    Tasted like caramel milk.

    Instead just…

Just cook some loose black tea leaves in sugar on the stove. Add cold water and bring to a boil and add milk and you get a better product even with "shit" tea as the tea will be stronger no matter what. Add ice to make it a cooled/iced version. Don't forget to cook some pearls if you add a cheap pack of these for $2.63

    • Oh you actually make the tea with sugar in it? Is that how they make it so sweet?

      • This recipe would be for the “roasted tea” version. If you don't want a “roasted” flavour (like matcha taste) you can just pre-make read and use it instead of water and add it to a caramel.

  • Wow I bought this for $20.39 last year in October. I must've been desperate!

    authentic Taiwan origin

It’s a YES from me - smashes that + button.

    🇹🇼❤️

  • I wouldve been sold if it came with the cup

    • +1

Go to maccas ask for a cup of water.

      • +3

they do the dodgy and give me the small cup

        • +1

i think at this point ur the one doing the dodgy

    • -3

So you prefer to contribute more disposable landfill instead of just using a cup you have at home?

  • +2

Got some from last deal. They are ok, brew 1/2 cup of earl grey (instead of hot water) pour every thing into a large beer glass as instructed and stir, fill up with ice add a shot of milk and let the ice melt.

The Lipton ones you can get in Woolies/Coles are legit the best DIY kits you can get - pearls are actually chewy, the tea is strong and sweet so you can easily dilute to make more if you want.

Tried a bunch of others like Avalanche and a few Taiwanese kits and weirdly Lipton have actually nailed it in comparison.

    • why the negs? LOL

      maybe people dont like lipton

not a drinker of bubble tea for me… i might buy one once a year

      • -1

I didn't neg, but probably cos they said they tried a few Taiwanese kits and sounds like they've never even tried the one in the deal.

Avalanche is just terrible but they were one of the first brand available for DIY bubble tea.

These are great if you hate your tastebuds

    • -2

Or perhaps if COVID killed your tastebuds? Fortunately not in my case :)

    • +1

Yep, all of these "instant" milk tea packets are awful.

  • +6

I've tried Lipton, Avalanche (awful), Chatime, Bubble Me, and J Way.

To me, J Way is hands down the best. Lipton's tea is alright but the pearls are unsweetened. Chatime's tea is awful. Bubble Me is not bad, but J Way is the most balanced IMHO.

    • If I recall correctly, Lipton's pearls have the best texture.
To me the Chatime and Avalanche ones are more like jelly - yuk!
      Haven't tried the others.

      • Yup the Lipton pearls do have good texture, but they aren't sweet. It's healthier but normal pearls are sweet.

  • This or BBT Club?

    • +3

All bbt club got going for it is a slick marketing campaign

    • +1

      BBT Club wasn't that good.

  • Which name is more popular…Boba Tea or Bubble Tea?

    • +2

bubble tea in aus, boba was used cause its also childish slang for breasts

pearl milk tea is more direct translation tho from chinese name

      • Boba referring to large bubble / breasts.

  • how does this compare to Chatime? I don't mind Chatime packs but that was a 7/10 from me

    • It’s the 3/10 that Chatime is missing. Mix them together and you have perfection

  • How much sugar?

    • 4th image on the listing has the nutritional information.

    • 24 g's or 6 spoons :/

  • No idea what I just bought. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • ordered last time on sale, very tasty

  • I recommend the Avalanche ones from New Zealand.
    They have zero sugar ones.

    • +3

You might be the only person I've seen who likes them.

  • Bought this last year, and it was absolutely horrible!

  • maybe a little too late for a review, 3 days ago i bought all the brands from woolies to see which is best:

    from best to worse flavour:

    cha time
    avalanche
    Lipton

from easiest to prepare to hardest and most annoying:
    cha time
    avalanche
    lipton

how does this compare to the rest?

    • I agree tipton is worst, peach was nasty

      • Did you have their original bubble tea or just the peach one?

        • milk one, original coffee flavour, the pearls didnt even soak properly based ont he time they put on the box, need to microwave the much longer

    • how does this compare to the rest?

      For me:

      J Way
      Bubble Me
      Lipton
      Chatime

Tap water and off-flavour powdered milk with gooey bits
      Avalanche

    • 1) Chatime - 7/10
      2) Lipton - 6/10
      3) Bubble Me - 4/10
      4) Avalanche - 3/10

Note: I add milk to them instead of water

      • aha, interesting imma try this

  • The boxes at Costco are much better, the 3:15pm ones and the Oolong ones.
