Pre-Purchase Inspection BMW Specialist in Sydney

Following on from my other post, can anyone recommend a pre-purchase inspection specialising in BMWs, in Sydney ?

Already know about MTA, Stateroads, etc. Looking for someone who is familiar with brand- and model-specific issues.

Thanks.

    European? ✅

    Here we go…

    • The closest thing to Seppuku you can get!

    • depending on the model, european might not be a problem.

i think it's mainly just the type of person who buys a secondhand sports car that is the problem, regardless of brand. i've recently been looking for a 1uz toyota soarer / lexus sc400 but it's impossible to find one that looks to be in good condition, at least in my state. they all look like they need a fair bit of work, i've been looking on youtube as well and they seem to be notorious for having problems despite being toyotas and having a well regarded engine, it seems people just see a cheap second hand sports car, buy it and neglect it / thrash the hell out of it, then sell it on.

These guys based in Hornsby are great; they specialise in BMW and Mini. I trust them with my M140i.

They will do inspections - no idea what they charge for that service though.

Regardless of who you go with for a pre-purchase inspection, make sure you have a clear understanding of what they're inspecting. You'll find that their 100/200/500 point checklists, look at things like seatbelts, indicator lights, etc. Which you could probably check your self.

There's not much anyone check when it comes to the engine or transmission. Most inspections wont do things like hooking up a OBD to read the last fault codes.

There's some models of cars that are notorious for issues. A pre-purchase inspection will never that you that either.

  • Link the car you're interested in so everyone can go take a leisurely test drive and report back.
    Bargain 👍

Belmore Motor Works is another option. I'm pretty sure that these guys can check the service history and things done (if the servicing was done on BMW network or a service provider that can upload and download the service log book through the keyfob).

Advan Performance seems popular with the people who mod and/or participate in the BMW User Forum https://www.bimmerpost.com/.

Having said that do your research with BMW user forums to know know issues which commonly occur e.g. 6 cylinder issues in the 35i cars but different with tthe 40i cars, or common things to be aware if you by a E60 era M5

The Bimmerpost has Australian sub-forum so that maybe a better place to get some tips.

    Good luck
