Corporate Discount for Hotels Extend to Family?

My workplace gives corporate discount for most hotel chains and as I'm headed on a trip with my family soon (including my parents and sister's family) and am making a booking for everyone, does corporate discount generally extend to everyone under the booking on the same trip? I always assumed so but wanted to make sure so I called Hyatt and the lady in reservation told me it's for 1 room with the employee only - is that really the case? Has anyone travelled and made booking on several rooms using the corporate rate before? I can easily make the booking using the discount code for multiple rooms.

TIA!

Read the T&Cs on the discount. Usually once it's booked, there shouldn't be an issue.

    • Thanks - there's not much details on my company page with the offering, and the hyatt website only says "Valid company ID required at check-in".
Just worried that I'll make all the booking etc and only to be told on the spot at check in that I cant use my rate for every rooms (as we are booking 5 rooms in total)

  • For Marriot I make liberal use of the corporate code, I've never actually been asked for proof though.

Hyatt (Park Hyatt Sydney) when I used to travel for work was really anal about it but not sure if that was simply because of that particular hotel or was the same across all Hyatt properties. They'd ask us to show work ID and proof that travel is for work etc.

Haha really? When I was used to work for the same company as you, I used the Park Hyatt in Sydney on the odd occasion for personal trips. I paid with the corporate card, but didn't claim that back and paid that portion of the bill personally. They never asked for any additional proof, work ID or similar - although this is going back a few years now.

    • Same here, they asked for proof for my stay at Park Hyatt as well last year! I just wonder if for a group booking, they'd refuse the rate at check-in.

Doesn't that give you your answer already?

You might be able to book other rooms with the code, but don't be upset when the person you're booking for rocks up and the hotel rejects them because they can't produce a work ID.

    • I am planning to book for my family under my name for each of the rooms. More like wanted to confirm the definition for corporate rate use for booking for family on the same trip. The lady i spoke to on the phone seemed unsure herself when she said that.

      • I booked the Hyatt in Melbourne before and they did ask for my work ID at the time of check-in.

I booked other hotels overseas like Singapore and Hong Kong and they didn't ask.

Sounds like you've been told what the rule is.

Whether someone enforces that then becomes the question … and then what's the downside if the bookings get cancelled/rates not honoured.

Sounds like a risk-based play my friend.

    • Haha yeah - the lady was actually very unsure herself over the phone and that's why I wondered if that's usually the case. Yea would def be a bummer if booking not honoured on the spot eeek

  • Tell us the code and we’ll try it out for you
