Meh… more of the same… waiting for real bargains

    • What do you mean? The US RRP is $699 (A$1000). How low do you expect it to go?

      • +5

Below RRP when RTX 4000s releases. Wishful thinking, I know

        • +2

New cards will be better than this series, then waiting until next year for those to be released.
          You're more patient than I.

      • +8

        OzRRP

      • its already been much lower?

      • Will pull the trigger once RXT 3080 drops below $1000

  • +4

Galax needs to hire better designers for their coolers.

    • they already have. a guy that design that cooler 50 years ago

      • +3

does he wear a blue hoodie?

    • +1

The "boost fan" looks just silly and from the reviews, isn't usually necessary and clashes with RAM if in the top PCIE slot. Fortunately it can just be left off, but still.

It's a shame because the cooler on the GALAX 1070 had an all-metal shroud and felt extremely premium.

    • +1

I've had Galax cards they are fine, it could be worse like say a Gigabyte card.

  • hodl til 3080 < 1000

    • When that happens it's not going to be even worth it IMO.

Can anyone recommend a good GPU for crypto mining?

Haven't crunched the numbers yet, but wouldn't mind a recommendation.

(PS, the guy in the hoodie looks like the stereotype of a guy that knows a thing or two about crypto mining)

    • +1

At the moment NONE. Crypto miners are flooding market with used cards.

      • -1

aren't these 'bargain' gpus on ozbargain also used cards as well? or are they stock hoarded by gpu resellers ?

      • You mean, they are buying used cards? How come?

Why did I get a downvote lol? (just a question out of curiosity)

        • good gpu is a cheap one, $2.29/day atm for 100mh which is this card minus 5.5kw of power which is $1.3 @23c/kwh so this makes $1/day profit

when i started it made $15/day so not really worth it even if u got free power

        • You are late to the party, very late, mining is currently a dying business and that is why GPUs are being sold cheaply and in mass. It has been fairly been fairly big news for a month or so.

      EVGA KINGPIN HYBRID 3090

      • Why do you say that koalafield?

        • +1

Runs super cool compared to most 3090s and it can be extremely overclocked if that's your thing. Performance wise most would agree that it's on par to the 3090 Ti. Same TDP (450W) too. Couple of guys on LTT said the stock 3090 Kingpin is 40.3 Tflops, while the stock 3090 Ti is only 39 Tflops. So, yes the stock 3090 Kingpin is faster than a 3090 Ti.
'Bone stock right out of the box the 3090 Kingpin is faster than a 3090 Ti FE.'

    • +2

any 3080 is good for mining, especially from 18 months ago….

  • +1

Basically MSRP. This card would normally be going on sale for around $800-900 by this point in the lifecycle of crypto wasn't a thing.

  • Ive waited this long I think I can wait for the bargains to be had soon now that the GPU market is crashing :D

    • It's just a transitory period before the new models and the new mining begins in earnest. It shall rise like a Phoenix!

  • I'm not shelling out money for an LHR card at any price. This is a real Neville Chamberlain card.

    • Okay you’ll need to explain that reference to me.
