If any Amazon employees are actually reading this, here is an idea.
How about offering $3 for 1 month of Prime or $39 for a year? Kind of a good idea ain't it since it's meant to be "Prime Day".

I'm actually surprised Prime is still so cheap. In the US it's now US$15/m or US$139pa, that's about $20.50/m or $200pa.

I actually heard about the US Amazon Prime price increase a few months ago, and at the time I enquired to Amazon AU support if the price increase would be coming here to Australia. Support member told me the Prime prices here would be not be going up as the AU market is just not the same.

Someone from the US will probably do a much better job at explaining this, but I was informed that US Prime is much more evolved and different service compared to AU Prime. I didn't ask for many details, but from what I know Amazon are big business in the US and so having a US Prime subscription is equal to that of having multiple subscriptions for many services in one.
Think of the membership benefits of Amazon, JB HiFi/Harvey Norman/TGG/Binglee, Bunnings, David Jones/Myer, Target/Kmart, Woolworths/Coles, Fresh food markets/Vegetable shops/Butchers, Mobile/Audio/Video streaming services, Chemist Warehouse, etc all in one subscription price. On top of this many of these products from these stores have "Free Same day delivery" which is only just starting to appear on Amazon AU on a very small amount of products.

For example in the US Amazon owns/is part of "Whole Foods" which I understand is a food wholesaler, and there was a lot of uproar recently as US Amazon removed the "Free delivery" option for US Prime members for Whole Foods purchases and started charging $10 for every delivery. So on top of the US Prime price increase they still want to give customers less, that tells me Amazon must think of their US Prime subscribers as getting a decent deal.

So you should think of US Prime as $200 pa divided by 5~10 separate subscriptions which their customers would be paying for anyway. So around $20~$40 pa for each service, compared to the current $69 pa for Prime, Prime Music and Prime Video. In that sense having it all in one US Prime subscription saves you a small amount pa in the long run.

        • I thought us prime membership includes those sub companies that Amazon owns. For example Woot.

          • @foxmulder: Yeah there are probably many sub companies or "Amazon Brands" that I don't know about.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: I personally found that I can reach their free shipping threshold anyway easily, thus why I cancel membership there as it's quiet pricy. A little shipping delay but it's ok.

              • @foxmulder: I am the same way here with Amazon AU. I only pay for a few months out of the year, maybe 4 to 6 months total so it is not worth it for me to pay $69 for a year when I end up spending less paying for a month at a time when I know I will use it.

When off Prime also easily add up items to reach the $39 spend threshold for Free delivery. Usually just top up on pantry items, such as instant ramen etc.

        • Selection is so much larger over in the US, I think they've just go so many hooked they can afford to raise membership prices. It could be the couriers are charging them more also. Iirc Amazon were losing billions per year on shipping.

          • @TEER3X: I think consumerism is on another level over there. From what I gather US Prime customers don't have to worry about using the "cart" anymore, since most things have free same day shipping you just open up the App and order items as you think of them and Amazon's automated warehouses just sort it all into bigger boxes and guarantee delivery within 12 hour windows.

Their product range also probably covers absolutely everything so no matter what you need you can get it from Amazon on that very same day.

    • $39 isn't prime.
How about $5 per month or $59 for a year?

      • The original $69 price is not a prime number either.
