Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 EAGLE OC 10GB Video Card - Rev 2.0 Version - $1173 + Shipping @ Skycomp

190

Lower tier 3080 for $1173. Personally would wait for ASUS or EVGA < $1000, but maybe a pipe dream.

Also $1170 @ CCPU - don't know anything about them - look to be Sydney based.

    Price is crashing
    Hold

    • +1

      Hodl

      • Hodl for 4080.

    • Thank you for using and spelling the word properly. Honestly I really appreciate it.

      • -1

        It's an acronym.

        • -2

I'm aware, but not how it's being used and in all honesty just needs to die off

          • @maverickjohn: How is it not being used correctly? Sure it was originally a typo, so it's a backronym, but "Hold On for Dear Life" still means the same as Hold in context does it not?

            • @BrotherEstapol: Look below and you will see a perfect example

              • @maverickjohn: You'll need to be more specific? I'm only seeing people using it in the context that they are holding off from buying now; holding on until the prices drop.

Holding used in the context of stocks/crypto was a little different(you're holding on to stock while the price is dropping/rising) but it's still holding on until things get better.

                • @BrotherEstapol: Hodl for 4080. - Incorrect use

                  Hold the line boys

HODL - tried to correct hold with acronym. Again incorrect use

Honestly it's just getting frustrating seeing these comments, and is used out of context or just for any gpu deal.

  • With these prices, I'll wait.

    • +3

Only you is waiting. Everyone else is holding.

  • +3

These are now the afterpay prices of ebay from 3 months ago.
Hopefully it's just downhill from here

  • +1

Vendors now like - Price is crashing, sell sell sell

    • You'd think they'd lower it to msrp at least. Couple mates got them $1130 at launch better than eagle ventus too

      • Most shops would’ve paid way over MSRP to secure the stock anyway, so they’re trying to not take a loss

        • They'd be wise to sell them at their cost price(what THEY paid rather than normal cost price) just to move the stock before the 40 series launches at a similar price point.

  • +1

Nice try retailers but still too much. I bought a 1080 (EVGA Superclocked2) in 2017 for bit over $700 and we weren't in a global recession. This is close to equivalent in current computing so should be ~$820 factoring CPI. Any more is just a rip off. You know what to do….. H O D L

That goes for anything you want. Just hold and save. Prices of most things will dump next 6 months into a slump 2023 as those whose who have borrowed too much grapple with interest rates and market conditions.

    • +1

There is a point of diminishing returns - you could have spent 2 years playing games on the 3080 as well too, and that may have been worth it (or one of those crypto miners…). You could have a big period of time off coming up, in that case it's a perfect time to buy now.

    • Except the performance isn't 1-to-1.

3080 is much better. I'm with the other commenter.
Opportunity lost sitting on your hands.

  • Prime Day on mid july coming soon, we might see go down during this time ;)

  • +1

$1k or no dice, Hold the line boys

    • -2

      Hold the line boys

      HODL!

    • Some serious holding!

  • Tempted here - What if crypto reverses again?

    • +3

bruh cypto ain't gonna magically go back to its peak I think its safe to hold until 3080 prices go lower but if you really just want a graphics card and can be bothered waiting and risking because of very good reasons then buy it

      • Cheers. I am not well versed in tech these days. In your personal opinion, will something like this go down to $900 in a month's time?

        • +1

you're probably looking at another $100 drop

        • +1

Yeah I would think $100 drop as well, but if you look into second hand I do believe miners and other people will start to sell their gpu for even lower

    • It goes back up in price. But after 2 years it's just started crashing down.

    • The prices from multiple vendors are close to this, nothing special, just a few bucks cheaper.
Next gen should be a few months away, stock needs to be cleared, prices should continue to slowly fall, but I expect it will be slow progress from here until official announcements or all these used cards actually turn up on the 2nd hand market like everyone is predicting.

Personally, I bought a 6800xt for 1150 this week. There will always be a next gen, I'm ready now and its a price i'm comfortable with.

So honestly why buy this over 3070? So you can sit 40 inch screen 1ft from your face? That's worse than a 27 inch. If you're gaming at least 3 meters away like a console then makes sense. But desk with a screen in your fov is always better than that anyway. Current vr also a gimmick like eyetoy

    • -5

So you gonna answer the question or just neg? Lol. Always good to buy something because it's nice and shiny

      • I mean, longer term, a 3080 will keep your games looking good for longer on a 2k screen. I'm not seeing many people talk about 4k gaming on PC; most seem to be looking for a card that can do 1440p/2k. Yes a 3070 would be good, but what's wrong with people wanting to get the best card they can if they can afford it?

You also got negged, as a simple google search can answer your question as to why a 3080 is a better card than a 3070. You also went on a weird tangent about VR? If you want proper discourse, write better comments.

    • +2

there are heaps of reasons you can research for yourself too. The 2gb of extra ram is a boon when using these cards for Blender GPU rendering. That extra ram is going to help with gaming as well too.

The faster speed lets you have Raytracing on in more cases. I don't get why you are jumping at resolution.

    • +1

You answer your own question with vitriol.

No one is going to answer when you've made up your mind …
      shit troll is shit

Also $1170 @ CCPU - don't know anything about them - look to be Sydney based.

ccpu's legit, even if their website looks like it's more suited to be read in a browser that just reached EOL.

    • +1

Pretty sure netscape navigator went EOL years ago :p

    • +1

      Fast Edie…

      • ha, good old fluidtek

Buy bitcoin or ether whilst its cheap, many become millionaires, just ask techlead or rektrading.

then you don't need to worry about saving measly $173 waiting to drop sub 1k.

What $173 can get you these days anyways? mc happy meal?

    • I remember when my RTX 970 mined bitcoin. Now these shitty 3080's can't even do that you need cmp hx

      • -4

I said buy, not mine bitcoin. mining is peanuts money. buy bitcoin whilst it was $500 and sell at $90k.

        • +3

Your predictions on prices and crypto haven't been that great and your arrogance on messages here hardly endears many to listen to you I imagine. You've been judging GPUs on the mining performance and now point out that is peanuts money.
