[VIC] Price Locked until Aug 2023 @ Lumo Energy

741

Wholesale electricity prices have gone through the roof, and smaller retailers are beginning to pass those increases through to customers.

Lumo still have good rates and allow you to lock the price through to 31 August 2023 with a fixed term contract. No exit fees apply.

Rates will vary by area, for Jemena VIC I got quoted:

Service to Property (c/day) 85.800
Anytime (c/kWh) 18.898

Additionally, get $70 cashback from cashrewards via econnex if you're a new customer to lumo: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/lumo-energy . It's not possible to stack a referral code with the cashback.

Offer is available on gas too ($42 cashback) but the quoted rates for me were uncompetitive. YMMV.

Cashback offer expired, still possible to sign up directly. Use the referral system for $50 gift card.

Referral: random (70)

VIC and SA only: Referrer and referee each get $25 eGift card after signing.

    • Globird prices have gone up

Their prices have skyrocketed on their current market offer compared to the deal at the start of Feb 2022.

They can only change their price once per year, which will most likely be in Jan 2023.

      • Only my gas rate with Globird increased in Feb. I just confirmed with Globird that they will be reviewing my electricity rate in July/Aug.

  • When will this expire?

Will a credit check be done?

    • Not sure re expiry, but an enquiry has hit my credit report.

      • damn, i got hit with it too

  • Trying to sign up but it keeps boxing me into a shit deal with Powershop.

    • Just sign up directly and use someone's referral code

  • Followed the link, put the postcode and answered some questions.

But at the comparison page there is no Lumo Energy as an option?

    Anyone knows why? Thanks.

    • Sold out. Ran out of electricity

    • They probably realised they've got a great offer and they don't actually need to be paying to get customers to join. You could try signing up directly with a referral code for a $50 gift card.

Just got the letter from Elysian and rates are going from 17.6c to 52.2c on the 20th (Melbourne outer east - SP Ausnet) - so suffice to say, I jumped on Lumo straight away!

    • Wow thanks. I’ll do it today, been sitting in the fence so far.

    • same… my rates going up from 12.5c to 38c. with Elysian. Pretty much an invitation to F&^% off.. signed up to Lumo

    Just joined and transferred complete.
Good rates but terrible website. No energy monitoring or general web/app usage other than setting up dd and viewing bills. You can change to monthly billing by calling support.

    • How long did it take to churn? I signed up to change to lumo but no comms from them even after a week.

      • Took a bit longer than a week.
You won't get any comms till they start processing the application.
It's all manual by the looks of things.

    • You should be able to access a usage portal through your network provider, which will give you daily usage info.

  • is there anyway to specify NMI when signing up, our unit number is different than the supply address and last time when I tired to sign up with LUMO they send an offer with new meter installation to the billing address, so I have called them and cancelled the switch (call center guy couldn't understand the issue).

    • +1

I had a similar issue. When they are unable to resolve your address they will contact you to ask for your NMI via email and SMS.

  • Lumo is asking for referee account number and name for signing up to obtain referral credit when I tried to sign up over phone.when I tried online account number is asked instead of referral code??please advise

    • +1

      That`s correct,
Signup via phone requires account number & name of the referee while online signup is easier and only requires referee account number (account number is the referral code).

If you need assistance with phone signup msg me

      • Thanks will pm u

  • I'm in the process of switching from Globird - where I was on a TOU tariff, but Lumo have emailed through documentation confirming a single rate tariff.

The online chat rep said I need to wait until the switch is complete to change the tariff to Lumo's TOU. Anyone else had a similar situation?

I'm worried that if I then go to switch to their TOU tariff later on, they won't honour their locked fixed rate.

    • They've probably just gotten confused about your tariff, changing retailers shouldn't effect which tariff you're on.

Tell them they have your tariff wrong and offer to show them a current bill as evidence. Or just wait and they should figure it out when the switch completes.

      • They've fixed it up now. Not sure if it was my email to them, or if they figured it out themselves.

  • any referral code shared here?

    • Yes, you should see on top of the page referral links and click on random to get a referral code.
You can even add your ref code to it :)

Lumo increased their rates and looks like no rate lock for an year too. Thought of signing up y'day night but was lazy :(

Kogan is next in line but soon they are going to increase rates too. Anyone with Kogan here who can confirm if they received information on new rates from August.

    • Massive jump too.

For United energy in my area:

Supply up to $1.07 from 75c
kWh up to 23.xx from 19.xx

    • Big jump in the Ausnet area too

      Old:
      Service to Property (c/day) 93.xx
      Peak (c/kWh) 29.xx
      Off Peak (c/kWh) 16.xx

      New:
      Service to Property (c/day) 129.940
      Peak (c/kWh) 40.810
      Off Peak (c/kWh) 19.649

Just spoke to Kogan and AGL, both said they said going to increase the rates but could not say when or how much. I have had a look at Vic gov energy compare website but that wasn't too helpful. Looking to move elec and gas, in Ozbargain's view whats the best deal currently in Victoria?

  • +1

Hunting around too… looks like Kogan/Powershop are the lowest, followed by EnergyLocals. Neither of which have lockins.

Should I just wait for everyone to do their price rise, and then compare?

  • I was expecting that there are cheaper options than the AGL Gas that I am paying, but the comparison site says that only Tango is better by $50 for the whole year. Not sure what will happen after a rate rise. Is that the experience for others?

  • Damn, just saw this thread and wanted to know how much rates have gone up since.

Picked a random postcode in Jemena to compare against OP

    Service to Property (c/day) 85.800 is now 111.144 (+29%)
    Anytime (c/kWh) 18.898 is now 22.286 (+18%)

Wish I saw this earlier. About to lock in some rates now.

anyone actually get their lumo referral gift cards? i referred 3 people and used a referral and haven't got anything

    • Nope I haven't gotten anything yet either. Actually forgot about it

      • Same here

        • Mine just came via email today. Not sure which friend it was for, but I think I referred two people

          Edit-

It tells you who it was for.
This one seems to be from a fellow ozbargainer.

          Double edit-

Just realised I got two. Second one was from the mrs

    • Did yours come through today?

I got two and the Mrs got one

      • not yet, hopefully soon

  • +1

Got my gift card emailed today

    • Did you have any issues redeeming it? I tried to redeem for a coles gift card but the email they sent with the card has a dead link

      • +1

I redeemed for a Wish GC, didn't have any issues.
