OzBargain EoFY 2022 Treasure Hunt - Gift Cards and Graphics Cards! Starting 22 June at 12PM

Hi all! It's that time of the year where we invite all the OzBargain users to participate in some load testing OzBargain Bargain Hunt! It's starting tomorrow morning and we are giving away $11,000+ worth of gift cards and goodies. Here's the summary:

  • Starts at 12:00PM AEST on Wednesday 22 June 2022
  • Finishes at 11:59PM AEST on Friday 24 June 2022
  • Around $3,000 worth of gift cards (100x $20, 20x $50) and 50x OzBargain T-shirts will popup at random places.
  • 10x $100 gift cards, some electronics and some NVIDIA GeForce's & AMD Radeon's will popup on specific pages on OzBargain, and I will be posting hints in comments in this post.

What treasure hunt?!

OzBargain Treasure Hunt is a site-wide event that we've been running almost every year since 2015. Not much has changed since then, and this year's format would be very similar to last year's (hence I haven't even bothered to change the picture in the examples below). Basically various prizes will popup on the site throughout the day during the hunt. You'll need to do a bit of scrolling as they pops up in the middle of the page. Here's an example from last year:

Click to Reveal the Prize

When a prize pops up on a page, it won't stay there forever. The "Click to Reveal" banner will disappear after 20 seconds without interaction. However after you click on the prize, it will reveal what the prize is and allow you to claim it.

Click to Claim the Prize

After you have claimed the prize, it will be added to your inventory, which is available on the Marketplace page (that page will be enabled 2 hours before the hunt starts). Marketplace would be very important in the later part of the hunt. You can add at most 4 items to your inventory — prizes basically would stop popping up on OzBargain once your inventory is full.

Marketplace

On the Marketplace page, you can

  • See what prizes you have in your inventory.
  • Drop prizes to vacate your inventory. Dropped prize will be back to the wild, ready to be picked up by other OzBargainers.
  • Put your prizes on the marketplace for trading.
  • See what prizes other users have put on the marketplace.
  • Request / Accept / Reject trades.

Trading is important because many prizes come in multiple parts — and you can only claim the final prize when you have collected all the parts!

Multipart Prize

Feel free to use private messages or this forum to organise trades.

What prizes?

Here are the prizes for the OzBargain Treasure Hunt this year:

  • Gift Cards
    • 100x $20 Prezzee Gift Cards
    • 20x $50 Prezzee Gift Cards
    • 10x $100 Prezzee Gift Cards
  • T-shirts
    • 50x OzBargain T-shirt (same design as last year's, Gildan 5000)
  • Gadgets
    • 2x Apple AirPods Pro (2 parts)
    • 2x Nintendo Switch Neon (2 parts)
    • 2x LEGO Vespa 125
    • 2x Xbox Series S (2 parts)
    • 2x Samsung Galaxy Buds Live
    • 2x Ultimate Ears Wonderboom

    • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 (2 parts)

    • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (2 parts)
    • AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (2 parts)
    • AMD Radeon RX 6600 (2 parts)

The list of gadgets were from GoNuts deals at Click Frenzy Mayhem this year, except we removed all the more expensive phones, TV, laptop and PS5, double all the other gadgets that are giving away.

As of graphics cards — these are by far the most popular products posted on OzBargain recently — almost 700 video card related deals so far this financial year. For the winners — I'll just order whatever is on sale / reasonably priced product that contains the chip, so might not be the brand that you are thinking of.

Note the prizes with "(2 parts)" — you'll need to collect both part 1 (floating around during the hourly drop) and part 2 in order to win the prize.

Where to look?

$20 & $50 gift cards, T-shirt and most of the "part 1" prizes will be gradually released on OzBargain. They may be found on OzBargain front page, new deals page, or any deals/competition/forum page from this financial year (July 2021 to June 2022). However the chance that they appear is governed by probability, of around 1-2% per page view.

All the other prizes are released at specific time and location. A hint will be posted as comment in this thread about the location of that prize. Here's the schedule:

Location hint for Prezzee eGift Card $100

What was the most voted deal in last year's Black Friday / Cyber Monday event?

