Anyone who knows anything about laptops want to comment if this is a good deal i need a new light weight laptop for work/business

    • +2

I have the i7 version of this laptop and use it for work & uni and it has been awesome over the last 2 years. It weighs 1.7kg if that is 'light weight' in your eyes.

    • +2

Setting up one of these at work now for our fleet. It's no ultrabook but it's not too heavy or chunky either compared to the older models that had dvd drives etc in them. Our engineers carry some of these around from site to site and don't complain.

Great value overall. Whack an extra 8gb of RAM in and you'll have a laptop that'll be suitable for a few years at least. https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-PC4-25600-SODIMM-260-Pin-M…

    • I don't mind big laptops, but I think unless you are gaming, 14" laptops are much more portable.

  • I believe this has a spare ram slot if you want to upgrade to more ram.

  • Has anyone actually bought the earbud version of this laptop?

  • +1

Good deal. Mum's laptop just died and this looks like an ideal replacement. I might have to do the actual buying for her though because that website is one of the most user hostile interfaces I've ever seen.

  • How more RAM can you add max? To be honest, I haven't used a Windows laptop for over 10years now been always a Mac lover! Struggling a bit these days with my MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) with 16Gb Ram (ram get saturated easily with a lot of a lot Chrome tabs and Photoshop in use). Need a good deal to get my hands on a 32Gb Ram good work laptop. Would appreciate your recommendations?

    • from description: 8 GB Soldered DDR4-3200,
so if you are looking for 32gb I dont think you can achieve with this model, another 8 and 16gb ram total.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E14 AMD Gen 2 (4500U). It has a 8GB 3200 soldered DIMM. I purchased a 32GB 3200 DIMM and inserted, so I have a total of ~40GB (minus that used for graphics). I believe the E14/E15 are similar under the hood but check for yourself. See page 70 of E14 Gen 3 / E15 Gen 3 Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Note that if you want to use Linux with the ThinkPad AMD CPUs you'll probably want to use the HWE kernel otherwise the function keys and suspend may not work.

      • Are AMD processors any good? They used to heat up a lot. I have been use Intel for last 10 years and have lost touch with AMD

        • +1

It's the opposite these day. Intel are the ones that heat up a lot.

Was looking for a replacement for my trusty T460 as its CPU is struggling these days even with just web browsing, so purchased this and will grab an extra 8GB SO-DIMM when it arrives.

Got an extra $30 off via the live chat that popped up and and was able to use Cashrewards for 15% cashback: https://i.postimg.cc/VvfMK4DY/Screen-Shot-2022-06-09-at-12-22-41.png

    $738.65 all up.

I don't see how a T460 can struggle with web browsing? One of my kids has my old T440s and it's snappy with just an i5-4300u, 8gb ram and SSD. Kid also has 20-30 tabs open at once as well.

You could have been due for a format or some new thermal paste on the cpu. Anyway you should get $250-$270 sale price for your T460 so your changeover isn't so bad! Enjoy your new laptop! ☺️

Struggling with web browsing is a bit of an exaggeration - I could have put up with it, but I'm a fussy person when it comes to computer speed and want everything instantly. I did clean out the fan and re-applied some thermal compound, but it didn't make much difference as it wasn't that dirty in the first place.

    • Just curious if Cashrewards would honor cashbacks made via negotiated deals?

      • +1

This deal isn't negotiated - the EOFY coupon is listed on their website, so it is eligible for cashback.

        • Oh ok. I thought you asked the rep for a tailored pricing. All good then.

          • +1

@a1b2c3e4f52002: I bought this yesterday for the regular $899 (-15% cashrewards = ~$765). The rep in the chat offered $20 off, link was supposed to be send via email within 1-2h. I asked if 15%cashrewards would still apply with that link. Answer was no. Cashrewards also excludes negotiated deals. You may be lucky to get it even with the rep's discount, but I just played it save…

  • Can this laptop output 4k @60hz to external monitors?

  • +4

E15 Gen 4 is $844 via the edu store and E14 Gen 4 is $854 via the edu store.

    • How to get access to edu store?

      • need an edu email for it

    • these prices are for the Gen 4 base model 8gb ram + 256 ssd?

      • +1

Yes, i think its about $900-$1100 for the 16gb ram/512gb ssd variants.

Would be cheaper to get the 8gb and add another ram stick

  • What if we add 16gb stick? Anyone knows the max ram it'll support?

    • +1

      "Memory: Up to 8GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 16GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200"

    • +2

Max ram itll support is 24gb so 8+16

  • +1

    15% cashback at cashrewards atm.

  • Hi

Is this ok for basic RTS gaming like age of empire 4 or StarCraft?

  • Can someone please suggest a SSD upgrade option? I forgot to check whether there are empty SSD slots when I was upgrading the ram lol
