Return Part of Order for Refund - Still Eligible for ShopBack?

HI All

Just wondering if anyone has had a time where their purchase via shopback was confirmed (within the day for me) but i now plan on returning a item, reducing the total. Will this get fixed up in the backend and still be eligible for the cashback, just a smaller amount then initially tracked? Dont want the product (doesnt fit) but also dont want to risk the total sales cashback!

Thanks

hmm, is it though? Kinda reads more like "you wont get your cashback on items that are cancelled or returned…". Doesnt explicitly say "return 1 of the 10 items and the whole thing is off", does it?

Yes it is a clear no.

Cashback will be invalidated for any returns, exchanges, and cancellations of orders. Cashback is only awarded for successful and completed purchases.

Cashback sites work based on basic referral link tracking. They don't have data on which t-shirt you returned and which jeans you kept 30 days later.

Edit: Unless maybe the stores update the cashback manually themselves like below? Contact SB support and find out.

  • I've returned part of an Iconic order and the price was adjusted for me, which was unexpected. My return was because the item arrived with stains, not sure if your reason matters here. Also not sure if this is just an Iconic thing or if I got lucky or if SB does this for every store? Might be worth contacting the rep to be sure

    • Pretty sure it's on the businesses to review the cashback and approve or not, SB doesn't get to decide. It sounds like you got lucky because they could have just denied it instead, they had the grounds to.

I've returned part of an order and the whole thing was wiped, but I was expecting that to happen.

Hey @JuryWheel, this is solely dependent on the merchant/store in question.

The reason is that each merchant we work with is on an Affiliate Network.
These Affiliate Networks will have their own tracking capabilities, which also track returns/refunds/exchanges.
Each Network's capabilities will vary from Network to Network (E.g. Commission Factory, Commission Junction, Rakuten, Impact Radius, etc), some networks will be able to track your order by item level and some will track by order level.

If a Network tracks at item level, you will receive an individual line of Cashback for each product you purchased within that order.
That also means that it will update each line of Cashback for any returns/refunds/exchanges.

If a Network tracks at order level, you will receive a single line of Cashback for your order - regardless of how many individual items there are.
This means that the Network cannot distinguish what item is returned/refunded/exchanged, and will likely result in our commission payment being cancelled on that order.
Hence why we cancel the Cashback payment if we get notified of our commission payment being cancelled.

If you are able to exchange the product in-store, it should not impact order tracking.
Refunds/exchanges are different gravy & are almost guaranteed to cancel the entire Cashback value.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks, it's an Adidas order that can only be returned online. Not optimistic

  • you wish

  • SB recently modified eBay system (So each transaction gets separate cashback for each order)

Yes eBay now doesn't combine multiple items from different sellers in a SINGLE order number.

So this kinda makes it similar to AMAZON

But however, this also kinda CREATES AN ISSUE WHERE a CASHBACK BONUS CHALLENGE requires a $X spent in a single transaction.
With eBay now, its really so unclear, (From customer's end he paid for everything in a single transaction at eBay, But however from SB's end it gets separated into different cashback transactions.)

@GYB wanna clear this up too, for any future bonus challenges

eBay purchases (in same transaction, but from different sellers), for a SB challenge requiring $X spent in a single transaction ??

  • Adore Beauty itemises your cashback per item, which is fantastic! (Except I never need to return anything to them 😁). It’s great that ebay look to be doing this now, also.
I wish all the merchants did this, especially clothing retailers, like ASOS πŸ‘

  • Hey @JuryWheel did you end up returning the item and get your cashback?

    • nope, didnt return due to not wanting to get the cashback knocked back - sold on marketplace instead