The answer is this Mastercard / Amazon AU deal, which you'll be able to find the $100 Prezzee gift card. You'll have to be quick though, as other OzBargainers are also fighting for those prizes.

The last prize will drop at 3PM on Friday, but the event will officially conclude at 11:59PM on Friday, giving traders in Marketplace plenty of time to finalise their transactions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is adblocker okay?

Yes, prizes will still show up when you use adblocker on OzBargain.

Q: Is mobile okay?

Yes, mobile browsers should not have any issue.

Q: Is dark mode okay?

Yes.

Q: Where do the prizes pop up?

It will always be below the fold, i.e. requiring you to scroll down at least one full page. It pops up when the page is loaded, but will disappear after 20 seconds.

Q: I am getting error "This item has already been claimed" when I try to click on Claim This button! What's going on?

A prize can simultaneously pop up on many ozbargainers' browsers, but only the first person clicking on "Claim This" will actually add the prize to his/her inventory. Others will get the error message after clicking on "Claim This" button. It's like multiple people can simultaneous spot a $50 notes on the floor, but only the first person who takes the action to pick it up can claim it.

Q: How do I get the prize after claiming?

After the competition has ended, a form will appear on your Treasure Hunt marketplace page for you to fill in your postal details, and I'll try to order in the prizes and send them out a week after the comp has finished.

If you've only won the egift card prizes, we only need your email address to send the card to you.

Comments

    • If anyone is up to trade the headphones for my $100 voucher, please let me know ;)

      • @lynsis Did you get a trade already?

  • +7

Honestly don't agree with doing quiz questions in this format of "most voted" "most commented" etc. People have clearly scraped the site for all those details and prepped answers.

    • +2

That's a lot of effort to code up the scraper within a day of announcement. Good job!

After all demonstration of skill is required and I suspect some ozbargainers already know the answers from some of the quiz questions because of how much time they've spent on the site. Even if we are changing the questions, it's still going to be skill based comp.

      • oh wait… so its allowed?

        • no, he's just saying people haven't coded automatic scrapers. Doesn't rule out compiling spreadsheets and whatnot, I suppose there's no way to prevent use of them besides some very interesting hints.

          • +3

@Techie4066: Bit silly to assume that when the competition follows the same format every year so its not simply 1 day to do.

  • +8

Yeah that pretty much concluded the hunting part of treasure hunt this year. Get the trading going, and the postal detail form will be available after midnight tonight for you to fill in the postal details.

  • Was just curious how the trading is going to work for some of the major prize in the market place trade between people who have first part and second part of major prize ? That's quite a expensive piece to trade the other person would need to have something of quite some value, and other than $50 or $100 gift cards there really isn't anything you can offer.

What happens if they don't trade - what happens to the prize, does no one get it?

    • +2

I'm pretty sure the prize isn't awarded. A similar thing happened last year where there was an incomplete xbox series x that no one won.

    • +2

I jus traded $100 gift card for a 6700xt (2/2) and a shirt for 6700xt (1/2). The 1/2 are easy to trade as there are duplicates. Got lucky with the 2/2 trade though. Not sure why they requested it, but worst case, I can flip it.

      • +4

They probably only had the one prize and nothing to trade for a 1/2 piece.

        • +1

That’s prob wat happened. Or else they wld jus sell it even if they didn’t need it.

          • +3

@SleepyBargainHunter: For sure, if they were smart theyd comment on here. People would have paid money plus the trade for that piece.

            • @Dowhatuwant: bruh pain

              • @vinhtheman07: You sold a $700 card for $100 lol.

                • @Dowhatuwant: Note the part 2/2 is not worth $700 unless you can complete it with part 1/2 on its own it is merely a shiny temporary jpg image you can keep for yourself in your inventory or let other see it by trading it on the marketplace.

Do not make the mistake someone made last year and refusing to trade the winning piece of Xbox Series X because they demanded to be paid $200 cash to trade a treasure for it, when they had no way to complete it (only had 1 treasure) and should of just cut their losses at a $50 gift card to someone who had 3 treasures and could complete it.

