SIM with Long Expiry with Advanced Features

Hi All,
I just found my new work place doesn’t include mobile phone plans. I am looking for long expiry SIM card with some or all options. Currently my number is with boost with 28 days expiry. I think I missed out Amaysim TA deal.
Need a prepaid SIM with most cost effective option.

1) Wifi calling and texting is very important to me. Can someone confirm if Amaysim has this option or not?
2) eSIM would be a great feature to have
3) Apple Watch add on will be awesome
4) I work from home a lot and huge data is not necessary but need reliable service when I’m travelling.

Can you please suggest which plan or SIM I should get?

Q1. Amaysim does not support VoWifi. But Gomo does and they are a low cost subsidiary of Optus. Coincidentally, they also support eSim, VoWifi and VoLTE. But they do not do long expiry plans.

Q2. eSIM — rolling out to Telstra MVNO's slowly but all the big three providers will have eSim — Telstra, Optus, and Voda.

    Status:
    Woolworths mobile esim: YES
    ALDI Mobile: Not yet
    Boost Mobile: Not yet.

Q3. Telstra or Optus or Vodafone. Visit here for discussions on pricing. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/572924

Q4. Telstra has the best coverage usually.

    • Any word on Aldi or Amaysim for 5G? I read that Telstra were expanding 5G to MVNO's.

  • eSIM would be a great feature to have

Yep. Make sure your telco supports porting out SMS confirmation. It'll be mandatory after EOFY

    • The story in the link is not a port out. The hacker had converted the physical SIM to an eSIM at an Optus store.
As for when porting out, I thought all carriers now had SMS confirmation when the port is submitted.

  • Boost has some 180 and 365 day pre-paid plans also.

  • Thank you guys. So Boost has the best cheapest deal? No eSIMs on boost yet but can EOFY is few weeks away.

Are they going to provide eSIM in a month for Apple Watch and iPhone?

I’m already with boost 28 day plan can I opt in for a new plan and get the $99 /year plan?

Also I’m Telstra ex employee I get 5% off total bill but they are so expensive. I don’t like Vodafone Vodafail they are terrible.

    • No one supports Apple Watch eSim on prepaid and it's not available from anyone but the big 3 carriers.

If you want eSim and all the remaining features you can buy a Telstra Prepaid $300 plan which has less data than boost but does support eSim and advanced features (except international roaming). If signing up with Telstra prepaid be sure to port to a different carrier rather than directly from boost as lots of things can go wrong moving directly.

      • With Telstra prepaid $300 can I get add on Apple Watch and eSIM?
I can’t find the info on their website.

        • No. There are no prepaid plans from any provider that support number sharing with eSim on Apple Watch. This is an exclusive feature to post paid plans from the big 3 telcos.

If you don't need number sync you can pay truphone for a family setup sim (different number) that will work on Apple watch regardless of what you do with the phone. https://go.truphone.com/plans/AU

          • @stirlo: Thanks a lot. Do you know if Woolworths mobile has wifi calling? I live near Sydney city. Do I opt in for boost eBay has $200 discount pack or Woolworths?

  • I found cheaper boost deals on eBay for $236 but I’m already on 28 day boost deal. How do I get into the new SIM with $236 12 month deal?

    • You'll need to port out then port back in on the new starter pack. Not sure if there are any time limits.

Woolworths is the cheapest if you shop there.

You get 10% off a shop once a month. For me it works out as free.

    • Wow this is eye opener. I always shop in Woolies in fact just coming from there. I just read your post saw online that they have $150 = 100Gb plus $20 off for eSIM.
Now got few queries on this new technology.
      1) Can I use this on my Apple Watch? I thought you need two eSIM then? I need to be able to take my watch out without the phone and get connectivity.
      2) when I go overseas or plan to use another physical SIM card what happens to the eSIM?
      3) which network are they on Telstra?
      4) do they have an app to check the data usage?
      5) How do you get this for free as mentioned by your post?

      6) can I port my existing number from Boost to Woolies?

  • I’m keen on going with Woolworths eSIM.
Can you please let me know how the service is going to be like on it?

If it’s like boost reception I’m happy man.

  • OMG I was about to get the long expiry Woolworths mobile went and bought the physical sim as it mentions somewhere I need a physical sim to enable eSIM but just to find out now Woolworths mobile do not have wifi calling.

That’s like dealbreaker as wifi calling saved me many times. Boost has wifi calling:(
Anyone knows when if ever Woolworths mobile can get wifi calling?

  • Any updates guys on the above?

  • Can someone please confirm if Woolworths mobile have wifi calling?

    • I guess it’s best to give Ww mobile a call
