Here are some of the most common questions that tend to pop up (kudos to WookieMonster for the original writeup):

What is Reward Gateway?

Reward Gateway is an employee program that gives you access to discounted eGift cards and cashback across a large range of retailers.

How do I access Reward Gateway?

Your employer needs to be subscribed to this program before you can apply to access the program. Once you are given access, you can log into Reward Gateway through:

The dedicated website for your company, or The SmartSpending app on iOS/Android devices.

What is the transaction fee?

Transaction fees will vary depending on the type of card used to complete the transaction. The feedback I have been given by their support team is as follows:

MasterCard or Visa debit card: 0%
Standard MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0%
Premium / Platinum MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0.5%
Standard AMEX card: 1.5%
Premium AMEX card: 3%

Can I use prepaid gift cards (e.g. Vanilla Visa gift cards) as a payment method?

No. Reward Gateway requires all debit, credit and prepaid cards to support 3D Secure. Prepaid gift cards do not support 3D Secure, so they will be blocked by the payment processor.

What denominations of eGift cards are available through Reward Gateway?

Each retailer has limits and/or minimum denominations that are specified in the T&Cs, but most will allow purchases up to $5000 (refer to the daily limits point below). Larger amounts will be split across multiple cards.

How are the eGift cards delivered?

Electronically. Either print them from your account or use the SmartSpending app to display them on a mobile device. There is also an unique PIN associated with each one which you will need to input when redeeming a card.

Where can I use the eGift cards?

The can generally be used instore or online. Some stores may have limits on how many eGift cards can be redeemed in one transaction, refer to the T&Cs of each retailer for details (e.g. JB Hi-Fi will allow unlimited GCs online but only 8 per transaction in-store).

Is there a limit on the number of eGift cards I can buy?

Rewards Gateway will allow you to purchase up to the maximum amount on your first transaction each day, but as a fraud protection on your account the system will limit further transactions to only $300 for that day. Some retailers may also impose monthly limits so check the T&Cs of each one if you plan to spend up big.

  • Why do premium cards charge higher fees?

    • Likely its due to the fact it costs them? Similar to how Amex has their own category on the surcharge scale

Plenty of listings online show the cost to the merchant range based on the card types

      • Yeah makes sense. I also feel it could be due to high level of insurance they provide - in the sense that if some item gets damaged and if it purchased via those premium CCs, then the bank also comes in picture in getting your money back. Don't have a premium card so not completely sure

  • +1

@OP Maybe add the link about how to join if people want to get the $10 p/m for the API access not just via employees

    https://join.apilifestyle.com.au/api-membership-application-…

    • If someone with an API Lifestyle account is able to confirm they see the same deals then I'd be happy to. I don't have an API account myself so I can't, therefore I don't know if Reward Gateway run the same deal for them. In previous posts I've had other Oz Bargainers confirm their employee benefits program match what I'm seeing in my own, so I know that part is common across multiple organisations.

      • I would assume its the same as if you go to API and login it takes you to the same website and their savings calc lists alot of the same vendors/discounts etc (which is the same as the one you would be using just a different company name in the url)

Also Rewards Gateway is owned by API as well,(or the other way around) I was using API before they re-branded to the new corp offering (was with my former employee who have been offering it for years when they then moved to this platform in 2015)

        see https://www.rewardgateway.com/au/blog/welcoming-140-clients-…

But agree would be interesting to see if it really is the same 1-to-1 if anyone sees the value in $10 for the subscription :)

  • For every $100 worth of eGift Cards purchased, get $10 More for Myer Gift Cards from Giftz

  • just so you guys know i'm fighting them at the moment as they refused to allow me more than $1600 in webjet gift cards at that discounted rate.
Really dishonest and the customer service has been abysmal