                  • @AgentXKnight: i wouldve paid the $200. Youd be a fool not to really.

                    • @Dowhatuwant: The problem with Xbox Series X was also it was 3 pieces so if you did not have any of other pieces of the Xbox Series X with many people not communicating or much time to organise outside trading you were guarantee to loss $200 because you might not be guarantee to get the other 2 pieces you needed with the wining piece.

Also unofficial rules at Ozbargain classified it is cash only so you would be fool to pay any other method and there was no time to organise in person meeting and get the other pieces at the same time. As most people on this forum are well aware using online payment or non-cash payments is asking to be scammed on classified forum where you would likely be next forum poster saying I was scammed on Ozbargain.

          • @SleepyBargainHunter: Hey Sleepy, would I be able to you dm you about a trade offer?

      • +2

If they only had the 2/2 then there wasn't anything else they could do really.

      • +1

Wow congrats, thats some good wheeling and dealing there, i thought maybe some would be stubborn and not trade at all, but its interesting they will to give it up. Thanks

      • +1

I didn't know you could trade money for a piece 😭 Anyways congrats on the 6700 XT. Hope you enjoy it

        • I would just note you are not guarantee people actually trading money as most people here are cheapskates and if they followed unofficial ozbargain classified rules it is cash only and not enough trading time to organise trading meeting.

Also note in order to get your 6700XT 2/2 piece they still would have to give you something and not everyone has a worthless 1/2 piece to trade so would still have to give up trading piece if they need to get the 1/2 piece and if the people who have 1/2 know they traded money for 2/2 piece and still needs 1/2 they can some hostile negotiation as person who paid money for your piece would be facing the sunk cost problem of you might be willing to pay money for 1/2 so you do not lose your investment in 2/2 piece.

Edit Also if you cannot complete the 6700XT you are in a weaker bargaining position so a person who can complete the treasure either does not get the treasure and leaves with their minor prizes without losing anything or you do not get anything at all so you would be more likely to want to get something rather than nothing.

        • +2

Thanks man. Definitely a bit of bad luck that you had no other drops. But $100 is still pretty decent and it would be hard to organise any trades involving cash legitimately.

    • +2

first piece is nearly worthless. There are 3 of them and only 1 person wants it and without them you get nothing. Expecting a 50/100 is optimistic when really you should be happy to get a shirt rather than being left bag holding.

      • if i may suggest smtg to ozb, can they please consider to award the piece to person with multipls (1/1).
giving the (2/2) benefits of doubt, they might not notice the trade request or bag holding, the other way is to award the next best person..
just a suggestion.. happy to hear thoughts/ feedbacks :)

  • +4

First year I got something from the hunt, $20 gift card. Can't complain about that! Thanks Scotty!

  • +3

First time success this year with an ozbargain tee. Thanks Scotty for putting this on again this year! :)

  • +1

Looking at the marketplace trading it looks like the only uncompleted 2 part is Xbox series S it this going to be reverse repeat of last year where those with part 1/2 refuse to trade with @lucydeals for $50 gift card so he can complete the set and not loss another Xbox.

Also congrats to @SleepyBargainHunter for getting the rx 6700xt I was thinking at same time when I saw part 2 on market to trade my 3 items $120 gift cards and t-shirt to get part 1 and 2 but could not be bothered with trading this treasure hunt and I do not need a new graphics card unless it is better than one I have.

    • I have got 1/2 xbox but got no offer for it. I am wanting to offer additional cash for 2/2 xbox but not accepted yet. Dnt want it to go for any loss.

    • +1

I actually have both pieces for the xbox but put it up for trade as I'm open for swapping for a graphics card

      • Okay just assumed as you were not offering for trade the part 1/2 piece you only had the 2 piece where if you had both pieces and you want to swap with someones else who has both pieces of graphics card there is some small complications in swapping process. Where you would I think as trades are 1 to 1 both agree to trade the 1/2 for the other 1/2 and then swap your 2/2 pieces.

