Can't Get 4K Quality on Disney+ with New Monitor

Hi,
I recently purchased a Dell G3223Q but I am having trouble getting 4K streaming quality on streaming apps, specifically Netflix and Disney Plus (on both Windows apps and on Chrome). Is there a setting that I need to change?

When I go to 'App Settings - Data Usage' on Disney Plus, it shows 'Automatic - Stream in the highest quality up to HD (4.0GB/hr), while my TV shows 'up to 4K UHD', and the picture definitely looks like 1080p, not 4k. This happens on Netflix as well. I thought getting a 4K stream was as easy as plugging in a 4K display…

Thanks!

Sounds like a connection issue. It's not getting the consistent bandwidth it needs to autoswitch to 4K streaming.

    Try Edge browser for Netflix.

Disney Plus DRM means PC cannot do 4k playback in either app or browser afaik.

Similar issues with compatibility for Netflix, maybe Edge and app are the only compatible ways and you may need an extension - note all connected monitors may need to be HDCP2.2 compliant as well.

Correct and it's worse than OP thinks as IIRC they actually only stream at 720p for PC users. Just another example of anti piracy measures not actually stopping piracy and at the same time inconveniencing legit paying users.

      • I believe this is true. It's a common complaint with Disney streaming on PC based on my research (similar Reddit threads to the above). It sucks.

      • Agree!!
Disney will often detect the wrong HDCP and scale back to lower quality, most decent TV's will autoscale and most people won't notice it. But a PC monitor just takes the raw feed, with no up-scaling, it's really bad. Nvidia shield does great upscaling, so is ideal for people using a monitor.

I don't think you can get 4k on Windows.

    who cares about Disney?

    • Walt does

Walt died about 50 years ago, so he probably doesn't care all that much…

    • Lo… it's all the kids watch, they don't like the modern Woke content on Netflix. Disney has the older titles that they seem to enjoy more.
I should add they don't like MOST of the modern Disney content either.

  • Do you have the 4k package for netflix? isnt that the top tier?

  • Not supported. Get a 4k streaming device.

Roku 4k (~112 delivered), has 4 dedicated shortcut buttons with Labels, eg: for Netflix and Disney.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Roku-Streaming-Device-Vision-Contr…

Telstra TV 2\3 supports 4k, only mentioned this one as they often sell cheap. If your a Telstra customer could even be free or cheap depending on your tier.
The small thick one is the Gen1 (doesn't support 4K), Gen 2 and 3 are the wide flat ones with dedicated Netflix buttons.

You should note that neither platform has a lot of 4K content, and unlike a TV your monitor won't upscale so 720p and 1080p content won't look the best.
On something as small as a 32" won't be the end of the world, but if you like your 4k content, then consider something like a Nvidia shield with upscaling (similar tech, even better than a high-end Sony TV)
