    • Glad I wasn't the only one that experienced this.

    • Mine (S21 Ultra) has reception dropouts all the time. It's putting me off Samsung phones.

      • I upgraded to a s22 then a fold 3… both no issues… it's just the s21 was a bad phone.

        • Yeah, read some bad experiences about the S21. That's probably why they had those huge discounts right after its launch last year.

  • +2

Look like people don't read. S21 is bad deal. S22 is better. Snapdragon over exynos.

  • +3

Wow, so much hate for the S21. I thought this was a great price to upgrade my S10+ but I'm starting to reconsider.
3 years in the S10 isn't laggy and battery has only just started draining a bit faster than usual.
Sounds like the S21 experiences are "it began badly and continued to go downhill"
A pass for me, the community has spoken. I just hope I don't regret it…

    • I would wait for s22 myself

    • +1

Don't get s21… from my own personal experience

  • Any Galaxy experts here?

I'm trying to figure out the differences between the two phones below. Am I missing anything?

    S21 5G S21 FE 5G
    Exynos 2100 Snapdragon 888
    6.2" screen 6.4” screen
    4000mAh battery 4500mAh battery
Better rear cameras Better front camera
    • +1

S21FE uses Exynos chip for Australian stock. No Snapdragon. Meanwhile, the under screen fingerprint scanners are different, S21 is faster and accurate.

      • Thank you. S21 5G seems like the better buy then and it's cheaper.

    • Don't get the s21 exy… get the fe of you really need s21

  • The S22 128GB is showing up as $1249 for me (same price as the 256GB), how does it work out to be $0 upfront after the voucher?
Edit: Nevermind, found where it says the prices you've posted (for anyone else wondering, it's stated here - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore)

  • Never done a price match but is it possible for a further 5% off if you get Officeworks to match it first thing tomorrow morning?

    • If OW has stock in-store. Currently showing out of stock online.

  • Do these deals work when porting a new number into a Telstra small business account?

    • Didn't work earlier today. Had to be a personal account.

  • Can we do an early telstra plan cancel and pay less on the upfront devices? Would love to get a cheap surface 8, the full minimum price isn't all that great though and I don't need a monthly plan

    • +1

So according to the plan terms you'll get charged an $800 exit fee which would bring the final price to $1049, not bad. If you get a voucher they will also hit you with another $800 but since this deal is specifically for a device and no voucher is given I wouldn't think that would be the case.

Also be aware that this doesn't include the keyboard or pen, so there is some extra cost involved. Currently HN have this exact i5 Surface bundled with keyboard for $1448 but it is the old gen keyboard and no pen. So getting it through JB is still by far the better deal.

      • …so they changed the plan terms this morning, full cancel fee is now $1188 so not really a deal anymore.

  • Please tell me I’m not the only one waiting for $500 12 month come back : (

    • What’s wrong with 1000 n 24 months?

What were you paying p/m for 12months?

      • It's $79 per month, not $59 with $500 gift card. Sad!

      • $500 gift card 12 month deal was $59 per month.

  • anybody have any insider info on when the next 10% off macs will be at JB or TGG?

    • Most likely one coming up for EOFY sales

  • +1

The Fitbit Versa 3 is available at a great price (<$200)

  • Hi OP, bonus 900 GC now, not 1000

    • They’re advertising on TV that it’s $1,000.

    • $1000 gift card is only for tomorrow
If you miss that it’ll be $900 until 8th June

      • +1

i see, thanks, by the way, is it only for swithing into Telstra ? Not open a new number etc

        • Based on what’s on the JB deal description it says “when you switch your number to Telstra”

You can request a new number and later just go to the Telstra live chat to ask for your old number to port over

          • @BargainsGrabber: Sorry just to confirm, I’m currently with Telstra. I could get this deal by opening a new account, then l ask Telstra to port my old number over to this new account and close off the old account?

  • +3

You could use the S21 deal to get a ~15.7% discount on a Pixel 6, which is better than the recent 10% storewide offer (though obviously not as good as the previous Telstra offer, but this may be suitable for those who aren't able to use that).