It appears looking at the graphics cards with only 2 1/2 pieces for trade on marketplace and saw before that some had at one stage 3 1/2 pieces that the people who have the 2 piece for graphics card have both pieces now for all of them and maybe some uncompleted treasures that 2 were being given away so if you want to swap it is easier to do it with person who know you have both pieces.

  • I have Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (1/2) and no other item so trading for prezee gift card 😁

  • +3

Hmm. I am assuming there won't be any more trades. I've just checked the winners and all part 2's are matched with part 1 (despite some are still "on the market")

For all the winners — fill in the form, and I'll start buying / sending out gift cards next week.

    • Form is gonna show up after 12 right? Can't see it at the moment

  • Due to @lucydeals having both pieces of Xbox Series S I think it almost looks like every 2 part treasure is completed unless there are some people who gotten the 2/2 piece and are not active ie for those that have 2x treasures that have two 2/2 parts Airpods Pro or Switch which unfortunately makes anyone who has a treasure that is a 1/2 pieces worthless for trading.

The graphic cards appear to be completed as I noticed 1/2 disappear pieces disappear from 3 to 2 from the marketplace and 2/2 go up for trade and are not longer there so assuming they trading for the 1/2, $100 gift cards or other high value 1 piece prizes. It could be assumed there are no more treasures to complete and only swapping between completed treasures between those who have completed them.

Edit Scotty just confirmed my analysis.

  • +2

    Didn't get any :(

    • +2

It mostly about getting lucky and sometimes skill I managed to get 2 treasures $20 gift card and T-Shirt on web browser on a mobile phone which is a lot harder than desktop with larger screen and easier access to shortcuts and opening more windows at the same time improving your chances.

I also got lucky and used skill/knowledge to get the $100 gift card though my typing on google was very slow at the time and I think I got lucky that Ozbargain had issues loading which might have slowed down other people who where trying to search on Ozbargain and my lucky google search got the correct page faster.

  • +1

looking for :Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 (2/2)
    :_)

  • +1

Form just says its been saved?

    • +2

Yes it saves your detail. The gift cards will be dispatched next week.

  • I spend a lot of time on ozb and I didn't see a single thing. Did I miss some crucial requirement other than being an active daily user?

    • They were only active briefly at set times and then people quickly hunted them down. You had about a 1-2% chance of getting the treasure hunt popup on the page if you loaded it while they were active, and then had to scroll down to find it within 20 seconds.

    • Yeah same, never ever have seen anything pop up in the hunts!

  • Do we have to fill out the form for a gift card?
Email is already linked to our account.

    • +1

If it's not filled out, I will be using your registered email address — so no, it's not necessary. However some people might want the gift card to be posted to a different address (same addy they used prezzee previously for example). So I will wait until Tuesday to post the gift cards so people will get a chance to fill them in.

      • Oh, do we need an account with prezzee? I've never used prezzee before.

  • All the prizes except for T-shirts should have been dispatched. Check your email for Prezzee gift cards. I know some even already have your prizes delivered.

As of T-shirts, I'll work with neil to get them sorted out in the next few days.

    • Got the gift card! Thanks for all your hard work :)

    • Thanks! Got the gift card. Would you be able to provide the tracking number or receipt for the graphics card I got?

      • +1

Yup. Ordered from PCCG & they got dispatched this arvo. I'll send you a PM later tonight.

        • Thanks so much

        • Hey Scotty, would I be able to grab the tracking number for my win? Thanks!

          • @lucydeals: Yours was bought from Amazon, and unfortunately from my non-Prime account (as they have quantity limit for some items). It has not yet been shipped. I'll PM you when it's available.

    • Thank you Scotty, already got prizes delivered from Amazon, super fast!

  • people out here with graphics cards and im just waiting for my shirt to wear to flex at the gym

  • Thank you for T-shirt (arrived today) and Prezzee gift card

  • Thanks for the Tshirt! Next year we need tracky pants! That will make my families day :) They are so excited when I wear my hoodie and (now) t-shirt.

    • I received my Prezzee gift card. Thanks.

I am patiently waiting on T-Shirt?
Any ETA or way to track delivery?

      • T-Shirt Arrived Today : )
