Was down at my local Dendy yesterday and the counter staff mentioned that they're running the $5 for a one year membership promo for the month of June.

Normally $18 for one year, so at $5 you'll at least breakeven after your first trip to the cinemas. Go on a Monday for half price tickets and you'll definitely come out ahead.
I upgraded my free membership but they were also offering it to non members so I expect it should work for lapsed members too. @whatboutbob confirmed that you cannot extend your existing membership though.

Benefits include:

• Half price movie tickets every Monday

• Partner discounts
• Status benefits accrued as you see more movies

    Been a while since I've been to Hoyts so can't give you a fair comparison of cinemas. Prices for the QLD options are on these links -

    Dendy is the closest cinema to me and IMO the quality of screen/sound at Coorparoo is good enough for me that I'll take the lower price over paying more for a "better" cinema but if you have stronger opinions on what you want in your cinema experience maybe someone else can chime in.