    • Purchase the S21 for $592.80
    • Trade it in via the JB Hifi link on the Pixel 6 page to receive $750 worth of "credit" towards a Pixel 6
      • $450 of trade-in value (as at time of posting)
      • $300 discount on a Pixel 6 device

    $750 - $592.80 = $157.20 value

    $999 - $157.20 = $841.80 = ~15.7% discount

Obviously there is further opportunity to reduce for those fortunate enough to have discounted gift cards, as you can benefit both on the S21 purchase and then again on the Pixel 6 purchase (theoretically, 10% on both purchases would net a further $131.10 saving, boosting the overall discount to 28.9%).

    • where can I find info on bonus top-up vouchers offers for trade-ins?

  • +1

What do people think of the S22? Thinking of switching from Optus to Telstra after the whole Optus Sport price increase and needing some Internet anyways for my place.

    • -1

What do people think of the S22?

I don't get why you would choose an inferior ecosystem over Google or Apple who wrote the book on this stuff and offer better services out of the box? Samsung Internet? OneUI? Samsung Store? Bixby? Just extra inferior bloat for no benefit.

  • -1

Hi guys, for the $1000 Gift Card , how often do you have this kind of deal ?

  • These Port in only deals, would they also honour this on a brand new signup?

Considering this, then getting Telstra to transfer old number onto new plan.
Work away on a remote mine site, and Telstra really is the only option for me, and can't go 30days without being signed up.

I was under the impression this used to work at least.

    • Pick up a prepaid Vodafone Sim, activate it and then use that to sign up if you want a new number.

  • Can you keep your old number when porting in?

    • +4

That's the whole point of porting in isn't it?

      • +1

It's the definition of porting :)

  • i heard samsung phones from jb hifi use telstra firmware rather than unlocked hence wait longer for software update. Is this true?

    • I bought a S21 from telstra and it gets normal updates same time as they drop for everyone else, haven't heard of telstra firmware for a decade?

  • +1

Can you get an iPhone instead of the various android phones when you go on the plan? Presumably they will charge full price for the iPhone (less $1000 gift card)

    • You get $1000 gift card to spend all whatever you like, anything at JB Hifi

  • Anyone knows if Samsung phones with this deal would be locked-unlocked?

    • +1

The Samsung S21 here are nothing to do with the Telstra plan.

S22 from the plan not very sure.

      • +1

From previous OP comments, usually it’s a separate transaction that JB staff put through, meaning the phone should be network unlocked

You basically just grab a Samsung S22 and the staff will put it through as $0 upfront

  • So how good a deal is $79p/m for 24 months with $1000 GC?

    • +2

Very average for someone who doesn't need 300gb per month.
They're simply enticing people with the GC and putting them on plans they don't need.
If you do actually need 300GB data allowance per month then it's not a bad deal.

      • +1

Very average for someone who doesn't need 300gb per month.

Exactly this. Work out how much data you use per month then work out if you need anything over the base plans.
I was using less than 5GB/month so switch to long life prepaid. On the Telstra 12 month recharge you get 12.5GB/month for $25/month with unlimited calls and SMS. It's hard to see why 80%+ of the population would need more than that.

  • +1

Harvey norman has the s21 for $624 plus $100 gift card!!

    • HN only has the Grey variant tho :/

      • What's the difference again?

Edit: just realised you meant the colour

    • +1

Would you really buy from Uncle Harvey

  • Is there a $20 port in credit??? :)))

    • Some get $10, some get $20, YMMV again :)

  • All the S21 phones seem to be in store only so can't even apply the code? Doesn't say in store only for the grey 128GB but I can't add it to cart.

Also the grey 256GB shows as $1349.

    • The Grey 256GB was $640.30 when I checked yesterday
They must’ve updated the price recently

  • Very tempted to get the $1,000 GC deal but can't get over the fact that I will be wasting 250GB of data per month. Wish they would offer the same deal for $69/m with only 50GB per month.

    • I’m tempted to get this + a data share sim and get a 4/5g modem for house hold internet.

      • Yeah, for a low usage family that would work. Double up as 4G/5G home internet.

  • Any thoughts on getting a Pixel 6 Pro with this deal? I'm due for an upgrade as my Pixel 3's camera recently stopped working and my current data plan expires in less than a month. I only ever use 10-15gb a month though.

    • If you don’t want to be locked in for 24 months on Telstra, you can buy it outright $999 at Telstra tomorrow (part of Telstra Day deals)

  • why go for a Samsung? has anyone tried OnePlus phones…. great phones with superb battery life…. opening apps, navigation etc is super fast

    • …with no Australian warranty.

