      NO GPS, Bluetooth

That's a dealbreaker for me. Usually you would still keep Bluetooth, but to drop both of those is quite strange, no wonder they're cheap.

      • +5

Not everyone needs Bluetooth, and besides, what do you use the BT for when the device doesn't make any calls?

At this price I think it's fairly reasonable — there's no other 16GB tablet with a dual core processor this cheap on the market.

On the contrary I bought a single core Novo 7 Mars for $129, which is more expensive than the Ramos.

Hence why i said "dealbreaker for me". I want to mount one in my car. Must have Bluetooth to talk to my obd2 adapter.

I was just pointing out the omission, since it is pretty much taken for granted that there will be Bluetooth.

"what do you use the BT for when the device doesn't make any calls?"
          File transfer. AD2P. Bluetooth keyboard.

        • ^^ AD2P ++++

I see people fumbling with headphone wires on public transport - ultra hip Dr.Pre headsets - so expensive but no A2DP. Deal-breaker in my book.

TetherGPS app from Android phone (with GPS) appears to send GPS data to the Tablet without GPS.
Haven't used it, but sounds useful:

I dont want to trouble you too much ( I realise typing is hard work), but could perhaps add a few extra words to explain why this is craaaap…

    • Wow I like it already… lol

  • Word around is that its not a bad little tablet - thanks for the Bargain :)

You know chinese manufacturers are sort of getting it right when you start seeing "Tight joints" as one of the new advertised features of the tablet.

    • maybe they meant "well fitting" parts? most of the cheap tablets i've seen still have "tight joints", the bigger problem is creaking parts or keyboards that flex too much!

    • +1

They had me at "reducing light bounce off your eyes". Brilliant.

"All white design will make you fondle admiringly".

      • I really don't want to know what they are inferring with that statement :P
        Tablet erotica?!

  • Whatever happened to the sub-$150 tablets with GPS?

This is not a dual core, it is a dual CPU (Arm9 and gpu).
I have a chinese Dual Core and a Iconia DualCore and the game Majesty runs
slow on the chinese dualcore and smoooooth on the Iconia.
I suggest to spend $100 more and get a real tegra-2 dual core.
With local warranty, OTA updates, good quality build and more ….

    • +2

This is a true dual core. The CPU has 2 cores and the GPU is seperate from the CPU.

The reason it lags is because the processor and graphics chipset is of an inferior type. It's like comparing AMD processors with Intel CPU's — the clock speed is irrelevant. Unless both of your tablets were running Tegra2 chipsets, it isn't a fair comparison.

      AMLogic CPU's = budget CPU's.

    • +1

The AmLogic AML8726-MX is a real dual-core CPU, plus the very good Mali400 GPU. Cortex A9 too, like Tegra 2, so it should be faster than my Iconia A500. Dunno about what you've got, of course.

      • No one knows what he really got. I guess he meant to say a Chinese dual core, but does not even know how to spell the country name properly.

    • Forum comments are that it plays 1080p smoothly, that suggests its well powered.

"Can also get it through Ali Express for even less, $127 shipped."

As you've said. This seems a lot cheaper… any reason it isn't the main bargain?

    • +1

OzBargain has banned Ali Express URLs (for spam etc), along with other places I looked (PandaWill, Buyincoins)

Actually this is not bad. Ramos while a chinese brand it is one of the better chinese brands.

I see that there is a hands-on video review of it here, no commentary, but gives you a feel for the touch screen and general speed of operation. Looks ok.

Looks good on paper, though I'm wary of the "Tight Joints" boast and typically these cheaper no-name tablets skimp on larger batteries so they only last a few hours.

    • battery life will most likely be way overstated from experience.

  • The AML8726-MX can certainly be clocked up to 1.5 GHz, but looking around the web, it seems like it's clocked at 1.2 GHz in this device. Does anyone else know any more about it?

    • Some of them come pre-overclocked for better performance — but at the cost of battery life. Maybe you can OC yourself if the kernel allows it.

I wish the $AUD would jump back up over parity so I can buy cheap electronics online. Paypal take about 3c commission on the exchange rate so currently @ $0.97 AUS/US, effective rate is only around ~$0.94.

    • +1

Get a 28 degrees master card and link it to paypal so you don't have to use PP exchange rates.

    • +1

I share your pain but keep reminding myself that the lower exchange rate is much better for the Australian economy - particularly for maintaining jobs in manufacturing, agriculture, food processing and tourism. That's a lot of sectors with a lot of jobs.

So in the bigger scheme of things the lower the AUD$ the better - even if we pay a small premium in expanding our Meritline collections.

      • It is still historically at a very high level but us consumers get used to a good thing and expect it to stay that way perpetually :)
I remember wetting my pants a few years back when the AUD was soaring to 0.80 cents!
Definitely a much needed boost for these vital export industries and they deserve it, except for maybe the cashed-up mineral companies.

  • Oh, and the GPU isn't quite the same as the Galaxy S II. They both use Mali-400 GPUs, but the S II uses a 4-core version, while this one seems to have a 2-core version. Compared to what else is on the market at the moment, though, that's almost splitting hairs.
