[Switch] Celeste $7.50 @ Nintendo eShop

970

Been waiting forever for it to go on sale and at $7.50 it's pretty much a steal. Normally $30 and the lowest ever on switch according to Deku deals. Only until the 20th of June so get it now before it's gone

But make sure to buy it at full price so the devs don't starve

      • +5

And buy it several times on several accounts so the dev kiddos can have shoes for school

Man, this game has been on my watchlist for years, waiting for any kind of price drop.

    • +1

first time since March 2020 that there's been an discount, the wait has paid off.

    • ME too.

I'm also contemplating if I should get cup head which is on sale but its still over $20.

  • Got scribblenauts mega pack for $8.99

Loved these games as a kid

  • Is this like 8bit ver of Ori…

    • No. It's very different from ori as a platformer as there are limited movesets to traverse and doesn't have power up like ori.

Celeste requires very tight precision but at the same time very forgiving with deaths.

    • +2

I would say Celeste is most similar to Super Meat Boy. They are quite different, but I think in essence, they are the most similar.

Both are top 10 games of all time for me personally (probably top 5)!

      • Wow didn't realise platformers would make anyone's top 10/5. Eye opening.

        • I didn't neg you, but yeah - I'm not really into your typical AAA first person / 3D games. More into indie puzzlers and platformers and the like.

Off the top of my head, Fez, Braid, Portal 1/2 (ok, those are 3D). And Tetris, lol.

          • @caprimulgus: My comment actually wasn't meant as an insult. As I said it was an eye opener. Easy to get caught up in your own world of gaming and not realise that there are still enthusiastic fans of other genres. Like many people I have fond memories of playing Mario and Sonic as a child but can't get into them anymore. Portal games were not bad. Esp portal 2 as co-op. Guess I am also more time poor now so the main platformer mechanic of basically retrying and memorisation becomes more frustration than satisfaction.

            • @Xastros: All good mate - I didn't take it as an insult either! :)

    • It's more like Super Meat Boy

I just bought my first Switch (awaiting delivery) - is this a good game to start my collection?

    • +3

If you like difficult platformers with bite sized stages like Super Meat Boy, it’s fantastic. Once you die you restart instantly, which makes it addictive to keep retrying until you figure out what’s needed and ultimately succeed.

    • +1

I dunno about starting (plenty of great games that make use of the hardware like Mario Odyseey, BoTW etc), but it's still an excellent part of it due to how well it plays on it.

@transit - This was $3 if you want to add to your collection:

Trying to figure out if you're serious or if I've fallen for it hook, line and sinker.

        • Sorry, not sure why it gave me the NZ site but it’s on AU site as well for $3.

    • +2

no. you will play zelda and pokemon arceus. After 200 hours gaming, you start to look for the third game

This is a great, great game. It took me a few tries to get into it, just kind of bounced off the first couple of times. But once it finally clicked for me, I smashed my way through it and actually completed it. No small feat as this is a very difficult (but fair) game. Kind of like Dark Souls in that respect, and a similar level of satisfaction upon completing it.

    • I thought there was an Assist Mode?

      • +2

I think there is but that would defeat the purpose

      • +1

There are assists, yes, but I didn't use them. Undermines the point of the game, IMO.

  • +2

Do your hands a favour and use hori split pads or similar if playing this in handheld :P

  • Thanks OP, had this on my Dekudeals wishlist, but wasn't really sure what it was so I kinda ignored the email that came through about it being on sale. Have now bought.

And Towerfall and Scribblenauts Mega Pack mentioned above.

I did a Coles 4 week shop thing and got $70 flybuys dollars, bought $60 of eshop credit from Kmart and was starting to wonder if I'd made a mistake, but with all of these and Stardew Valley it is definitely feeling worth it.

  • It is worth purchasing Towerfall from same developer also on sale for the first time since 03/2020? Is it good multiplayer game? Should this game also be added in this deal?

    • +2

Towerfall is THE BEST competitive multiplayer game on Switch, IMHO. (Equal best multiplayer game, with the co-operative multiplayer Overcooked 1/2.)

  • +1

Thanks. Had some great fun last night. Challenging in a good and fair way, and feels rewarding once you get through it. Very worth the price in my opinion.

As mentioned the instant respawn makes it much more enjoyable.
