Business Shirts and Pants Recommendations

Hi OzB,

I'm starting a new job/career next month which would require me to visit clients, so I'm after recommendations on best places to buy business shirts and pants which are:
1) Comfortable
2) Decent quality
3) Reasonably priced

It looks like the preferred shirts on OzB are T.M Lewins and Charlie Tyrwhitt. I don't believe T.M Lewins exist anymore and CT is online only which makes it hard for me to "try" it on. Based on recent reviews as well it seems CT quality is not what it used to be and their return policy is crap.

Shirts - I would prefer non-iron type as I'm lazy and not paper thin material where you can see through to my nipples.
Pants - Comfort is priority

Thank you in advance for your help!

Shame to hear CT has gone downhill. I bought them for almost 20 years and still have heaps despite now WFH. That reminds me I should donate a lot since I won't have a use for most of them in the foreseeable future.

UNIQLO pants are average, target stretch chinos are the way to go.

I spend a bit more on shirts though, CT mainly.

  • Uniqlo pants and TM Lewin shirts. Then when you have the cash splash out on a decent pair of Goodyear welted shoes and take good care of them.

  • pants:
uniqlo - hands down for comfort, but try it on before you buy because the fit is bit more loose/relaxed.
connor chinos 2 for $100 - if your workplace doesn't require suit pants, chinos with a nice shirt and blazer will look nice

    shirts:
bossini - not many stores left, some shirts breathe better than others. Their cut/fit just suits my body better. Other non-tailored shirts kind of buldge, sag, or fold a lot on me.

  • I like Bell&Barnett shirts… Not sure they have non-iron but I don't actually iron mine. After 30 minutes drive (to work) they seem ironed. Sometimes (rarely) I have to iron the collars if they are rolling. I always fold the sleeves as I hate feeling too warm/hot. The non iron shirts I've tried from other brands, including TM Lewin, made me feel packed in plastic, couldn't breath.

I have a few 100% cotton and others mixed fabric from B&B… I don't iron them essentially because life is too short to waste time ironing shirts 😜

I wash, dry in the dryer (delicate, low temperature, despite recommendations against using dryer) and hang them straight away after drying. I wear slim/tailored fit, which probably helps. I have about 7 shirts which I've been wearing weekly for 3 years. Used to take them for dry cleaning, but since 2020 I've been using the washing machine and the dryer instead of spending ~100 monthly. If you do use the dryer, consider buying a larger number.

    Pants Uniqlo and Academy Brand.
