      Yup, avoid.

      • Yeah I just realised the old pair I have that haven't missed a beat have been rebranded to Red Plus.
Anyone have experience with SMR vs CMR?

        • Generally SMR consider inferior to CMR…
and usually best to avoid it..

However I got an seagate hdd (SMR) that is installed in my PC
and mainly to store any archive stuff on it.

Haven't notice much of a difference in my day to day usage.

        • what is shit is WD reds are now using SMR tech

    • +1

Yes only WD Red Plus are now CMR. I go for the Seagate Ironwolf for this reason in my NAS.

this is shit that they are now using WD red label for SMR drives
WD reds used to be considered one of the best for performance drives

Now need to get WD RED plus etc..

They should have just label it WD green or some other colour.

Guess they are marketing it this way to fool people to thinking WD red is like the old WD Red (CMR)

  • Smr But they are still promoting this as suitable for nas… hmmm

    • +1

      Ntfs Nas :)

  • Technically still suitable for NAS, just not in raid5 etc
But yes skip for plus drives

Reviews sound horrific but I wonder if is partly people plugging into the wrong ports on their mobo if they have m2 installed or other devices. Packaging pictures though…hot damn

  • Why would you risk buying a cheap HDD and getting it sent all the way from the US to here…

  • I would suggest avoiding, I ordered two and they came from the US in a plastic satchel and no padding. Fair to say that they were gone and beyond use and returned to amazon.

Have they fixed the problem where these drives die real quick unless run in a certain RAID setting? have 2 dead bought through Amazon last year and because they came from America it was money wasted! NO WARRANTY!

  • Is this good for storage? How is NAS diff compare to other normal HDD?
