never played it but seems a popular game, worth the money?

    • +5

yes, but play the 2016 version first

      • I disagree. There isn’t really a story, just go straight into Doom Eternal. It’s the better game.

It’s still in active development too, apparently a Horde Mode is coming.

          There definitely is a story.

@Tacooo: Demons kill man’s rabbit. Man is angry so shoots demons
That’s all the story I need for DOOM games

        • 2016 is quite different in gameplay. I think it’s worth giving 2016 a go. I like both though Eternal is my preference

        • Hoard mode was added months ago

I much preferred the story and game of the 2016 version. This one caters to the arena-type game fans.

Not to say Eternal is a bad game, just had high expectations from its predecessor.

      • Doom 2016 was a perfect love letter to the original, IMO.

Eternal felt to me like "Doom Arcade". More like Quake 3 Arena, if you're of that age.

      • I didn't play 2016, just Eternal. It was fine and I still thought it was great.

Eternal has better reviews and at the end of the day, you're playing for the gameplay

Game is on Xbox Game pass if you have it.

    • +1

It's not really worth it when it is on gamepass which currently has a deal.

I personally didn't enjoy this game, compared to Doom 2016.

I thought the map design was so-so, but above all I didn't like the gameplay. It's like, they force you to use certain combos with certain weapons in order to defeat certain enemies, as opposed to being able to approach it however you like. It's really hard to explain, but in Doom 2016 there was a lot more freedom to play the game however you wanted to play it.

    • I didn't like 2016, skipped this one. I also tried the VR version on PS4 and still didn't enjoy it.

      • Not much chance you'd like the vr version even if you liked the originals

    • I think it's moreso in the Ancient Gods DLC where that occurs than the main game, and combined with more limited ammo caps.Didn't care for the neon coloured pickups either myself.

As sequel-reboots go, it's still head and shoulders above Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

    • I know what you mean, you need to exploit the enemies weakness to kill them. It limits the types of gun you can use to kill an enemy but I like it because it add more of a challenge

I found the whole ammo/chainsaw issue the biggest frustration, and ultimately why I couldn't get into Eternal.

  • +3

I love DOOM. Both 2016 and Eternal.
2016 was more atmospheric and lore/story oriented. Whereas Eternal is more gameplay based with more of a meh story.

Both great games in their own right. Definitely worth $18 for Eternal, not to mention supporting the amazing dev team.

Multiplayer is mostly dead but there's a thriving modding community breathing new light into the game. I was playing slayer 1v1s with a mate just today (yes it's a thing and it's great).

  • Awesome game!

  • Is this deal over? I'm seeing $54.95?
