Good job blizzard but unless you pay more that $20 deposit at Game you better off buying a copy from dicksmith or BigW

  • Props to Blizzard,it is quite sad however that they will take a loss on this. Is stayed away from pre-orders and online orders with GAME (only on the spot transactions) for this very reason that their future has been uncertain for a couple of months and I was afraid this would happen. Unfortunately not everyone was aware of their troubles in the media and I hope that not too much was lost on other orders than D3.

  • -6

    LOL

    It's a lost cause, I know. =(
    Couldn't help myself.

    This is not a bargain.

Blizzard are doing something nice. Props to them, great publicity.
But come on… Let's not change the rules just cos something will or won't be seen by a many people.

    • +2

If there's this many +ve votes for a bargain, why should it matter?

    • +2

It's a bargain for anyone who put a deposit with Game and would otherwise end up paying full price plus their deposit.

      No rule change required.

(I should note that I won't be buying Diablo III until I've worked my way through a few other games in my library (and it's dropped in price a bit)).

  • Seems like a good opportunity to sell a few more units

    • I don't think this will actually get them anymore sales considering it's only a deal aimed at people who pre-ordered it in the first place.

People are pissed off at GAME, not at Diablo 3.

  • great job blizzard!
glad to see youre not becoming too much like activision!
