More expensive then Bob-jane even with the discount lol

    • For all tyres or are you referring to specific ones?

  • Is there some sort of comparison site? I just want 4 x 235/45 R17 fitted with a wheel alignment for the least amount of money. I feel like tyre deals are deliberately complicated.

Selling the car soon so quality not an issue.

    • Laufenn SFit EQ+ in 235 45 17 are usually between $90 and $120 a corner.

And after putting them through some hell on the track, are probably more than 75% as good as RE003's they replaced, at half the cost.

I would not advise their 'eco' line though; their 'sport' tyres are solid enough not to wear quickly. The passenger/eco range compromises grip more than Id like.

The sfit eq though? I have a stack of them in the garage, because ordering in bulk brings it down even further.

      • Thank you for this. I have the same size tyres looking for replacement, and I've never heard of these before.

        • You've more likely heard of their other name, 'Hankook'; it's just all about where they imported from :)

  • I assume Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres aren't on sale?

    • Why not plump for the pilot sport 5?

      • +1

Pilot Sport 5 replaces the Pilot Sport 4 (no "S")
The Pilot Sport 4S is a step above in performance again. Not a direct comparison.

        • Good to know. I'm hunting for tyres for my golf and short-listed the PS4 & PS5. I am now aware there's an s version. Like the iphones!

            @lordra: I just got 235/40R18 PS4 for $691 which is a bargain.
PS5 not available til sometime mid- July and Jax site wont let you order them if they are not in stock.

            • @nafe: My 225/45R17 costs M PS5@ $255 each. Shame they don't have the B3GOF. However, it's doing some weird math for me.
              4 x 255 =$1, 020. They apply a $238 discount. Total cost is then $728 ($182)each. I can't understand how they arrive at that number.

The bridgestones Pot Adrenalin RE003 is $652 for all 4($163 each).

I have till November to get new tyres. Do I go for the RE003 or the Michelin Pilot Sport 5?

              • +1

@lordra: (1020 - 100)*0.85 = 782 they take away the $100 off deal from Michelin first then apply 15% off.

Just got a set of PS5 with 245 40 R18 as well, seems like a good deal.

                • @clock0407: Ah, yes, thanks, that does add up right. I made a typo up top, it is $782 (not $728).

Wondering if I should HODL for the PS5 at a later point?
                  WWYD?
                  MPS5 for $782
                  Or BST RE003 for $652.
                  Or Laufenn S Fit AS-01 LH02 for $480?

                  • @lordra: It depend on your use case, toke me 4-5 years to run down a set of tyres with 40-50 kms, which is about right since tyre do have shell life, the rubber turn bad after years so I would not HODL any, but if you drive a lot, maybe?

            • @nafe: That's odd. It let's me order the MPS5! Which is cheaper than the MPS4 strangely.

            • @nafe: We should be able to price match this at Bob Jane's right???

              • @lordra: You can try but I would just go with Jax TBH. I wasn't about to try an stuff around finding a store with stock etc and then seeing if they will price match etc etc. Especially at these prices.

I should have clarified, no PS5 in the size I needed until mid July. Other sizes are available.

@nafe: Cheers mate. I tried my luck with BJs, they agreed, plus its 10% of the difference, so another 10% off (not really,. but kinda). So coming out ahead! BJs has it in my size as well, so just paid the deposit today for the MPS5! Really chuffed with this combo!

@lordra: Nice one. No one had stock for me in PS5 so I just went with the PS4 - its enough for my driving even though the latest and greatest would be nice to have lol :D

                    • @nafe: That's the thing with tyres, we are always forced to make compromises one way or another.

Glad you got the PS4, those were more expensive than the PS5 for me, strangely.

I've asked if they can hold off until the first week of August which they said yes to. So I'll get another month out of my tyres before the change over.
