JBHifi is dodgy with naming it $79/m plan when it is $99/m + $20 monthly credit.

  • So you get 1k gc to use on purchasing the handsets and they become free or those discounted prices right?
(I.e. you dont get both 1k gc, and a phone for free)

    • +2

It's gc OR deduction on phones with a plan

      Not both

Tried live chat twice for the $10 port-in, will keep trying but have been rejected so far as when they check the account they keep telling me it's a JB plan and I need to talk to JB about port-in credit.

Seeing as it's already discounted $20 a month, I don't think port-in credit will be applicable for this plan.

Heads up to anyone thinking about this plan taking into consideration the $10/month port-in welcome credit.

    • I got my $10 a month port in credit today !! Keep trying.

      • Oh wow! Congrats, can you share the transcript? Any tricks?

        • I would also like to know this as I signed up today too and was hoping to save a bit more.

      • Did you just keep restarting a live chat on Telstra?

      • Did you ask for anything or say anything special? I've been knocked back twice..

        • I called them after a conversation on the chat line. I wasn't able to get the additional $10 off a month, but they did give me a $120 credit on my account. I was also able to migrate my old number to the new plan. I'm actually really happy with how it all turned out.

  • Bonus data ends 30/06/22.

Am I reading this right? The 300GB reverts to 200GB at the end of June? So for the life of the plan, it's effectively $80/month for 200GB?

    • the offer is until end of June - but will be given for life of plan, at the end of 24 months, the $79pm reverts to $99pm - basically a time to change plans..

    • My understanding is they are saying here that they will stop offering the 300GB plan at the end of June, somoene else mentioned as much in the last post.
As in next month, this offer will show as 200GB, but everyone signing up now, will be on 300GB for the duration of their plans.

Went in this morning and you can actually get a 256GB s22 for $0, not just the 128GB.
Also, the guy asked if I saw it on OzB haha.

  • Sent the wife down today to sign me up to a new contract with the S22 Ultra 256GB, They misread my email in store, and have signed me up to the wrong product (New number on a 24 Month contract with $1000 Gift Card). There seems to have been some confusion and they thought I'd just use the gift card to then purchase a phone outright. I understand I can do this, but it will cost me $849 out of pocket rather than the advertised $399).

I sent her back to get the phone instead of the gift card, as I had asked, with a pdf printout of the $399 on the page, and the salesman and his manager explained that they couldn't do that as it was for port in customers only. Apparently the manager also said the contract also can't be cancelled? No idea how that is possible.

My understanding is either they never should have issued the gift card as a new customer doesn't qualify as 'port in', or I do in fact qualify for the phone offer. And if I do qualify, which the issuing of the gift card would imply, then why can't they just cancel the contract, and re-issue the correct one with the phone.

I'm waiting for a callback from JB Hifi phonedesk at the moment to try and sort this out. Anyone got any ideas?

      Anyone got any ideas?

      Send your wife again

    • Update, so you could get the $1000 gift card on a new number or port in, but the phone on a plan options are only available to port in customers.
Also, both Telstra and JB Hifi confirmed that they could not cancel the new contract. The Telstra lady in store told my wife cancelling my old recurring plan and moving my old number onto the new plan shouldn't be a problem.

Our best option for the phone was to do the trade in option of an old Samsung A21s (originally cost about $299 maybe 2 years ago) which netted us a 30% discount (+$20), and with the gift card we ended up paying about $320 or so out of pocket for the S22 Ultra 256Gb. So cheaper overall, but lost a backup phone that wasn't currently in use to make the deal work. Now my Note 8 can finally be retired, it's had a good innings, will be kept as a backup. Don't quote me on the numbers, going on second hand information here, and haven't seen a receipt.

      • Update on numbers,
        Initial Cost - $1849
        Trade in Discount - $554.70
        E-Gift Card (Phone Bonus) - $20.00
        Gift Card - $1000.00
Total out of pocket - $274.30

        • Nice work Goonsie!

Any chance do you know if these plans can have the added $5pm sim for share data?

          • @MonkeyMagic3: I'm not 100% sure, haven't even seen the phone yet I'm 1000km away.
I believe someone answered this question earlier though.

      • Hey mate, with this bit: (The Telstra lady in store told my wife cancelling my old recurring plan and moving my old number onto the new plan shouldn't be a problem.), does that mean the number you currently have, you can move to the plan you got on this deal, and get the $1000 gift card, without any fees or weird stuff involved?

I cant get the phone i want straight out, but I might be able to get it this way if I can get the gift card, and put the new plan on my current account, then swap numbers from my old plan to the new one, like I think you did, if I read it correctly haha.

        • +1

If possible I think this is the way to go too Keats!

        • This is what I'm hoping yes. Same number for 22 years, no idea what I'll do if I have to change now, would be too hard basket.

    • I had a very similar issue happen to me. I specifically asked, can I get the phone bonus with a new number (already existing customer with Telstra) and he said yes. So we went ahead did all the paperwork and it was only after they had started the contract they realised it was for port in only.
Thankfully the manager made an exemption since it was an error of the store staff and went ahead with the deal. I paid $200 extra for the S22+.

I'm frustrated for you that you had to trade in when the staff should outline exactly what you're signing up for prior.

      • In my case, since I wasn't there in store, and my wife was sorting it out in my absence, I believe it was more of a misunderstanding with what I was asking for. In the email I linked in the ozbargain post, and at the very top of the page it had the 1000 gift card… I guess they assumed from there that was what I wanted. In the end it has worked out, though I believe the 5% off code never got applied and I may have missed out on some savings there.

  • whats this instore only business =/

  • S21's are SOLD OUT

  • Ahh i missed the boat as i just plan to switch in upcoming weeks.. now will get only $900 gc isnt it
