[Switch] Stardew Valley $11.99 @ Nintendo eShop

850

I've been waiting for this to go on sale. Third time ever according to Dekudeals. Has been cheaper at $10.99, only $16.99 normally. Still, if you're cheap like me, you might be waiting until it goes on sale and that time has come.

Also Free Play Week if you want to try it out.

    Great farming simulator that came from an individual (concerned ape) that was looking for a job and decided to build a portfolio with this game. Years later, this is the result of his passion project, to fix the issues harvest moon series had in recent years. Music, artwork, programming, this guy nailed it all.

    I've got 50 hours out of it and it was really fun compared to my experience with harvest moon. I see many friends with over 2000 hours on this game.

    Very charming atmosphere despite its 8 bit graphics and a really great game to escape the urban lifestyle in order to start a farm. At this price, absolutely must try

      Great game, definitely quite enjoyable and relaxing.

        Thanks! I was thinking for general audience would be put off by it but I truly love pixel art and shouldn't put it down no matter what

      I loved Harvest Moon as a kid, but somehow I couldn't get into this game despite multiple attempts, I still don't understand why.

    Don’t think, just buy - will save you thousands of dollars on therapy.

  • Is there local multiplayer or only online multiplayer?

    • +3

      https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Multiplayer
      • Players can join remotely via Nintendo Switch Online (requires a subscription). Multiplayer farms hosted by friends will appear on the in-game "join" tab.
      • Nearby Switch players can play remotely via local communications play (no Nintendo Switch Online subscription needed).
      • Up to two players can play in split-screen mode (see start split-screen mode).

      PC version is $13.59 @ https://www.gog.com/en/game/stardew_valley
      Might be a better option for some. The game doesn't require high specs(running it on a $350 laptop from 2014) and with a gog version you can easily share it with a friend for local coop.

      • When I had a look at the game in the Nintendo online store it says; "number of players (local wireless) 1.

        Does anyone know if you can actually do this? We want to play this game with 3 Switch's locally and want to double check before I buy 3 copies of it.

          Test it with the free trial. I'm sure it's fine. Local split screen is also an option.

      • GOG has a 20% off sale, so you can play it on PC and Mac. Not sure what the AUD price was, as I got charged in USD (outside of Australia) and no tax.

    The question is, do I need this for yet another system? I think this would be the 4th time I've bought it. But the allure of being able to play this on a long plane trip is too great. One of those games where you say you will just play one more day so that you can pick up your upgraded axe and then you decide to play a few more days to try it out and then it's 3 in the morning because you played a whole season. Should be perfect for a plane trip.

    • I feel you. I am aggressively resisting getting any games I already have on PC on the Switch, and it has almost completely worked so far. It is a tough hill to die on tho

    What is the better of the following 2 platforms to play this game on if you want to play on the device's screen? :
    * Switch
    * iPad

    Game is $7.99 on the Apple App Store.

      Switch for sure

      Switch. Stardew Valley on iOS is still not updated to latest major update and there’s no multiplayer mode.

  • Thanks OP. Keen to try this out after growing up a Harvest Moon fan

    Buy this and say goodbye to any life you had left.

    Great game but good lord is it a bit of a time sink. I eventually drifted away from it, not because I didn't like it but just because there are so many other things to play. I really should give it another chance sometime. Maybe when I'm old and retired and have a lot more free time to fill :P

    • I felt the same with RDR2 on xbox. I've been playing it for months and still only 80% of the way through. Games like Stardew Valley really make you feel like you got your moneys worth (and at $11.99 its a steal!)

  • I went to buy this only discover I'd already purchased it the last time it was on sale… picked up Moving Out instead…first world problems.

  • I tried playing this game but looked outside to my actual garden at all the weeds and chores that need doing and realised I should actually be doing that job instead of the pretend version in this game. Which got me wondering, how many players who like this game have their own gardens or farms to tend compared to those who don’t?

  • Thanks Miss B!

    Got my daughter to try it out as I recommended it to her, she loved it so we grabbed it while on special.

    She will now take note of my recommendations more seriously haha :)
