      Yeah… Luckily it's on steam.

328.49GB with all the free DLC. As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, your first task is to clear enough storage space.

Or you need to buy a new 500GB+ hard drive / SSD first just to fit this game with all its DLC.

      • +7

i giggled at this, went to install it and realised i actually needed to put some serious effort into cleaning up my disk :(

current status: checking the SSD category on OZB

edit: aaaand done. just ordered one of these :D

So you are saying this game ends up costing you $249? LOL

  • +4

Glad I refunded this, will never buy Ark 2 knowing this developer. That being said, of course I claimed it, too bad the full install is 330GB.

      What's wildcard done?

When they where in Early Access they spent the development crowdfunding on a paid expansion. It is believed that the money also went to paying off multiple lawsuits behind the scenes, including stealing code.

As for the game, the adverts where always awesome and the gameplay was nothing like it. The user interface was like a placeholder that was never replaced. The performance was extremely bad on almost all hardware last time I tried it out.

The PS4 versions where a cash grab where they where in no way close to playable.

Overall I just got a very poor impression of the developer involving another game they made as well, but that's probably enough info for one comment.

        • +2

Personally had more fun in that paid expansion than I ever did in the base game so it didnt bother me too much. Each to their own.

          • @Ravensbane: The free dlc has most of the creatures in it that the paid dlc has.

          • +1

@Ravensbane: Whether or not the paid expansion was good was not the point, it just feels like a scam when you paid money for something in early access then find out they haven't been working on the base game and have been working on something else they can sell you.

That is the entire story of Ark, it really feels like the game was never properly finished and they just keep moving on to the next paid expansion while performance is still awful and loads of base game issues aren't fixed.

I have 1000 hours in ARK, recently re-installed it check it out.

It was a jank game full of bugs back then, and it's worse now. The UI had a total overhaul and it's objectively 1000x worse.

There's now mecha-lazer suits with (profanity) gundam swords and artillery shells. Kind of makes the "Early game" picking berries with a wood stick impossible to get out of if there's even one dick on the server.

            I have 1000 hours in ARK…

This is what scares me… got trapped in that world once before haha

            • +2

@trapper: Yeah I was between jobs and spent 5 days without pants on. Not sure if it's a high or low point in life but it is what it is

          • @[Deactivated]: On the opposite end, someone gave me a copy of Rust when it was in Early Access and I couldn't believe how polished it was.

Rust is best of every one of these types of games.

            • +2

@Jimbuscus: All I've ever heard about Rust is how incredibly toxic the playerbase is.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yeah probably coming from somebody who heard the same thing from somebody else who also never played it

  • You do dont need to download the free DLCs separately ye?

    • +1

You can deselect them on the right side of your library page first, then you only have to download the 130GB.

  • Man I've tried giving this a go, both on PC and Ps5 but just couldn't keep going. I'd like to to try again though haha.

    • +2

There's a ton of QOL mods that are basically required to make the game enjoyable. Best bet is to find a decent discord server that hosts AU servers.

  • Noice.

this has been on XBOX Gamepass before hasnt it?

    • It has, but the files where too large to be worth installing.

  • +1

Nice find OP. I did try this game on Epic and it was fun, just a long grind.
I will probably try the game again but with a WeMod to speed the game up and mess around.

  • downloaded, run the game, shows server list ? cant join any, deleted.

  • Best to play on a private server with pumped up rates. I played on a public server and the struggle was real then some d*ck raids you and you have to start again.

  • Do we need to order the free DLCs like Epic or do they automatically go to the library?

  • I had lots of fun in this game with friends but the size is a killer and it doesnt always run well
