BP pump says E10 but is actually U91?

I filled up via BPme app from my local BP E10 as they dont have a U91 pump.
On the reciept, it showed up as U91.
Even the milage was similiar to U91 i filled from BP last week.

Are they falsly advertising E10 as U91, im not complaining as its a good thing

I've never been to a service station that doesn't a U91 pump and I've visited a shit load of service stations.

I recall one somewhere in my deep distant past. Was E10 or premium only.

    • I found one when visiting the blue mountains a few weeks ago at Hazelbrook Ampol. Only had 95, 98, E10 and Diesel.

Well I'll be an unkeys moncle

Have you ever shat a load at service stations?

    • There are plenty petrol stations in Sydney have only E10 not 91

      • Must be a NSW thing. Definitely not the normal case in VIC

        • I've seen a few that have E10 and 95 but not 91 when I got to the pumps. I drive through.

I went to a truck stop that only offered diesel, outrageous!

    • Costco QLD warehouses don't offer U91, They offer E10, U98 or Diesel.

They used to have U91 but had to make the change and switch it to E10 due to the mandate of biofuels in QLD. Costco fuel stations only have 3 storage tanks and 3 pumps per bowser so they couldn't just add E10 and have 4 offerings in total.

    • they do exist

      • After this thread I’ve seen a few that don’t seem to have U91

100% there are some BPs that are E10 only and no 91

          Usually the smaller BPs

    • Costco is E10, 98 and diesel only

    Trust the pamp.

I think you spelt pimp wrong

      👏👏👏

  • E10 to U91 mileage isn’t going to show that much different. In my experience it’s no different to the variance between different fills. And that using an app or spreadsheet to track usage not just guessing based on the trip meter.

Ring them up, or go back and ask what’s going on.

  • Are they falsely advertising E10 as U91?
    BP E10 as they don't have a U91 pump

yes its a NSW thing. .about 6 years ago NSw phased out all 91, and made E10 mandatory. So you have buying with ethanol when you thought its was pure '91

    • LOL… Got the source on that tripe? Sounds like utter utter bullshit.

      • +2

There is none because it is bullshit

    • 7/11 up the road has E10 and 91 at the pumps.

I think you are thinking that NSW made E10 mandatory to sell at every servo.

    • How come the 3 servos I regularly use in NSW have both E10 and 91 pumps and they’re different prices?
A quick check of a fuel watch site also shows Belmont NSW has a 7-eleven with E10 and U91 at different prices.

How did you know it was 91 and not E10 or vice versa? You got it lab tested? took a sample and put some water in it to separate the ethanol out? Ran it up on your butt dyno? Or did you just base it on the most scientific test of all, "what your odometer said"??

nah ran the tank to empty, went to the service station use e10 then took a non stop drive to Brisbane, never stopped and went exactly 100
      ran it to empty
got towed back to the service station and repeated with u91.
the u91 got him further towards Brisbane

      • Pigs arse!

Well i filled E10 but the reciept says U91

  • E10 is of course 94RON in Australia.

But I’m sure this will not help the OP.

    • Expected the negs from the morons who can’t google.

      Coolz.

  • Petrol Spy app shows 91 prices when you search for E10 if the station doesn't have E10 Yes there's a small icon saying it's 91 and not E10 but it's easy to miss and you assume it's E10 unless you look carefully. The app shouldn't show the servo if they don't stock that type of fuel. I think this is what happened to you

  • Not a good thing, E10 is higher octane than 91. I had my car tuned on E10 and if I put 91 in it instead it would be on struggle street.

    • -1

My car is also tuned E10 , if i put U98 it would be on the F&F lane.
Not this long weekend double demerits though

I wouldn’t be happy with this. My car has RON95 minimum, but I often give it E10 as its RON94 minimum.
Was there nothing on the pump to let you know?

  • E10 fuel is often just U91 with NO ETHANOL but it CAN contain up to 10% maximum ethanol for the supposed saving. It depends on the cost and availability of ethanol and I know of no way to know if its got ETHANOL in it or not, so best to surmise it does IMO. Often U91+10% Ethanol is also sold as E95 (e10) because it has a higher RON rating.

The other con for fuel is U97 fuel as its U91+additive's (undisclosed ingredient list of mostly cleaners) ~ it makes little difference as most engines are happy with U91 but we should probably standardise on U95 and get rid of both U91/U97 as well as BAN ethanol in fuel totally. Like we did when we got rid of the fraud of STANDARD and SUPER back in the day

  • The reason E10 should have a higher octane rating is because the blended ethanol increases the overall octane rating - supposedly 94 which is what 7Eleven Mobil is advertised as. Source: Puma website.
