Samsung HW-Q700B/XY Q-Series Soundbar $595 + Delivery ($0 to Select Cities) @ Appliance Central

140

Seems like a pretty good deal on a more budget oriented soundbar compared to premium models.

Looking at a bunch of other retailers - next cheapest price is $653, while the average price I found from 21 other stores was $889.

We ended up landing on this soundbar after the following decisions:

  • We didn't want to spend anything near $1k (bye bye arc, q950a, q990b etc)
  • We didn't want rear speakers
  • We didn't mind the q800b from Samsung but why the heck isn't it black?? Seriously samsung, why is it coloured "titan"?
  • We didn't really care about any surround functionality - 3.1 is more than enough for our needs. Just wanted that center channel for dialog + left/right.

So while everyone's requirements and compromises will be different, this might be a good choice for someone else too :)

Free shipping to Melbourne (at least to my suburb)!

  • Just a note with this, it has very underwhelming bass and the Samsung smartthings app support is terrible and glitchy at best. I have the HW-Q70T which is similar in alot of ways however isn't as good as this sound stage wise… Just wish they made the bass stronger in this also. I paid just under $500 for mine a year and a half ago and wish I had bought something else so YMMV

    • +1

I guess it all boils down to expectations. For us- we have no sub currently - just two small bookshelf speakers and a crappy Yamaha centre that was left over from the cheapest 2008 5.1 Yamaha surround bundle.

While I’m sure the premium models will sound better, I’m not up for spending another $400+

      But that’s just me :)

      • Yea I could defo see it being amazing from that point of view. My friend has the comparatively priced LG and it slaughters mine. I came from a pretty decent 5.1 setup but had a Yamaha 2.1 soundbar from 2014 in my other lounge also which for the $300 was amazing considering it had no centre channel… But defo noticeable hence the upgrade.

I'll be selling this soon most likely and biting the bullet to spend a bit more I think

  • I’ve had this exact model since March and mine is pretty bassy. No complaints with the audio quality. I only really used the app during initial setup but yeah it was pretty buggy. Hopefully better now.

    • Besides initial setup- what else would you use the Samsung app for?

      • Updating the firmware

    • Bass is regarded as worse than what I have in general and one of the main common review points are disappointing bass. Some of us have ears that are more sensitive to certain frequency, wish I had yours as my life would be cheaper 😂

Also you use the app for any firmware updates or connection setups app when they lose connection as this does happen. Changing any settings beyond the basics you need the app. My remote is also now dead, it died was going to return it… Then my dog chewed it so 😂

      • Oh which reviews? There’s a bunch out there for last years q700a model but not much for this years q700b.

From what I can work out from looking through all the specs - last years q700a is quite different to the next model up whereas this years q700b is quite similar to the q800b.

I guess I’ll find out when it arrives :)

If I hate it, I’ll designate it to our second living room haha

        • Sub is the same unit between the700a and 700b.

Haha yea i bought my q70t for the second living room but the more I use it the more I want to replace it. Hopefully it works for you though!

  • Just bought this model. Better reviews than Q800 online.
