Batteries are still too expensive and are rarely economical.

        • +12

I think you need to do a little bit of research before spouting off rubbish.

            • +5

@kungfuman: show us the maths then.

            • @kungfuman: The only cheap battery systems out there are relatively new and with little proven track record. You wait until people start losing there homes die to lithium fires

        • +1

Lol by the time you hit your ROI your battery will have no warranty and will be dead

        • +2

You are quite incorrect. Batteries still do not pay for themselves in their lifetime.

          • @filmer: ok so you have a self sufficiant system with batteries then? off the grid?

            • @kungfuman: I wasn't aware that you needed to divide the cost of the battery by the savings per day and see that it is not worth the money.

              • @filmer: this all depends on how much electricity you use. And how much you pay per quarter obvisoulsy its not for you if your savings per day aren't even at the level to zero out the cost of a battery.

                • +1

@kungfuman: The more you use the bigger battery you need. The fact is it's a terrible investment from purely a money savings standpoint.

                • +2

@kungfuman: I notice you still haven’t provided any figures that prove the whole industry wrong

  • Don't even think you could get 17 panels on our double roof XD

  • Anyone using the Goodwe inverter and any issues so far? Considering this or a Huawei hybrid inverter.

    • +3

      https://ibb.co/pQM5k1V
Been using one for 3.5 years, no issues.

      • If you don't mind me asking, do you also have the consumption monitor, or is that data output standard?

I'm getting a Goodwe inverter installed in July and tossing up a getting a consumption monitor as well.

        • +1

I got a Goodwe 10KW inverter. Can't speak about the quality longterm (for me that is 15+ years so hard to tell how it will hold up) but it runs fine and is pretty efficient.

I have a MS model and the choice was between the Goodwe and Enphase (which was 40% more expensive for the whole system). My Goodwe has three MPPs so can capture 3 different orientations nicely (North, East and West) - which is great to capture the morning and evening sun when the power demand is the highest in my house.

The Goodwe HomeKit for consumption monitoring is pretty expensive for what it is (I was quoted $400) - so I opted against it and just work with the production monitoring (see screenshot of pgtpgt above or checkout https://www.semsportal.com/home/login (there is a demo available … see top of website) and the free (VIC) Powerpal for usage - gives me enough information to manage my consumption (but proper consumption monitoring is definitely nice to have … think Homeassistant automations ).

          • @mini_wombat: Thanks for the detailed reply!

I too opted for the free powerpal and no consumption monitoring in the end. It would have been an extra $1500-2000 including the switchboard upgrade that would be required in my case.

  • Is it cheaper if I can only get 10 or 12 panels on my roof?

    • +1

      Hi Dngo,

The price depends on a few factors. The STC (federal government rebates) are based on the total wattage of the system (e.g 6.6kW), us as the solar company cover majority of the cost of the system via the STC rebate as well as the $1,400 Vic Government rebate. Further to this depending on the roof itself, single or double story the costs can vary.

By having fewer panels it means your total system wattage is less (12 x 390w = 4.68kW), which will reduce the federal rebate as well.

Ofcourse as we require fewer panels and materials there is a saving there too, it really comes down to the individual case. • I'm planning on getting my roof done in October. Should I look into price locking? Or will there be a better offer by then?

    • +1

Rebates are scheduled to go down every year, and inflation means prices will be higher. So I would argue it's better to lock in now.

Generally, you would be worse off waiting unless there's some massive unannounced subsidy coming down the track, which seems unlikely.

  • How much more would you charge to decommission an old solar system on a single storey house? Have an old 8 panel system on my roof that would need to be removed to make space for more panels.

    • +1

      Hi Gcar304,

To remove 8 panels, inverter, racking and all electrical as well as disposal/recycling of the components the cost will be $150 inc GST. In many cases we are able to send the equipment off to a local recycling facility as oppose to the tip :)

Happy to provide a quote for removal and installation of a new system. Please let me know via PM or click on the above link to request a quote or call us on 03 8322 9999 and we can have a look for you.

The 10 year warranty is a scam.A vast majority of not all solar companies close down and start up under a new name so as to avoid losing money on the warranty. When the inverter carks it any savings you made are lost replacing the inverter.

    • Hi Bennybaubles,

The 10 Year warranty mentioned above is offered by the equipment (inverter/panels) manufacturer directly and they deal with all warranty claims directly regardless of the solar company involved.

We register all systems with the manufacturers and the customer is able to contact the manufacturer directly incase the solar company is no longer in business. This is why we prefer to work with manufacturers who have been business for a number of years and have a local Australian office for warranty purposes. This means that if there are any issues with the particular units both us and the customer can get it sorted asap, and if a replacement unit it required it can be made available asap.

      Hope that helps.

      Have a wonderful long weekend!

      Regards,

      Matt

OP, genuine question, could you tell me:
    * how long have you been in the solar panel industry?
    * how long is the workmanship warranty?

    Thanks

    • -2

I bet they don’t answer your question. Funny that

    • +3

      Hi BigLeviathan,

Hope you are having a good Long Weekend!

  • sent message to you matt, please check

I used these guys back in April for their Easter deal - installation happened promptly (on Good Friday!) and they even organised for the certifier to come by on Easter Monday to check off on the system, as I wanted it finalised before I travelled interstate.

Would have happily taken them up on this cheaper offer however I'm happy with the higher capacity Jinko panels and Sungrow inverter that came with the other deal (and presumably is why that was more expensive than this one).
