Seems like a great idea. Monitor lights are annoying to put webcams on, but are very good for reducing eye strain.

The reality is that its probably going to be very poor as a webcam…

  • I picked up the non webcam one a few weeks ago. Just keep in mind that one doesn’t work for a curved monitor (s3422dwg).

    • can you elaborate more please? just ordered one for the same monitor, any possible fix?

      • I had two issues. 1. The top of the monitor is too wide for the light bar to clamp onto and 2. If I try and move it to a thinner place then the ends of the light bar hit the screen because of the curve of the screen. I didn’t attempt to fix and just ended up giving to my partner who has a flat screen.

    • It works on my 49" Samsung curve, and actually works rather well

      • Do you use that for writing/reading physical books, or for litting up the monitor?

I'm thinking of buying one for the kids when they are doing homeworks.

        Thanks

        • They are intended to light up your desk / keyboard area and are supposed to direct the light so it doesnt reflect off your screen. If there is any problem with these I reckon the reflections will be it. Just bought 1 webcam and 2 of the normal version so we will see!

Wonder if anyone has mounted them under the monitor to get around the curved dramas?

@Trayhole: I originally bought the lights these for my 3d Print farm came across the webcam and purchased it to see what the camera quality is like which is apparently looks really good from what team mates have told me

@Trayhole: I just collected it from Kmart. Not easy to get it mounted on my Dell Ultrasharp flat screen. It will work best on a screen with a large rim (1cm) and a flat backplane. On mine, it covers a bit of the display area, and easily jumps off

    • @qkee, out of the topic question. Do you use s3422dwg for productivity/WFH task or pure gaming? Would like to know how it is in overall WFH/Gaming. Trying to decide whether I should go for s3422dwg or Samsung G52 32".

      Thank you

      • I use it for 100% wfh/productivity. In hindsight I should have got the newer dell with inbuilt kvm as I had to get extra stuff to switch between my home pc and work laptop. Definitely prefer the 34 to a 32 for my work (involves looking at multiple documents side by side).

        • s3422dwg does come with a Type B USB port which can connect to a laptop/pc & then the monitor can use as a USB hub to connect keyboard/mouse. Isn't it?

          • @netbirds82: Yes - but I want a switch, not just a hub.

        • Just setup my u38xx with KVM and USBC.
          Enjoying the minimal setup now

    • For the non webcam version, can you swivel/twist adjust the light or is it just fixed and mounted on to the monitor

      • It's fixed.

Webcam is pretty decent actually - happy with the purchase

  • Any ideas how it fits on the curved Mi Monitor 34"

  • Thanks, just grabbed one. Looking forward to the webcam as I haven't had one, even after starting to work from home since covid

  • Thanks. Grabbed one. Surprisingly the webcam quality isn't too bad. Better than my Dell XPS laptop lol.

I was surprised with the quality too. Pretty good for $19

      • Hi, Can you find where is the 6. Activity light at? I just bought this but can not find where is the Activity light. Ta.

        • Im not sure what you mean by activity light but I think there's only two buttons to control the light next to the camera.

Left: to change the tone/colour of the light

          Right: on/off

          • @HairyChickens: Thank you. I am guessing the 6. Activity light is turned on when the webcam (Not the light) is used, like other webcams got an indication light when it is used.

I could not see any Activity light in the light bar. :(

  • Can anyone tell where is the 6. Activity light at? I just bought this but can not find where is the Activity light. Ta.

    • In the manual its the LED's in the light bar. I've noticed turning them on takes a couple of presses of the Light on button

      • Thank you. I am guessing the 6. Activity light is turned on when the webcam (Not the light) is used, like other webcams got an indication light when it is used.

I could not see any Activity light in the light bar. :(

After using this for a couple of days what ive noticed:

    • The Light on button can be finicky and takes a couple presses to turn on
    • Doesn't turn on when i turn the monitor on
    • As others have said, the webcam is actually decent quality. Nothing like the webcam that this replaced (RX100 using the sony webcam app), but does alright in low light
    • Mic sound comes across as muffled
    • Build quality is nice
    • Just noticed you can micro adjust the light colour by long pressing the colour mode light. You can also micro adjust the light output long pressing the Light on button.