  • So 2 items I was looking at last night have suddenly become delivery only.
Here's 5% off but you have to pay for delivery. Ok bro.
    JB are shady AF.

    • Not shady if the stock in stores are below threshold limit. If they can't guarantee you the stock for pick up, what would be worse? Honouring the price so you can get it later once more stock is available or you going to a store to pick up, only to tell you it is unavailable because of stock discrepancy?

      • Turns out it was a system glitch. Stock is showing again.

        Sorry JB, my bad.

    • +1

Ditto on this. I just called the 135244 for a JB Direct and some dude named Nick being pain in the ass

I’m trying to get a price match on a Switch game from Amazon and he said it’s out of stock when I can clearly see stock online via check availability

      • +1

        Luckily his name wasn’t Dick

  • +1

I spoke with Jbhifi via chat and they said you either have to choose the $1000 gift card or the phone for $0, you cannot have both.

  • +1

Does anyone know if you can get $10 credit from Telstra on the JB plan?

  • Does anyone have tried getting a new number under the existing account and transferring the service to old number?

    • Oh yes, this is something I'm curious as well!

    • +1

I asked about this, i have a spare number I can get the plan on, and then wanted to change my current number over to the new plan.

Both JB and telstra have told me no I cant, which is a shame, as I want a new phone, but my old number.

One store I asked said there might be a chance to keep my current number straight out, since its telstra business to normal telstra, but not sure.

Will go instore at lunch and try lol.

      • Please keep up posted Keats! :)

        • Will do, ETA hopefully ~1 hour haha

        • +2

Well, lunch was both successful and unsuccessful, I acquired subway, but no new phone.

Tried porting my current Telstra number, no luck there. I can port my Lebara number, but no guarantee I can change it to my current good number after I get the plan, so I don't want to risk that. JB guy said I might be able to get Telstra to swap them instore, but its iffy and depends on getting a nice rep, so for that alone I don't want to risk it.

Also looked at the cancellation fees, and the plan plus device cancellation worked out to about $1800, which for the s22 ultra i was looking at, is 75 dollars less than the phone itself, so very much not worth the headache sadly.

Going to try another store tonight, but I think it'll be the same sad story as this one.

          • @keats1379: Will try my luck later after work. Thank you for the update.

          • @keats1379: Bit the bullet at Jb hifi broadway Sydney. Got a new number under same account and rep said to try with customer service. Otherwise, can easily port back to old number after 30 days. 1000$ is too hard too pass.

            • @Fredfloresjr: Oh nice!

So if im reading that correctly, you can swap the new plan you just got onto your old number after a month? If thats the case i can put up with 1 month of having 2 numbers for this big of a saving haha.

Let me know how you go with it

              • @keats1379: Also was that a new number setup or a port in to get the GC?

                • @MonkeyMagic3: I'm reading it as a whole new number tbh

                  • @keats1379: Correct. Jb staff moved my old number to prepaid and gave me a new number for this promo.

                    • @Fredfloresjr: Oh right and that’s when they mentioned you can port your prepaid number over to your new $79 contract?

                    • @Fredfloresjr: ah right, and then they were able to put your old number on the new plan? or did you lose your old number.

    • It's a real PITA these days. Way easier to port out / port in IMO

  • Hmmm been with optus for 2 months on a monthly plan. Still have my s20 which has really bad reception and battery life. What to get zfold or s22 ultra???

  • So…what is the ozbargainers choice of phone these days? What deal should I be looking out for?

    • +1

So…what is the ozbargainers choice of phone these days?

You may as well be asking which religion is the best…

  • +1

Just went to sign up with the idea of getting the gift card but pulled out due to a) plan cost is $99 with $20 discount for 24 months. Ergo unlikely to get additional port in credit from Telstra and b) JB offered plans won’t data pool with another Telstra plan sim.

As I don’t need a new phone this isn’t the plan for me but I am on the hunt as I do need to leave Voda before my plan jumps $40 at the end of this month. Currently get $540gb across 2 sims for $72.50pm which gives me mobile + heaps of data for my 4G modem

    • Thanks mate, I'm on the same boat. Saved myself a trip to JB
